And every one, without exception, had endorsed Hillary.&#160; Yesterday, at long last, a Senator finally stepped forward and endorsed Bernie.&#160; I\u2019m proud to have done volunteer work for his campaign in 2008, when Jeff ousted goose-stepping Gordon Smith and became the junior Senator from Oregon.<\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Merkley\" style=\"border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; float: left; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Merkley\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Merkley.jpg\" width=\"320\" align=\"left\" height=\"406\" \/>[O]regon Democrat Jeff Merkley endorsed Bernie Sanders on Wednesday for the party\u2019s presidential nomination, becoming the first member of the Senate to announce support for the fellow U.S. senator from Vermont.<\/p>\n<p>In a New York Times column announcing his endorsement, Merkley said <strong>he supports Sanders for his work battling economic inequality, opposing trade deals and fighting for the middle class<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is time to recommit ourselves to that vision of a country that measures our nation\u2019s success not at the boardroom table, but at kitchen tables across America,\u201d Merkley wrote. \u201cBernie Sanders stands for that America, and so I stand with Bernie Sanders for president.\u201d\u2026 [<em>emphasis added<\/em>]<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Inserted from &lt;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rawstory.com\/2016\/04\/jeff-merkley-becomes-first-us-senator-to-endorse-bernie-sanders-for-president\/\" target=\"_blank\">Raw Story<\/a>&gt;<\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\"><a href=\"http:\/\/on.msnbc.com\/1XwKiIZ\" target=\"_blank\">Rachel Maddow<\/a> interviewed Jeff about his endorsement.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" height=\"500\" src=\"http:\/\/player.theplatform.com\/p\/7wvmTC\/MSNBCEmbeddedOffSite?guid=n_maddow_cendorsement_160413\" width=\"635\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">I was particularly pleased with the way Jeff had nothing but good things to say about Hillary, but said even more good things about Bernie.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">With almost all of his colleagues in Hillary\u2019s camp, it would have been so much easier for Jeff to follow the pack, or make no endorsement at all.&#160;
