The bill costs about $200 billion, but is partially <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationaljournal.com\/congressdaily\/cop_20100524_4663.php\" target=\"_blank\">offset by a few tax changes<\/a>, including the closing of a loophole that allow corporations to claim U.S. tax credits on profits earned overseas. These unjustified tax breaks have been on the radar of Congress\u2019 tax writers for the last few years, but so far they\u2019ve remained in the tax code due to pressure from big corporations. This time, even though the bill also extends some of their favored provisions, like the Research and Development tax credit, the Big Business lobby is fighting to preserve its <a href=\"http:\/\/wonkroom.thinkprogress.org\/2010\/05\/25\/corporate-unemploy-loophole\/\" target=\"_blank\">ability to exploit tax loopholes<\/a>, at the expense of the benefits extension:<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; font-family: calibri; font-size: 11pt\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">International Business Machines Corp. and trade groups for major U.S. companies are pressing Congress to defeat a jobs bill containing billions of dollars in taxes on their global operations<\/span>\u2026In a letter to lawmakers yesterday, Armonk, New York-based IBM, the world\u2019s biggest computer-services provider, told lawmakers <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">it \u201cstrongly opposes\u201d the legislation and would rather do without the research credit than face new taxes on overseas profits.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; font-family: calibri; font-size: 11pt\">The Chamber of Commerce has, of course, weighed in on behalf of the corporations, claiming that the legislation is a \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/thehill.com\/blogs\/on-the-money\/domestic-taxes\/99497-chamber-opposes-extender-bill\" target=\"_blank\">job killer<\/a>.\u201d\u2026 [<em>emphasis original<\/em>]<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Inserted from &lt;<a href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/2010\/05\/25\/corporate-ui-loophole\/\" target=\"_blank\">Think Progress<\/a>&gt;<\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">If this provision were to kill any jobs at all, it seems to me that those jobs would be overseas, since corporations have been relocating whole divisions overseas to take advantage of this loophole.&#160; The bottom line is maximizing profit.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><strong><font color=\"#0000ff\">Corporations are NOT people!&#160; Money is NOT speech.<\/font><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Corporations have no conscience and no soul, as this article clearly demonstrates.
