In e-mails obtained by the local CBS affiliate, Pearce said he intends to push for an \u201canchor baby\u201d bill that would essentially overturn the 14th amendment by no longer granting citizenship to the children of undocumented immigrants born on U.S. soil. \u201cAnchor babies\u201d is a <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.chicagotribune.com\/news_columnists_ezorn\/2006\/08\/sinking_anchor_.html\" target=\"_blank\">derogatory and \u201cpolitically charged\u201d term<\/a> used to refer to the U.S. citizen children of undocumented parents. KPHO obtained a troubling <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kpho.com\/download\/2010\/0520\/23624269.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">email<\/a> [pdf] from one of Pierce\u2019s constituents who is encouraging him to pursue the \u201canchor baby\u201d legislation. KPHO reports:<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; font-family: calibri; font-size: 11pt\">One of the e-mails written by someone else but forwarded by Pearce reads: <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">\u201cIf we are going to have an effect on the anchor baby racket, we need to target the mother. Call it sexist, but that\u2019s the way nature made it. Men don\u2019t drop anchor babies, illegal alien mothers do.\u201d<\/span> [&#8230;]<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; font-family: calibri; font-size: 11pt\">Pearce said his new idea is not only legal but constitutional. \u201cIt\u2019s common sense,\u201d Pearce said. \u201cAgain \u2013 you can\u2019t break into someone\u2019s country and then expect to be rewarded for that. You can\u2019t do it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; font-family: calibri; font-size: 11pt\">When Pearce was shown the e-mail referring to \u201canchor babies\u201d that he forwarded, he said he didn\u2019t find anything wrong with the language.<span style=\"font-weight: bold\"> \u201cIt\u2019s somebody\u2019s opinion\u2026What they\u2019re trying to say is it\u2019s wrong. And I agree with them. It\u2019s wrong,\u201d said Pearce.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; font-family: calibri; font-size: 11pt\">Despite Pierce\u2019s confidence that his new proposal is constitutional, the 14th Amendment clearly stipulates that \u201c[a]ll persons born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.\u201d &#8230; [<em>emphasis original<\/em>]<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; font-family: calibri; font-size: 11pt\">&#160;<\/p>\n<p>Inserted from &lt;<a href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/2010\/05\/21\/arizona-anchor-babies\/\" target=\"_blank\">Think Progress<\/a>&gt;<\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">Pearce has strong ties to the nativist movement, whose primary raison d&#8217;\u00eatre is the preservation of the \u2018racially superior\u2019 white majority.&#160; What we have here is just one more example of GOP racism.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">Now most of the Arizona Teabaggers supporting this bill are also Birthers, which begs the following question.&#160; Why does propagating <strong>the lie<\/strong> that Obama does not have a legal birth certificate matter to them, when <strong>the fact<\/strong> that these young citizens have birth certificates does not?<\/font><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Just when I thought that Arizona Republicans could not do any more to demonstrate their bigotry, here they come again!
