{"id":15010,"date":"2015-04-06T09:48:31","date_gmt":"2015-04-06T16:48:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/?p=15010"},"modified":"2015-04-06T09:48:31","modified_gmt":"2015-04-06T16:48:31","slug":"open-thread462015","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/2015\/04\/06\/open-thread462015\/","title":{"rendered":"Open Thread&ndash;4\/6\/2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">It\u2019s such a slow day for news, that even Daily Kos is recommending only hits from the past, and because I\u2019m still short of 100%, I\u2019m making this today\u2019s only article.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\"><strong>Jig Zone Puzzle<\/strong>:<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">Today\u2019s took me 3:42 (average 6:40).&#160; To do it, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jigzone.com\/puzzles\/2015-04-06-CE2504A965A9\" target=\"_blank\">click here<\/a>.&#160; How dod you do?<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\"><strong>Short Takes<\/strong>:<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">From <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/humor\/borowitz-report\/poll-americans-starting-to-worry-about-climate-change-now-that-it-affects-their-lawns\" target=\"_blank\">The New Yorker<\/a>: <\/font>A new poll shows that Americans who were unconcerned about climate change as it wreaked havoc around the world are beginning to worry, now that global warming is affecting the appearance of their lawns.<\/p>\n<p>According to the poll, conducted by the University of Minnesota\u2019s Opinion Research Institute, rising sea levels, the destruction of habitats, and catastrophic weather conditions, such as hurricanes and tsunamis, have not served as the wake-up call to Americans that their lawns\u2019 unsightly barrenness has.<\/p>\n<p>In interviews across the state of California, residents expressed anger and outrage that climate change had been allowed to worsen to the point that it has now severely limited their choice of ground cover, shrubs, and other decorative plantings.<\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">Sadly, Andy seems to have captured the soul of the American voter.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">From <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2015\/04\/06\/us\/in-chicagos-reshaped-politics-unions-are-divided-over-mayoral-race.html\" target=\"_blank\">NY Times<\/a>: <\/font>An exuberant crowd that included public-school teachers, union bus drivers and nursing home workers packed into New Mount Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church on this city\u2019s West Side on Saturday afternoon as Karen Lewis, the president of the Chicago Teachers Union, issued an urgent plea.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am asking you, I am begging you, and \u2014 in my teacher voice \u2014 I am telling you, go vote,\u201d Ms. Lewis, who wore a \u201cChuy\u201d button on each lapel, called out, as a cheer rose through the high-ceilinged church. \u201cGo vote!\u201d she called out again. \u201cGo vote!\u201dAt the heart of the campaign that has threatened to topple Mayor Rahm Emanuel are labor unions: Amalgamated Transit Union locals, the Service Employees International Union\u2019s Illinois State Council and, perhaps above all, the Chicago Teachers Union. Jesus G. Garcia, the candidate known as Chuy, built his campaign on the backing of teachers, has received his strongest financial support from unions and was talked into running by Ms. Lewis herself. And the crowd inside this echoing church followed orders, scores of people streaming out together and marching down Madison Street to a polling location with less than an hour remaining for early voting in advance of Tuesday\u2019s election.<\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">Go Chuy! Rahmbo acts more like a Republican than a Democrat!<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">From <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alternet.org\/georgia-teacher-tells-students-their-parents-arent-christians-if-they-voted-obama\" target=\"_blank\">Alternet<\/a>: <\/font>A Georgia teacher \u2014 whose husband sits on the school board \u2014 is under fire for telling her students that President Barack Obama isn\u2019t a Christian, and if their parents voted for him they are not Christians either, reports <a href=\"http:\/\/www.41nbc.com\/story\/d\/story\/parent-complains-after-dublin-teacher-shares-polit\/19116\/O6_3VZMfxE6Cl0HZ9cZDqw\" target=\"_blank\">WMGT.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">What a Republican Supply-side pseudo-Christian statement that is!
