He faces a possible sentence of 15 years in prison for each of the eight bribery counts.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Menendez, a Democrat, angrily denied wrongdoing and vowed to fight the charges. \u201cThis is not how my career is going to end,\u201d he said at a news conference in Newark, where supporters cheered him. \u201cToday contradicts my public service career and my entire life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The federal investigation into Mr. Menendez, 61, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2015\/03\/07\/us\/menendez-expected-to-face-federal-corruption-charges.html\" target=\"_blank\">was well known<\/a>, and charges had been expected. But the accusations in the 68-page indictment are much broader and more severe than had been publicly known. The senator was also charged with conspiracy and making false statements.<\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">For the good of the party and the nation, Menendez should step down immediately.
