{"id":14524,"date":"2015-01-16T00:48:47","date_gmt":"2015-01-16T08:48:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/?p=14524"},"modified":"2015-01-16T00:48:47","modified_gmt":"2015-01-16T08:48:47","slug":"republican-latino-love","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/2015\/01\/16\/republican-latino-love\/","title":{"rendered":"Republican Latino Love"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">Republicans claim over and over again that they are not racist.&#160; They keep saying that they love black folks and Latino folks, and that they will do right by them.&#160; They say that especially Latinos should be voting for them, not for Democrats.&#160; I say their claims should be evaluated not by what they say, but by what they do.&#160; So look what they are doing.<\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"0116LatinoLove\" style=\"border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; display: block; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; margin-right: auto\" border=\"0\" alt=\"0116LatinoLove\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/0116LatinoLove.jpg\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As expected, the GOP-controlled House of Representatives today <a href=\"http:\/\/talkingpointsmemo.com\/dc\/house-gop-shutdown-war-immigration\" target=\"_blank\">passed a package of measures that would roll back President Obama\u2019s executive actions<\/a> shielding hundreds of thousands of DREAMers, and millions of parents of children who are U.S. citizens or legal residents, from deportation\u2026<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;Today\u2019s action goes further than merely defunding Obama\u2019s recent executive actions deferring the deportation of immigrants brought here as children (the 2012 DACA) and of millions of parents of children who are U.S. citizens or legal residents (the more recent DAPA).<\/p>\n<p>It also <a href=\"http:\/\/amendments-rules.house.gov\/amendments\/ader211215180937937.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">defunds the implementation<\/a> of the 2011 Morton memos. The key Morton memo <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/blogs\/plum-line\/wp\/2015\/01\/09\/republicans-set-to-ramp-up-call-for-more-deportations\/\" target=\"_blank\">doesn\u2019t formally defer deportation or extend work permits<\/a>, which Republicans have denounced as crossing from standard prosecutorial discretion into rewriting the law. Rather, it merely lays out general enforcement guidelines that direct agents and lawyers to prioritize the deportation of serious felons, repeat offenders, and serious threats to national security over that of longtime residents, minors, the elderly, or the unhealthy.
