Michigan&#8217;s GOP House Speaker Jase Bolger pushed through a &quot;Religious Freedom Restoration Act,&quot; which is now headed to the state Senate for consideration. <\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a similar bill to the one we saw in Arizona earlier this year. Michigan Republicans apparently felt a real sense of urgency after they <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mlive.com\/lansing-news\/index.ssf\/2014\/12\/michigan_house_approves_religi.html\" target=\"_blank\">quashed an effort<\/a> the day before to help LGBT individuals hold down jobs and be productive members of society.<\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">No matter how caring and moderate Republicans try to sound for the mainstream, focus on what they keep doing.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">From <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2014\/12\/07\/us\/politics\/energy-firms-in-secretive-alliance-with-attorneys-general.html\" target=\"_blank\">NY Times<\/a>: <\/font>The letter to the Environmental Protection Agency from Attorney General Scott Pruitt of Oklahoma carried a blunt accusation: Federal regulators were grossly overestimating the amount of air pollution caused by energy companies drilling new natural gas wells in his state.<\/p>\n<p>But Mr. Pruitt left out one critical point. The three-page letter was written by lawyers for Devon Energy, one of Oklahoma\u2019s biggest oil and gas companies, and was delivered to him by Devon\u2019s chief of lobbying.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOutstanding!\u201d William F. Whitsitt, who at the time directed government relations at the company, said in a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2014\/12\/07\/us\/politics\/1-devon-energy-scripted-letters.html\" target=\"_blank\">note to Mr. Pruitt\u2019s office<\/a>. The attorney general\u2019s staff had taken Devon\u2019s draft, copied it onto state government stationery with only a few word changes, and sent it to Washington with the attorney general\u2019s signature. \u201cThe timing of the letter is great, given our meeting this Friday with both E.P.A. and the White House.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Whitsitt then added, \u201cPlease pass along Devon\u2019s thanks to Attorney General Pruitt.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">Click through for more examples about how Republican State Attorneys General are conspiring with polluters against the interest of the people they are supposed to represent.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">From <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/humor\/borowitz-report\/republicans-question-obamas-motives-fixing-economy\" target=\"_blank\">The New Yorker<\/a>: <\/font>Two days after the release of an unusually strong jobs report, prominent Republicans appeared on the Sunday morning talk shows to question President Obama\u2019s \u201csuspicious motives\u201d for repairing the economy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen there have been so many months of job growth, it does make you wonder what he\u2019s up to,\u201d said Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas). \u201cYou add in the rising stock market and falling gas prices, and the whole thing doesn\u2019t pass the smell test.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Appearing on Fox News, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell accused the President of \u201ccynically fixing the economy to distract the American people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis country faces serious problems, and I don\u2019t think they can be swept under the rug by creating prosperity,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>But the sternest rebuke came from House Speaker John Boehner, who warned, \u201cIf President Obama doesn\u2019t stop fixing the economy, Congress has ways to make him stop.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">Andy may be on to something.
