{"id":13984,"date":"2014-10-27T00:01:05","date_gmt":"2014-10-27T07:01:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/?p=13984"},"modified":"2014-10-27T00:01:05","modified_gmt":"2014-10-27T07:01:05","slug":"the-truth-from-mitch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/2014\/10\/27\/the-truth-from-mitch\/","title":{"rendered":"The Truth from Mitch?!!?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">Seldom in the history of US politics has there been a more dishonest politician that the US Senate Minority Leader, Mitch McConnell, aka Bought Bitch Mitch.&#160; Imagine, if you will, my shock when I learned that, for reasons I\u2019m completely unable to fathom, he actually told the truth about an important issue.<\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"font-family: ; margin: 0in; line-height: normal\"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"1027BBM\" style=\"border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; display: block; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; margin-right: auto\" border=\"0\" alt=\"1027BBM\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/1027BBM.jpg\" width=\"615\" height=\"357\" \/><\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-family: ; margin: 0in; line-height: normal\"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-family: ; margin: 0in; line-height: normal\"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-family: ; margin: 0in; line-height: normal\"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\">With less than two weeks to go in the Kentucky Senate race, minority leader Mitch McConnell <strong>made the unusual choice to bring up his past support for privatizing Social Security<\/strong>. In a speech before the Louisville Rotary Club, McConnell recalled how hard he worked to get then-President George W. Bush\u2019s plan through Congress in 2005. Ace Kentucky reporter Joe Sonka <a href=\"http:\/\/insiderlouisville.com\/metro\/mcconnell-touts-2005-push-private-social-security-accounts-refuses-say-hed-senate-majority-leader\/\" target=\"_blank\">flagged<\/a><font color=\"#0066cc\"><\/font> the remarks:<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-family: ; margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; line-height: normal\"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\">\u201cAfter Bush was re-elected in 2004 he wanted us to try to fix Social Security,\u201d said McConnell. \u201cI spent a year trying to get any Democrat in the Senate\u2014even those most reasonable Democrat of all, Joe Lieberman\u2014to help us.\u201d<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-family: ; margin: 0in; line-height: normal\"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\">The Bush plan, unveiled in his 2005 State of the Union speech, would have allowed workers under 55 to divert half of their payroll taxes away from Social Security and into a private retirement account. <strong>This would have created an even larger shortfall in the Social Security Trust Fund and further hobbled the insurance program\u2014something many people suspected was a feature, not a bug, for Bush and the conservative think tanks pushing his plan<\/strong>.<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-family: ; margin: 0in; line-height: normal\"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\">There was immense backlash to Bush\u2019s proposal, and Republicans never brought it up to a vote.
