{"id":13452,"date":"2014-08-14T00:24:41","date_gmt":"2014-08-14T07:24:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/?p=13452"},"modified":"2014-08-14T00:24:41","modified_gmt":"2014-08-14T07:24:41","slug":"police-racism-in-ferguson","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/2014\/08\/14\/police-racism-in-ferguson\/","title":{"rendered":"Police Racism in Ferguson"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">Because there are so many honest, dedicated police officers in this nation, I hesitate to level a charge so severe as racism at any group of policemen, but in the case of the police in Ferguson, MO and St Louis County, I have to make an exception.&#160; The more I learn about them, the more disguised I become.&#160; Local demonstrations against them continue.<\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"0814guns_on_people\" style=\"border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; display: block; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; margin-right: auto\" border=\"0\" alt=\"0814guns_on_people\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/0814guns_on_people.jpg\" width=\"650\" height=\"351\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The protesters, almost all of them black, raised their fists and chanted, \u201cWe shall not be moved!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Down the hill, advancing against them late Monday night, were police officers in gas masks and riot gear, most of them white.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t shoot!\u201d some of the demonstrators yelled, inching closer to the barely visible police line. One man drifted several dozen feet closer with his arms up, lifting his shirt and spinning around as if to say: Look, no gun.<\/p>\n<p>Then an older woman in a dust mask to shield her a bit from the swirling tear gas spotted him and shouted, \u201cGet your ass back here!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The two sides were locked in confrontation in this working-class suburb of St. Louis, where the police shooting of an unarmed young black man triggered a night of looting Sunday \u2014 and demands for justice from a predominantly black population\u2026<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Inserted from &lt;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/nation\/nationnow\/la-na-missouri-st-louis-police-shooting-teen-20140811-story.html\" target=\"_blank\">LA Times<\/a>&gt;<\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">It\u2019s hard to imagine that the scene above is the police response to unarmed demonstrators, upset over the apparent police murder of an unarmed black teen with his hands in the air.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">Rachel Maddow provided the best coverage of this tragedy I have found.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" height=\"360\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Of7FWFkhidM?rel=0\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"640\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">I don\u2019t have much else to day, except that this level of Republican hatred and racism must be stopped.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\"><strong>Update<\/strong>:<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" height=\"360\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/qdyXHyUPRnw?rel=0\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"640\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">Footage tonight from Jake Larson in Ferguson.&#160; He appears to be just a resident, whose other video\u2019s haven\u2019t been politically oriented.
