The apparent rush to put it down suggests that, well, we\u2019re human.<\/p>\n<p>So let me satisfy this demand with my own \u201cIdiot\u2019s Guide to Inequality.\u201d Here are five points:<\/p>\n<p><em>First, economic inequality has worsened significantly<\/em> in the United States and some other countries. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vanityfair.com\/society\/features\/2011\/05\/top-one-percent-201105\" target=\"_blank\">The richest 1 percent in the United States now own more wealth<\/a> than the bottom 90 percent. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oxfam.org\/sites\/www.oxfam.org\/files\/bp-working-for-few-political-capture-economic-inequality-200114-summ-en.pdf\">Oxfam estimates<\/a> that the richest 85 people in the world own half of all wealth.<\/p>\n<p>The situation might be tolerable if a rising tide were lifting all boats. But it\u2019s lifting mostly the yachts. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/blogs\/wonkblog\/post\/in-2010-93-percent-of-income-gains-went-to-the-top-1-percent\/2011\/08\/25\/gIQA0qxhsR_blog.html\" target=\"_blank\">In 2010<\/a>, 93 percent of the additional income created in America went to the top 1 percent.<\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">This is worth the read.
