{"id":12971,"date":"2014-06-09T00:04:27","date_gmt":"2014-06-09T07:04:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/?p=12971"},"modified":"2014-06-09T00:04:27","modified_gmt":"2014-06-09T07:04:27","slug":"last-weeks-republican-lunacies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/2014\/06\/09\/last-weeks-republican-lunacies\/","title":{"rendered":"Last Week&#8217;s Republican Lunacies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">Every week, Republicans join a competition to see who can say the most outlandish things, and in the process, every week they push the the envelope on just how crazy InsaniTEA can become.&#160; I trust that you will believe it when I tell you that last week was no exception.<\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"0609lunacy\" style=\"border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; display: block; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; margin-right: auto\" border=\"0\" alt=\"0609lunacy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/0609lunacy.jpg\" width=\"720\" height=\"474\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u2026<strong>Virtually every Republican after new EPA rules came out: I\u2019m not a scientist but&#8230; here\u2019s a bunch of idiotic stuff I learned in grade school.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The \u201cI\u2019m not a scientist, but\u201d statement of faux humility was the most popular refrain this week in Republican circles, Facebook pages, Twitter feeds and press conferences. It was almost always followed by either second-grade level science like, \u201cbut carbon dioxide is good for plants, why do we have to limit it?\u201d Or some other nonsensical argument against the new, much needed regulations.<\/p>\n<p>There is, of course, only one retort to, \u201cI\u2019m not a scientist, but \u2026.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s, \u201cThat\u2019s right, so shut up and listen to what actual scientists have been saying about this for, like, ever.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>We know, we know. We live in dreamland.<\/p>\n<p>The stupid reactions to Obama\u2019s announced coal restrictions ran the gamut.<\/p>\n<p>You can read about them <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alternet.org\/environment\/7-most-ridiculous-ways-climate-deniers-are-losing-their-minds-after-new-epa-rules\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.&#160; And <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alternet.org\/environment\/8-most-absurd-reactions-obamass-new-climate-change-rules\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>. But if we had to pick a favorite, just on the grounds of moronic immaturity, the prize has to go to this pathetic imbecile:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThanks to the Obama administration\u2019s EPA and the new regulations released today, America is poised to become the \u2018no pee\u2019 section of the global swimming pool,\u201d said Marita Noon, executive director of some bogus right-wing group called Citizens Alliance for Responsible Energy. \u201cJust because we declare that we won\u2019t pee in the pool, won\u2019t stop the others.\u2026 We\u2019ll be stuck in our little no-pee section with a crippled economy while the rest of the world will be frolicking in unfettered growth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Well now, that is a terrific way of deciding on matters of vital national (and international) interest. C\u2019mon everybody, let\u2019s keep peeing in the pool, until, well, the pool is entirely urine, and no longer any water whatsoever.
