{"id":12464,"date":"2014-03-31T00:08:36","date_gmt":"2014-03-31T07:08:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/?p=12464"},"modified":"2014-03-31T00:08:36","modified_gmt":"2014-03-31T07:08:36","slug":"your-vote-wont-count-if-you-cant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/2014\/03\/31\/your-vote-wont-count-if-you-cant\/","title":{"rendered":"Your Vote Won&#8217;t Count, if You Can&#8217;t!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">Looking ahead to 2014, I often think back to 2010, when so many on the left stayed home.&#160; I feel pain at the notion that so many have put so little value on their right to vote.&#160; You may think you\u2019re vote doesn\u2019t matter, but if so many hadn\u2019t thought so, those votes would have mattered in 2010.&#160; This nation could have been spared the suffering that Republican obstruction has brought us.&#160; Before you get used to the idea of not voting, remember this.&#160; Your vote won\u2019t count, if you can\u2019t.<\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"GOPvoting\" style=\"float: left; display: inline\" alt=\"GOPvoting\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/GOPvoting.png\" width=\"360\" align=\"left\" height=\"360\" \/>Pivotal swing states under Republican control are embracing <strong>significant new electoral restrictions on registering and voting that go beyond the voter identification requirements<\/strong> that have caused fierce partisan brawls. <\/p>\n<p>The bills, laws and administrative rules \u2014 some of them tried before \u2014 shake up fundamental components of state election systems, including the days and times polls are open and the locations where people vote.<\/p>\n<p>Republicans in Ohio and Wisconsin this winter pushed through measures limiting the time polls are open, in particular cutting into weekend voting favored by low-income voters and blacks, who sometimes caravan from churches to polls on the Sunday before election. <\/p>\n<p>Democrats in North Carolina are scrambling to fight back against the nation\u2019s most restrictive voting laws, passed by Republicans there last year.
