{"id":12305,"date":"2014-03-05T00:14:30","date_gmt":"2014-03-05T08:14:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/?p=12305"},"modified":"2014-03-05T00:14:30","modified_gmt":"2014-03-05T08:14:30","slug":"republicans-still-love-their-pootie","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/2014\/03\/05\/republicans-still-love-their-pootie\/","title":{"rendered":"Republicans Still Love Their Pootie!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">Until now, I have remained silent on Vladimir Putin\u2019s (R-RU) invasion of the Ukraine.&#160; I like to get a sense of what\u2019s going on before jumping in half-cocked.&#160; In my opinion, the invasion is a crime, but there is little the US can actually do about it, other than propose sanctions and organize international opposition.&#160; This directly parallels our position when Putin invaded Georgia.&#160; There is one critical difference.&#160; When Putin invaded Georgia, Democrats blamed Putin.&#160; But now that Putin ids invading the Ukraine, Republicans are blaming Obama and praising Putin.&#160; Here\u2019s an example.<\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"0305Putin\" style=\"float: left; display: inline\" alt=\"0305Putin\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/0305Putin.jpg\" width=\"360\" align=\"left\" height=\"486\" \/>While most of Vladimir <a href=\"http:\/\/www.salon.com\/2014\/03\/04\/rudy_giuliani_unlike_obama_putin_is_%e2%80%9cwhat_you_call_a_leader%e2%80%9d\/www.salon.com\/2014\/03\/03\/when_the_right_loved_vladimir_putin\/\" target=\"_blank\">Putin\u2019s right-wing fans<\/a> have come from the socially conservative wing of the GOP, it would be wrong to say the Russian autocrat doesn\u2019t have some cross-over appeal for today\u2019s Republicans. Case in point: Rudy Giuliani, former mayor of New York City and well-known moderate on some social issues, counts himself as a fan \u2014 or at the very least sounds like one.<\/p>\n<p>Appearing on Neil Cavuto\u2019s Fox News show, <a href=\"http:\/\/mediamatters.org\/video\/2014\/03\/03\/on-fox-giuliani-praises-putin-hes-what-you-call\/198316\" target=\"_blank\">Giuliani shared his thoughts<\/a> on Russia\u2019s invasion and de facto annexation of the Ukrainian province. Rather than blasting Putin for ignoring international law, the sovereignty of an independent neighboring country, and the rights of Ukrainians to decide their country\u2019s future for themselves, Giuliani praised Putin for being what he called \u201ca leader.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After chuckling dismissively at the idea of merely leveling sanctions against Russia in response to its transgression, Giuliani laid it out as simply as he could: \u201cPutin decides what he wants to do, and he does it in half a day, right?
