{"id":11283,"date":"2013-10-03T00:37:17","date_gmt":"2013-10-03T07:37:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/?p=11283"},"modified":"2013-10-03T00:37:17","modified_gmt":"2013-10-03T07:37:17","slug":"the-gop-divide-and-conquer-scam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/2013\/10\/03\/the-gop-divide-and-conquer-scam\/","title":{"rendered":"The GOP Divide and Conquer Scam"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">Yesterday Republicans put three items on the House floor that might have created exceptions in the Republican Shutdown for Washington DC, the VA, and the National Parks Service.&#160; These are areas over which Republicans have received a lot of complaint for their hateful blackmail, so they hoped that they could take some heat off themselves by creating the appearance of wanting to pass these exceptions.&#160; At the same time they are blaming Democrats for blocking them, but that\u2019s a lie too.<\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Stock Photo\" style=\"border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; float: left; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Stock Photo\" align=\"left\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/3Ace.jpg\" width=\"284\" height=\"423\" \/>The latest proposal from House Republicans to reopen only certain parts of government failed Tuesday night as Democrats insisted they would not pick winners and losers among federal services, and the White House threatened a veto.<\/p>\n<p>The latest Republican plan was to keep open national parks, veterans services and the District of Columbia, an approach modeled on recommendations by Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), who has led the GOP\u2019s strategy in the standoff that resulted in the first shutdown of the federal government in 17 years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf the Democrats are really concerned about funding the VA, let\u2019s fund it,\u201d said Rep. Mick Mulvaney (R-S.C.), as House Republicans emerged from an afternoon strategy session.<\/p>\n<p>But three bills failed in the face of Democratic opposition. <strong>House Republicans used a procedure that required a two-thirds vote<\/strong>, hoping that would pressure Democrats to vote for them, knowing the bills would fail without their support.
