But it&#39;s a manufactured crisis just like we&#39;ve seen in every other district where the charter schools\/privatization agenda is in full swing. Don&#39;t be fooled by this hostage-taking. This was <a href=\"http:\/\/crooksandliars.com\/susie-madrak\/philadelphia-closing-23-more-schools\" target=\"_blank\">the plan all along<\/a>.<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-family: ; margin: 0in; line-height: normal\"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\">While Tom Corbett&#39;s <a href=\"http:\/\/crooksandliars.com\/karoli\/aspira-charter-schools-spend-big-bucks-brea\" target=\"_blank\">$400 million prison<\/a> seems to be proceeding right on schedule, Philly schools are <a href=\"http:\/\/crooksandliars.com\/karoli\/teachers-union-appeals-arne-duncan-interven\" target=\"_blank\">still underfunded<\/a> and facing a deficit of at least $50 million dollars. What to do? <\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-family: ; margin: 0in; line-height: normal\"><font color=\"#0066cc\"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><a href=\"http:\/\/thenotebook.org\/blog\/136304\/countdown-day-26-hitewants-src-suspend-school-code\" target=\"_blank\">Bust teachers&#39; unions, of course<\/a><\/font><\/font><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\">. &hellip;<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-family: ; margin: 0in; line-height: normal\"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\">&#8230;That NBC article is a little bit gentle. Here&#39;s what Corbett and his lieutenants <a href=\"http:\/\/www.philly.com\/philly\/news\/politics\/20130814_New_call_for_funding_for_city_schools.html#uFhEP53mohYGvxQO.99\" target=\"_blank\">actually said<\/a>:<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-family: ; margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; line-height: normal\"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Gov. Corbett emphatically rejected on Tuesday a request to release $45 million in state funds, the latest twist in the ongoing battle to resolve the Philadelphia School District&#39;s financial crisis. <\/font><span><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><strong>Corbett&#39;s budget secretary, Charles Zogby, said the money would not be available until the teachers&#39; union signs a contract that includes substantial &quot;fiscal savings and academic reforms.&quot; <\/strong><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-family: ; margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; line-height: normal\"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\">&quot;The law is clear,&quot; Corbett reiterated during an appearance in Chester. &quot;Until that takes place, there can be no release of funds.&quot;<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-family: ; margin: 0in; line-height: normal\"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\">In other words, teachers, give everything up or the kids get shot. Nice work, there, Tom Corbett. There&#39;s a word for what you&#39;re doing. It&#39;s called bad-faith bargaining.
