{"id":10636,"date":"2013-07-15T00:27:49","date_gmt":"2013-07-15T07:27:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/?p=10636"},"modified":"2013-07-15T00:27:49","modified_gmt":"2013-07-15T07:27:49","slug":"boomer-bashing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/2013\/07\/15\/boomer-bashing\/","title":{"rendered":"Boomer Bashing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">The Republican Party loves war.&#160; I trust you are aware if their War on Blacks, War on Latinos, War on Asians, War on Gays, War on Women, War on Seniors, War on Students, War on Labor, War on Voting Rights, War on Human Rights, War on the Constitution, and War on YOU, to mention just a few.&#160; Now the have a new one to introduce.&#160; Meet the Republican War on Baby Boomers.<\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"15Boomers\" style=\"border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; float: left; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px\" border=\"0\" alt=\"15Boomers\" align=\"left\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/15Boomers.jpg\" width=\"360\" height=\"230\" \/>\u201cThe average Republican primary voter is deceased,\u201d Frank Luntz, Fox News commentator and GOP uber-pollster, said in February. <\/p>\n<p>His advice for wooing younger voters? \u201cDon\u2019t give them terminology they don\u2019t understand.\u201d It\u2019s about \u201ccommunicating a simple phrase, three words: \u2018I get it.\u2019 \u201d <\/p>\n<p>Luntz was sharing his prescription for dumbing down political rhetoric with outlier tea party candidate Allen West on a new website called&#160; Next Generation TV, but as The New York Times reported June 29, GOP stalwarts are taking his advice,&#160; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2013\/06\/30\/us\/politics\/republicans-paint-clinton-as-old-news-for-2016-presidential-election.html?pagewanted=all&amp;_r=0\">courting millennials<\/a>, the 80 million potential voters born from about 1980 to 2000, mostly by <strong>cracking wise about Democrats of a certain age<\/strong>. Electing Hillary Clinton would be like going back in time, Stuart Stevens, Mitt Romney\u2019s campaign strategist, told reporters: \u201cShe\u2019s been around since the \u201970s.\u201d<strong> Kentucky Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell compared the 2016 Democratic field to \u201ca rerun of \u2018The Golden Girls.\u2019 \u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The nasty edge of Republican rhetoric isn\u2019t new, but Luntz, a master of the zeitgeist, is exploiting fears that run deeper than election strategy. Ironically, thrice-married serial cheater Newt Gingrich introduced the backlash against baby boomers, rallying conservatives against counterculture permissiveness in the 1990s. But <strong>boomer bashing has taken on a new character. With the future looking bleaker all the time, Americans are externalizing their fears.
