{"id":10550,"date":"2013-07-01T01:33:41","date_gmt":"2013-07-01T08:33:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/?p=10550"},"modified":"2013-07-01T01:33:41","modified_gmt":"2013-07-01T08:33:41","slug":"immigration-insanitea","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/2013\/07\/01\/immigration-insanitea\/","title":{"rendered":"Immigration InsaniTEA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">I suppose you don\u2019t need me to tell you that Republicans are trying to prevent the passage of a real immigration reform package including a path to citizenship.&#160; As time passes, their reasons become more and more ludicrous, but today I heard one that sets a new standard.&#160; Republicans are doing undocumented workers a favor by denying them a path to citizenship.<\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: left; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px\" title=\"1gowdy\" border=\"0\" alt=\"1gowdy\" align=\"left\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/1gowdy.jpg\" width=\"360\" height=\"194\" \/>A Republican Congressman argued that the immigration measures making their way through the House of Representatives won\u2019t include a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants <strong>because many don\u2019t want to achieve legal status<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe 11 million is not a homogeneous group,\u201d Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC), chairman of the House Judiciary Committee\u2019s Immigration Subcommittee, said during an appearance on Fox News Sunday. \u201cAll of the 11 million don\u2019t want citizenship. It would be curious to force it on those who don\u2019t want it,\u201d he added, noting that <strong>millions won\u2019t be able to pass background checks<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p>Gowdy also insisted that the House will not take up the Senate measure&#8230; [<em>emphasis added<\/em>]<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Inserted from &lt;<a href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/immigration\/2013\/06\/30\/2236201\/congressman-claims-immigration-bill-will-force-immigrants-to-become-citizens\/\" target=\"_blank\">Think progress<\/a>&gt;<\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">Now, the ones who cannot pass background checks would be deported under any plan, so Republicans do them no favor at all to deny a path to citizenship to the rest.&#160; For those who do not wish to become US citizens, there is a guest worker program.&#160; So why do Republicans really want to deny citizenship to these workers?&#160; Of course, one reason is racism.
