{"id":10117,"date":"2013-03-11T03:17:07","date_gmt":"2013-03-11T10:17:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/?p=10117"},"modified":"2013-03-11T03:17:07","modified_gmt":"2013-03-11T10:17:07","slug":"remember-the-dixie-chicks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/2013\/03\/11\/remember-the-dixie-chicks\/","title":{"rendered":"Remember the Dixie Chicks?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">It was March 2003.&#160; I had been following the run-up to the Iraq War, debunking the lies, and being called a traitor on a regular basis for posting articles that said the the Bush Regime was not giving us an accurate representation of the facts.&#160; To be frank, I was feeling pretty much alone in the world, because folks like me, who actually took the trouble to learn the truth, were few and far between.&#160; It was a breath of fresh air to learn that I had support from the last place I would have expected it.<\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: inline; float: left\" title=\"11Dixie_Chicks\" alt=\"11Dixie_Chicks\" align=\"left\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/11Dixie_Chicks.jpg\" width=\"360\" height=\"480\" \/>It was ten years ago tonight that the Dixie Chicks, extremely popular then and far from controversial, caused a massive stir when singer Natalie Maines declared on stage in London: \u201cJust so you know, we\u2019re on the good side with y\u2019all. We do not want this war, this violence, and we\u2019re ashamed that the president of the United States is from Texas.\u201d&#160; It was a little more than a week before their fellow Texan <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/Z6fRNh\" target=\"_blank\">launched a war based on lies<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Of course, hatred was quickly spewed in the Chicks\u2019 direction by media types, political figures and country music yahoos\u2014who never then or now get so excited when right-wing entertainers and media celebs make threats against a Democratic president<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Boycotts were immediately announced.
