Last night, two progressive giants, Elizabeth Warren and Rachel Maddow got together on Rachel’s Show.  In my opinion, what they had to say was too important not to share, so here it is in three segments.

Warren: Trump poised to deliver knock-out blow to middle class

Senator Elizabeth Warren talks with Rachel Maddow about following the history of the erosion of the middle class in the United States and the fight to protect the working class from Donald Trump’s agenda.

Liz clearly demonstrates how the transition from democratic republic to Republican Reich has screwed and is screwing the middle class. I look forward to an Audible version of Warren’s book.

Warren: Turn heat up on Trump Russia case

Senator Elizabeth Warren talks with Rachel Maddow about the need for a special prosecutor and an independent commission investigating possible Trump campaign’s cooperation.

Liz is right that Russian interference with the election should not be partisan. However, it is, because Republicans prefer treason to loss of power. Republicans must go. All of them must go!

Warren: ‘Democracy can’t be a spectator sport’

Senator Elizabeth Warren talks with Rachel Maddow about why Americans can’t treat democracy as a ‘once-every-four-years horse race’ and what Democrats have to do to retake power in government.

The fight to take America back must begin yesterday and have more substance than mere opposition to Republicans.

Today is the best I’ve felt in weeks, and I napped this morning, so I’m publishing and sharing links, expending the minimum effort to do so.  I doubt that I can tomorrow.

Short Takes:

From The Oregonian: Portland and Multnomah County’s top elected leaders committed Monday to transitioning to 100 percent renewable energy sources by 2050.

Mayor Ted Wheeler and County Chair Deborah Kafoury made the announcement at the June Key Delta Community Center in North Portland, a one-time gas station that’s been converted into a green building.

Wheeler, just a few months into his mayoral term, says he has no illusions the energy goal will come easily. "They will be difficult to achieve," he said of the push to meet all electricity needs from renewable sources by 2035, and to transition away from all remaining dirty energy sources, primarily fossil fuels in the transportation sector, by 2050.

"We’re actually going to have to make deliberate steps, and deliberate investments, and deliberate policy changes in order for this to become a reality," he said, "and I’m committed to that."

Good news is just so very rare. Oregon leads the way. RESIST!!

From The Rachel Maddow Show: British intel agency reported Trump campaign Russia ties: Report

Rachel Maddow reports on the latest developments in the investigation into connections between the Donald Trump campaign and Russia, including a report by The Guardian that British intelligence agency GCHQ first raised concerns as far back as late 2015.

Bernie was wrong.  I few days ago, he said that Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is a very nice guy.  I wrote that I disagreed and that there is nothing nice about McConnell.  The proof is in, and I was right,  Bought Bitch Mitch just told Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Coretta Scott King to STFU!!

Warren-McConnellSenate Republicans voted on Tuesday night to silence Massachusetts senator Elizabeth Warren, who had taken to the floor of the Senate to give a speech opposing the confirmation of Alabama senator Jeff Sessions as attorney general. Warren began reading a letter written in 1986 by the late Coretta Scott King, activist and wife of civil-rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., which was originally written in opposition to Sessions’s 1986 nomination to serve as a federal judge. (King’s letter was written to be sent to the Senate, though Senator Strom Thurmond, who was then the chair of the judiciary committee, blocked it from being entered into the congressional record.) In her letter, King wrote, “Mr. Sessions has used the awesome powers of his office in a shabby attempt to intimidate and frighten elderly black voters. For this reprehensible conduct, he should not be rewarded with a federal judgeship.” (Sessions’s nomination for the judicial post was ultimately withdrawn amid allegations of past racist comments, some of which he has denied.)

But Republicans immediately took offense to Warren reading King’s words on the Senate floor. Senator Steve Daines of Montana warned Warren that she was violating Senate rules against impugning another senator. She continued reading King’s letter anyway. “Mrs. King’s views and words ring true today,” Warren said. “The integrity of our Justice Department depends on an attorney general who will fight for the rights of all people. An honest evaluation of Jeff Sessions’ record shows that he is not that person.” Civil-rights advocates and lawmakers have expressed concern over Sessions’s record on race and immigration, as well as statements he’s made in the past. Sessions has been criticized for calling the N.A.A.C.P. “communist-inspired” and “un-American,” and for allegedly calling a black assistant U.S. attorney “boy.”

Warren’s speech came to a halt when Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell invoked rule XIX, which keeps senators from “directly or indirectly, by any form of words impute to another senator or to other senators any conduct or motive unworthy or unbecoming a senator.” Warren, McConnell said, “has impugned the motives and conduct of our colleague from Alabama.”…

From <Vanity Fair>

Liz explained it to an MSNBC reporter that was not altogether sympathetic.

What the reporter did not get is this.  The purpose of rule XIX is to prevent debate between Senators from descending into flame wars of personal attack, not discussion of issues.  It should never have been used to evade the reading of testimony.  Sessions (R-KKK) was in the discussion as a nominee being evaluated, not as a Senator in debate.

Furthermore, Bought Mitch Mitch never invoked Rule XIV against the multiple attacks on Senators by Cruz (R-Uranus).  I guess IOKIYAR.

Although I caught a nap yesterday afternoon, I slept poorly last night and feel tired today.  Unfortunately I have a community meeting here in the building during my normal nap time this afternoon.  The bad weather is forecast to end at noon.

From YouTube (TYT Channel): Elizabeth Warren Paving Way To Impeach Trump

I fully agree that this law "has to happen", but before the Republican Criminal Congress would do it, Satan’s demon team will win the Stanley Cup in a home game. The Constitution is about to become more violated than a $2.00 hooker.

From National Popular Vote: Please Sign the White House Petition Asking President Obama to Support a National Popular Vote for President Before He Leaves Office.

I predict that, as soon as the results are certified on Friday, the uselessness of the Electoral College will have been proven.

From The New Yorker: After having difficulty persuading prominent entertainers to participate at the event, the Trump transition team announced on Sunday that the Russian President Vladimir Putin would sing at Donald J. Trump’s Inauguration next month.

In a brief statement from the Kremlin, Putin said, “I will be most delighted to perform for my comrade.”

The choice of Putin raised eyebrows in Washington, since the Russian, while famous for invading neighboring countries and imprisoning political opponents, is not particularly well known as a singer.

The Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway pushed back against such criticism during an appearance on CNN. “If we limited ourselves to people who had talent and experience, that would disqualify half of our Cabinet,” she said.

Andy, Will Putin (R-RU) be accompanied by the KKKhorus Girls?

From YouTube (GQ Channel): Why Donald Trump is Not Fit to Be President | The Resistance with Keith Olbermann

While I see a Pence Reich as little improvement, if any, over Fuhrer Drumphenfarten, Keith does have a point about the Fuhrer’s mental instability. No sane person proclaims Republican positions and policies openly.

From The New Yorker: Just days after picking Betsy DeVos to run the Department of Education, President-elect Donald Trump has tapped another wealthy outsider by naming Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzmán to head the Drug Enforcement Administration.

In an official statement, Trump said that El Chapo’s “tremendous success in the private sector” showed that he has what it takes to “shake things up” at the D.E.A.

Dang Andy!! Do you think the Fuehrer is making a deal for a piece of the action from the Mexican drug cartel?

I must say that I enjoyed meditation yesterday evening.  Today I made my grocery order.  My guys at OSP have a new staff advisor, and in spite of sending three emails, starting three weeks ago, I stall have not received confirmation that they are expecting me at the prison on Thursday, so I need to chase her down today (accomplished).  Tomorrow I have grocery delivery and Wendy, so my week is getting very busy very fast.

Short Takes:

From CBS: Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has never had much to say about Donald Trump. But lately, he has fallen completely silent.

On the few occasions when the Republican leader has appeared publicly in his home state of Kentucky this month, he’s either avoided answering reporters’ questions, or explicitly refused to address the topic he acknowledged was on everyone’s mind: His party’s presidential nominee.

At a local Chamber of Commerce event in Danville, McConnell twice instructed the crowd not to ask him about the presidential race “even though that’s what I know you all wanted me to talk about.”

At an earlier event in Pikeville, McConnell refused to answer a reporter’s question about Trump not paying any taxes.

If he had the slightest bit of integrity, he would disavow Trump and withdraw his endorsement, but he has none. That identifies him as a Republican and proves that he is still Bought Bitch Mitch.

From TPM: Outgoing Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) said he is confident that he has laid the groundwork for Democrats to nuke the filibuster for Supreme Court nominees if they win back the Senate in November.

Envisioning Hillary Clinton in the White House and Democrats controlling the Senate, Reid warned that if a Senate Republican minority block her Supreme Court nominee, he is confident the party won’t hesitate to change the filibuster rules again.

How long have I been pleading for Democrats to do this?

From NY Times: Senator Elizabeth Warren delivered a blistering rebuke of Donald J. Trump on Monday, warning him that “nasty women vote” and imploring a crowd to cast ballots for Hillary Clinton.

“I don’t know about you,” Mrs. Clinton said as she flashed a thankful smile and seized the microphone from Ms. Warren at a rally in Manchester, N.H. “But I could listen to Elizabeth Warren go on all day.”

She might have to.

With polls and early voting data signaling that Mrs. Clinton is likely to prevail against Mr. Trump in two weeks, liberal Democrats are already looking past Election Day — and relying on Ms. Warren to become the thorn in chief in Mrs. Clinton’s side, scrutinizing her appointments and agenda.

Please click through for much more. In my unmitigated support of Hillary Clinton over Rump Dump Trump, I have not become naive. Managing her will be far more difficult than electing her, and I expect Elisabeth Warren to be key in that capacity.
