Ryan: Let Them Eat Koch

More and more Americans are learning what it is to be hungry, and our Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), aka food stamps, provides a lifeline that does not meet the need, but keeps it from being catastrophic for millions of Americans.  Now, every penny government spends on a hungry child is a penny Republicans can’t give to a millionaire, billionaire or corporate criminal.  The Republican solution, proposed by Paul Ryan, is to convert SNAP to a block grant program.  This would give the money to to governors, so Republicans like Brewer, Kasich, Perry, Scott, Snyder and Walker can deprive hungry people and divert the funds to their cronies. Ryan’s excuse is the Republican lie that SNAP is bogged down with massive fraud.  What of the poor? Ryan, from Republican Versailles, would let the eat Koch.

RyanLiesIn addition to releasing a radical budget that dismantled Medicare while likely raising taxes on the middle class, House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI) has suggested a radical reworking of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, or food stamps). Under his plan, which would simply block grant SNAP to state governments, “SNAP would largely lose the ability to respond to rising need, forcing states during economic downturns to cut benefits or create waiting lists for needy families.”

In order to build support for his dismantling of the food safety net, Ryan has been spreading falsehoods regarding SNAP. Case in point, during a question and answer session hosted by the Spolight on Poverty and Opportunity, Ryan claimed that SNAP is “rife with fraud“…

…Listen here:

But as the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities found, SNAP errors are currently at an all-time low, with errors accounting for less than three percent of the program’s cost…[emphasis added]

This is just one more proof that Republicans govern exclusively for the benefit of millionaires, billionaires and corporate criminals.

Every Republican in office is one Republican too many!

  1. Blue dogs, too! Dammit! 👿 (one too many in office)

  2. There is fraud in the program, I see it every day up close and personal in this slum called Detroit, but it in no way compares to the fraud that the right side of the aisle has American values at its core.

    • Mark, you’re right, but we who live in the inner sity slums see the worst of it. In most other places it is not as bad, explaining the 3% statistic.

  3. It does not compare to the fraud committed by the RepublicanTs and Tea-baggers in their attempts to defraud the American public with their lies.
Cut programs for the poor, disabled and children to give tax cuts for their corporate handlers is a great example. I hope their town hall meeting are full of irate voters.

  4. Well, as I keep saying, the only good Republican is a dead Republican. And Tom, please note, I am NOT advocating going out and killing them, just saying……

  5. Miserable man— yes there is individual fraud in the program– people getting what they are not entitled to get– But when looked closely at the cases , it was almost always people who had learned how to use the system-To sell food stamps– and buy laundry soap , or toilet paper ,or personal supplies , maybe gas for their vehicle , perhaps to pay for the vehicle license,- in other words to manage—-People like Ryan have no idea what it is to have to juggle- to feed their children , to ‘dumpster dive” — the many ways a poor person uses to survive , I am talking about the “working poor” the many who have jobs , sometimes 2-3 jobs- minimum wage , no benefits—
So cut the very line that keeps many people living— barely– and believe me– I am no bleeding heart–!

  6. Senator Ryan’s lies grow like Pinocchio’s nose. 😉

  7. What A DI¢K! Bite HIM!! 😈
