Warning: this video drops the F bomb frequently.  View in appropriate times and places.  A friend on Stumbleupon sent it to me.  It’s about a year old, maybe more, but I had not seen it before.  In case you have not either, I’m sharing it today, because because it is one of the best summaries of our nation’s ills I have seen and presents them with gut wrenching power and clarity.

What can I say?  I was one of those dirty f*ing hippies.  We were right!

  1. AHHHHHH, my virgin ears have never heard such filth! πŸ™„ πŸ˜‰

The dirty fucking hippies were right. I would have loved to be alive the, because I would have been right along side them. Now they have turned into the corporate and political monsters that we all know. The irony.

  2. OIL TRADERS Jump! You fuckers!!! 😈

  3. Thanks Tom. The dirty fucking hippies were right then and we’re still right now!

  4. “Now they have turned into the corporate and political monsters that we all know.”
Not entirely so, Lisa. There are still some of us who never gave up, and, continue the travail.
You are alive today, and there’s still something to standup for. One hopes you are part of it now. If you are, be assured, you are not standing alone.
    Cheers and regards,
    An aging dirty fucking hippy

  5. I’ve been on a bit of a battle at church as many will say that the entire country went downhill in 64. It makes me mad because that assumes everything was great before and ignores nuclear proliferation, segregation, McCarthyism, the Korean War.
Another verse to that same song has been to blame the hippies. Well I’ve had a theory for a number of years now since I grew up in the shadow of the hippies and thought they were the greatest. I believe that the movement hasn’t had the same strength recently is because so many that were hippies have become republican. I think they were ones who either showed up just for sex and drugs, or who war doesn’t bother so much as long as they don’t have to fight (were only there because of the draft).
This last one drives hippie hating right-wingers crazy if I say it. Maybe a real hippie can confirm it.

    • Welcome Richard. πŸ™‚

There were lots of flavors of hippie Richard. I was a political activist and I was prepared to go to prison rather that go to Vietnam or flee to Canada. Fortunately I never had to prove it. Some were fearful of the draft. Some were just in it for the sex, drugs and music. The ones who were authentic, still are on the inside, whether or not we still look the part.

  6. I have been one of those dirty fucking hippies. And yes we were right. I have been fighting the fight for several decades now. I’ll stop when I’m dead!

  7. Yes indeed — knew it then , and sure know it now!!

  8. In the days of The Great Depression, at least the Wall Street Jerks had the guts to jump out the windows of the skyscrapers. Those guys would’ve rather been dead, than to have to work for a living like the working class did. Today, after their gambling ventures fail, they come to Uncle Sam for their Bail Out Money, as in, OUR tax money, while we workers have to “share the burden” of the economy’s ills.

  9. I remember the days. Alot of the counter culture was peopled with men and women who were in it not for the dream but for the free sex( they were gluttonous) and because they didn’t want to serve in the military. I’m not surprised they grew up to be the greedy capitalists of today. They were self-centered and spoiled and selfish then and they are still the same today. But there were alot of good people who had the right idea too. It was a great time and the good ones made it great. I sure wish the best people had taken over instead of many of the worst.

  10. David , during the Great Depression , many jumped because of their shame ; these jerks today dont know the meaning of the word- The Dirty Fucking Wall Street Crooks. And their Politician Buddies

  11. say what you will…the war mongers now are the hippies from then

    • Welcome Irv. πŸ™‚

I disagree. Your statement is partially true and partially false. I was a hippie them and am certainly no war monger now. Blanket statements are rarely accurate.

  12. Crooks and warmongers were not hippies.
Those crooks & warmongers ‘posed’ as hippies, to get in on the sex, drugs & rock n’ roll.
They are the same people who ‘pose’ as your friend, to bust you for pot.
They were indeed among the hippies, but they never were hippies.
    I was there…
Those of you who try to paint the old hippies as today’s ‘evil doers’ had better think again.
We old hippies, are not behind any of the new world order plots, wars or police state mentality. Christians and Republicans can claim that credit. The dirty phuckin hippies were right about them then and they have not changed…

    • That’s exactly true! πŸ‘Ώ

    • Welcome John. πŸ™‚

Your comment is much like one of my replies, and I agree. I was there too. Lower East Side aka East Village.

What authentic hippies wanted was to make the world a better, lest materialistic place.

  13. Quit your bitchen, get elected and make changes. Sit in the dark and get high and nothing will happen. 😑 😑 😑

    • For what office are you running, Geo?

Not all people are suited for public office. I, for example, don’t have the health that it would take, among other reasons. nevertheless, I’d say that by spending hours every day researching and informing thousands of people, I’m doing my fair share.

What are you doing to make things happen?

  14. Why is everyone speaking in the past tense? Did not the sun come up this morning? What can we do today to keep the spirit alive? The Rainbow People are still gathering here, there and everywhere. People of conscience are still speaking out, acting on behalf of others, doing more…needing less.
I was a child in the sixties rather than “of the sixties”, I guess I just don’t know any better. In December, I’m going to be a first time Grandfather. Talk about a wake up call. When your children are young, you have all these worries about your family, your children. But when your little angel is about to become a Mommy, suddenly my thoughts are not only with her, but all the little ones coming into this world and their young parents. The dollar is dead, wars are crossing borders and new ones are being started. There’s a draft coming and few will have a way out of this one because the law (already written and vetted) will be voted on by the very people who dodged the last one. This should be a time to renew the spirit, not mourn it’s passing.
So I ask you…were you “there”? What did you learn? What can you teach? And when can you start?

    • Welcome Samuel. πŸ™‚

Most of the comments are present tense. We are still right.

What is your documentation for the draft?

I was there. I learned plenty. I teach every day. The proof is here. I started years ago.

      How about you?

  15. RIGHT FUCKING ON, TOMCAT!!!!!!

  16. Carry on fellow thinkers, CARRY ON! Peaceful Trails to you all. LOVE!

  17. It wasn’t just the hippies that were right. I remember being an 8 year old scheme-boy (Scottish equivalent of trailer trash) I knew it then and I’ve known it ever since. I was a Soccer Casual and wore expensive labelled clothing. I still hate Maggie Thatcher. My mum wouldn’t let me grow my hair long, even if it wasn’t too curly and turned into an very odd looking afro when allowed to grow too long, It was a good old fashioned short back and sides for me. Morman style. But I still knew they were right. War costs money. It is not possible for destruction to be profitable. The spoils of war have to be paid by someone. The military Industrial complex will make money but at the cost of the rest of us.

I could see the Insurance scam for what it was then and I was a kid with a pencil and a piece of paper. Those bastards knew it too. Still do and carry on regardless because it’s not their problem. Not yet anyway. The I’m alright Jack attitude prevailed. Maybe we’ve learned this time round. But I fear we are doomed to make the same mistakes again and again because those in power are not those who will have to suffer the consequences of the greedy few’s behaviour. πŸ™

Nice page you have here btw. Bookmarked and I think I’ll follow you on twitter.

    • Welcome Dhilzy. What the hippies were right about are the things that were easy enough to see, but most adults refused to face. Like the emperor’s new clothes, it took the wisdom of a child to recognize such truths. I think we hippies embraced our inner children.

Thank you. I’ll follow you back as soon as I get there.

  18. I was there. We were right. We’ve been right all along. But man, the 80’s began a nasty backlash that hasn’t quit. Seems like most of the ‘dirty fucking hippies’ of the 60’s and 70’s became the enemy they once fought so hard; warmongering politicians with forked tongues and fat bank accounts; doctors who refuse Medicare because they don’t like sick poor old folks who can’t pay up; outsource-happy corporate leaders whose products are garbage and whose policies deliberately stomp the rights of the working poor; society matrons who donate liberally to hoity toity cultural institutions the poor will never once visit in their lifetimes (opera, ballet, upscale museums etc.), yet who shudder and lock up their checkbooks at the thought of the homeless mentally ill or other social problems. Why did so many dirty hippies defect? Sure, it was partly lack of good birth control; people who might make different choices under different circumstances take work they hate in order to feed and house the family, and before they know it they’re caught in a trap with no easy out. But there’s more to it. Anyone else have a guess what happened to make so many fun-loving peace activists into the horrid beasts they once denounced? Yup, I was there. And I’m still here, more radical than ever.

    • Welcome MF. πŸ™‚ I think that tends to me more true of the 70’s variety that those from the 60’s. The earlier tended to be true rebels, but by the time the 70’s arrived, being a hippie was being a conformist. I trust they you mean “the end of the draft” by what else happened? I think that those who were truly authentic then, still are.
