MLKDay

It was a pleasure to work with Dr. King on Vietnam Summer.  Of all the people I have met in my life, he stands head and shoulders above the rest.  This is last year’s article.  It is even more applicable today.

Normally, I would wish you a Happy Martin Luther King Day, but my conscience will not allow it at a time when Donald Trump and the Republican Party have trashed so much of what he accomplished, and today, Dr. King would grieve.  But he would also…

RESIST!!

  1. We really need to study the writings and speeches of Dr. King to understand his message and his movement. It is not enough to celebrate his birthday, or to name streets and schools after him – we need to live by what he taught and preached.

  2. Worthy and a kind, loving and wonderful Man for the ages!! MLK will be remembered forevermore!

dt and pence went to the MLK Memorial, (Washington DC), and spent 2 MINUTES there, and left. ;-(((

  3. Freya certainly has it right – not that the same could not be said of every great and moral human being who has ever lived.  It’s stunning, if one looks at it, how easy humans find it to admire someone yet completely dissociate from that person’s moral core … but it’s so easy, we do it more often than not.  I guess that’s itself the key – it’s easy.  Humans don’t like hard work much (and especially hard spiritual work).

  4. Really wish people would read and respect all that Mr. King spoke and taught. We sure need to bring it back to our world today.R I P Dr. King.

  5. Here’s something to be happy about: Two years from today we’ll have a NEW President!

  6. What a blessing to have worked with and known such a wonderful human being TomCat.  Thank you for sharing his speech with us again this year.

  7. Dumpy and Pence laid a wreath and spent a big 2 minutes at the MLK Memorial!  “Damn, how am I supposed to make money off of this?!”

  8. My pastor and I spent more time talking about MLK Jr yesterday in his office than Diaper Don and tup-Pence spent at the memorial . . . and we’re Canadian, not that King’s message isn’t universal, but I would normally expect the so called leader of the US to spend more public time acknowledging the importance of Dr King to history.  Not one minute of public time!  My guess is that tup-Pence dragged Diaper Don out.  My pastor has two very large pictures of MLK Jr on the wall who is an inspiration to both of us.

One thing is definite, Dr King did not remain silent.  He did not consent to the inequality, to the racism that was so prevalent in his day, and unfortunately still is today.

  9. Thanks and hugs to all.  May his legacy shine on years after the Republican Party is flushed forever. 04
