I’m in a hurry this morning, because I have a computer tech coming.  This is my only article today.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 4:29 (average 8:29).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From The New Yorker: Most people who are innocent of any crimes will still need to hire thirty-five lawyers at some point, a new study shows.

According to the study, commissioned by the University of Minnesota Law School, thirty-five is the “bare minimum” number of lawyers that an innocent person should have on retainer in the event that he or she becomes the subject of an entirely unjustified criminal investigation.

“We found that many innocent people are going through life without taking the basic precaution of hiring thirty-five lawyers,” Professor Davis Logsdon, who supervised the study, said. “They are flirting with disaster.”

“An innocent person who has absolutely nothing to hide should do everything in his or her power to avoid answering questions from investigators,” he said. “Thirty-five lawyers can really help you do that.”

Additionally, Logsdon noted, hiring nearly three dozen lawyers is invaluable because of the powerful statement it makes. “Nothing says ‘I’m innocent’ like hiring thirty-five lawyers,” he said.

Dang Andy! That’s not BS. That’s not even MS. That’s PhD (Piled Higher and Deeper). RESIST!!

From YouTube (Parody Project Channel): THE WALL CAME A TUMBLIN’ DOWN – Parody

Thanks Don! May the whole damn Republican Reich come tumbling down. RESIST!!

From NY Times: House Republican leaders removed Representative Steve King of Iowa from the Judiciary and Agriculture Committees on Monday night as party officials scrambled to appear tough on racism and contain damage from comments Mr. King made to The New York Times questioning why white supremacy is considered offensive.

The punishment came on a day when Mr. King was denounced by an array of Republican leaders, though not President Trump. The Senate majority leader, Mitch McConnell, suggested Mr. King find “another line of work” and Senator Mitt Romney said he should quit. And the House Republicans, in an attempt to be proactive, stripped him of the committee seats in the face of multiple Democratic resolutions to censure Mr. King that are being introduced this week.

Those measures would force Republicans to take a stand on the House Democratic majority’s attempt to publicly reprimand one of their own.

Too little, too late. Steve King has been doing this for years, and all these Republicans have been gleefully goose-stepping with him all along. RESIST!!

  1. 35 lawyers? WTF? Even when one is innocent? That’s not justice – that’s B.S. Or, as you point out, TomCat, PhD – Piled Higher & Deeper. Our “justice” system is totally biased in favor of the rich.

This country needs to overhaul a lot of its systems, and furthermore, do extensive overhauls. But good luck getting our elected “representatives” to do even the least thing when they are concerned with only getting re-elected, and thus kissing up to their biggest donors.

  2. NYer:Bigly! numbers of lawyers knocking down the doors! btw..No one wants to be around him now. lol Andy.

    PPC: Excellent song/words!!

NYT: They should have done it sooner, it’s all for show. They’ll still be lying tomorrow, and MM will still be stonewalling the citizens re: the shutdown. ugh!!

Cartoon: Wow! I remember watching this game w/family. We are now at LIII this year! Boy, does time fly by or what?

Hope that you got everything taken care of, computer wise. Enjoy the rest of your day, and evening, take good care, and Thanks, Tom.

  3. 6:17 Like the old punchline, there’s got to be a horse in there somewhere.

Hope your computer project goes/is going/went smoothly and that all is well in the Cat Box.With Nunes coming back into the spotlight, this might be a good time to reference this article. Apparently he comes by his sneakiness honestly.

New Randy Rainbow! And not a moment too soon!

TNY – How insulting to Minnesota. Surely, that should have been Fitzwalkerstan.

Other PP – Yeah. Actually, among all the other crap it covers, the Nunes story I linked above has something to say about immigration too.

NYT – Bookmakers are giving odds on how soon he will be reinstated to all those committees.

Cartoon – Goodness – it’s been that long?

  4. Rep. Steve King – proving that calves aren’t the only thing made of cantaloupes:

(Maybe that’s where the phrase “Melon Head” came from)

I, too remember watching Super Bowl I with family.  I hope the Chiefs make it back again this year – but w/ better results.

But their game this Sunday against New England is going to be miserable: The high is going to be 11 degrees – not counting wind chill!

Did you notice all the empty seats at Super Bowl I? Wouldn’t be surprised if there are quite a few no-shows this Sunday. That’s dangerous weather!

  5. 5:34 Should have had that coffee first. Kept seeing just stripes.

TNY: “Nothing says ‘I’m innocent’ like hiring thirty-five lawyers,” satire at its very best, Andy!

PP: Great new text, Don and it came across loud and clear by the subtle way you’ve performed it.

NYT: You’re quite right, TomCat, King’s been doing this for years and Republicans are only pushing him out of the limelight a bit by taking him off these committees, to save face and then hope King will behave for a while.

He’ll do that about as much as Nobel prize winner James Watson, who helped discover DNA’s double helix structure, who was this week stripped of his honorary titles for repeating an “unsubstantiated and reckless” suggestion that genes make black people less intelligent. The institute, which had terminated Dr Watson’s status as chancellor, i.e. fired him, following similar comments more than a decade ago, said his most recent statements “effectively reverse the written apology and retraction” he made in 2007.

Perhaps King can join Watson in some genetic research on racism? One thing is for sure, racist do not change their tune when reprimanded or even fired.

Hope your techie came through for you today, TomCat.

    • Maybe that’s what all that once called “Garbage DNA,” is about…making melon heads, but we won’t know, in either case, until autopsy.  Well, no, fMRI might pick up what lives in King’s head!

      • Hmmmph.  One of the animals I am “clicking to donate” for is a cat who could use a cat scan.  I’d rather the cat get it than the King.  The cat has actual medical reasons.

  6. On the NY Times article, your comment was: “Too little, too late. Stephen King has been doing this for years, and all these Republicans have been gleefully goose-stepping with him all along.”

Stephen King is the author of Pet Sematary, Cujo etc.  Steven King aka Steve King is the racist Republican Representative from Iowa.

I changed it to “Too little, too late. Steve King has been doing this for years, and all these Republicans have been gleefully goose-stepping with him all along.”

Hope I read your mind properly!

Mind, Steve King is a horror show!

  7. TNY: To paraphrase Bruce Lee: A man who is innocent on the inside, must decorate himself on the outside…with 35 lawyers.
    PPC: So beautifully done!
NYT: Too little, too late.  And, of course, no comment from the Grifter-in-Chief!
‘Toon: Even before Woodstock!  I do not know that I watched, might have.

  8. TNY: That seems insane.Agree with others that no one except the dumb ones want to be associated or around him.PPC: Outstanding song. Wish the idiot would listen to it.Cartoon: It has been a while.Hope everything went well with your technician. That it got taken care of quickly.

  9. Puzzle — 4:34  Did I get hammered or what!

The New Yorker — Just goes to show that there is injustice in the justice system.  Only the very wealthy can afford a retinue of lawyers like that.  I wonder if those lawyers have “TRUMP” emblazoned on their butts.

Parody Project — Excellent as usual.

NY Times — So Republicans think they have addressed King’s misdeeds.  The cowards have basically done nothing.  It is all cosmetic.  Where is their outrage like that which they heaped on the new Rep Rashida Tlaib?  Oops!  She’s a Democrat, a women, and of Palestinian background so the rules are different!  Not to mention that Republicans as a party, are racist to the core.

Cartoon — I definitely did not watch it.  I did not like football on TV but I played football with the boys in the neighbourhood.  I imagine that my brother and step brothers watched it though.

How did it go with the tech?  Hope he was able to solve any problems.

  10. Thanks and Hurried Hugs! 26

  11. Ooooh new Randy Rainbow!!!
