It’s a muggy day here at the CatBox, and I’ll need to button up soon.  Last night was so sticky that I slept poorly, and I feel very tired now.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Jig Zone did not have a new puzzle today.  I do not know why.

Short Takes:

From YouTube (CNN Channel): Senator: White House looking to frighten American people

Jeff said, "We need to focus on things that effect Americans’ daily lives." I agree. Focus on the total elimination of the Republican Reich. As for the caravan, find the ones that legitimately need protection and keep them. Treat ALL the children like children, not like terrorists. RESIST!! VOTE BLUE!!

From BBC: Turkey has vowed to reveal all details about the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, after Saudi Arabia admitted for the first time he had been killed in its consulate in Istanbul.

"Turkey will never allow a cover-up," a ruling party spokesperson said.

Saudi Arabia suggested on Friday Mr Khashoggi, a prominent Saudi critic, had died in a "fist fight".

Turkish officials previously said he had been deliberately killed inside the consulate, and his body dismembered.

Earlier this week, unnamed Turkish officials told media outlets they had audio and visual evidence to prove this.

Turkey needs to release that audio-visual evidence to the world press. I have no desire to hear or see the grisly assassination, but the American people need it to be shocked out of their ho-hum complacency about Trump’s role in the Saudi cover-up. RESIST!! VOTE BLUE!!

From Alternet: Here are five of the most important points that Jamal Khashoggi made in his final column for the Washington Post.

1. Democracy Is in Short Supply in the Arab World

Khashoggi’s final column addresses human rights, which is bitterly ironic in light of Turkish government officials’ allegation that he was murdered by Saudi agents on orders from the Saudi royal family. Khashoggi opens the column by discussing Freedom House’s 2018 Freedom in the World Report and its assessment of political conditions in Arab countries; Tunisia, Khashoggi laments, is the only one classified as “free” in the report, with Morocco, Jordan and Kuwait being classified as “partly free” and all other countries in the Arab world being classified as “not free.”

I shared one. Click through for the other four. RESIST!! VOTE BLUE!!

  1. 0:00 How odd.

    New from Randy Rainbow

CNN – Jeff is kinder than I would be. Damn right they are trying to frighten Americans. If they didn’t have fear, they wouldn’t have ANYTHING to sell. Damn right they should be allowed into the country. They have to be in the country to even apply for asylum.

BBC – Trump’s position – I don’t hink he has said it in so many words, but he has strongly implied it – is that Mr. Khashoggi was NOT a US citizen, he was a Saudi citizen, and whatever Saudis did to their own citizen is no one’s business but theirs. Asking “Who brings a bone saw to a fist fight?” is nowhere near his radar.

AlterNet – Yes. So of course he was doomed.

Cartoon – And it became a boogeyman for kids and their parents. Anyone else remember “your permanent record”? Ironically, there now is such a thing an no one seems to care at all.

  2. CNN: All should be allowed to come into this country!! They have every right to seek asylum. Republicons are trying to deflect from the real issues that are going on in this country, and what is coming out of this WH.

BBC: Trump just got $100 million from the Saudis for the US involvement regarding Syria….dt has been very quiet about speaking up and about (or against) this brutal and horrible murder of Mr. Khashoggi. Unreal. https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2018/10/saudi-arabia-wires-us-dollar100-million-as-trump-proclaims-mbs-innocent

AN: I read his piece, and he spoke the truth, unlike some people who relentlessly spread lies.

Cartoon: Oh, it’s there. It never left.

It’s still sprinkling, and cool for me still, as I’m still wearing two shirts. lol. Hope that you have a good relaxing evening, take good care, and Thanks, Tom.

*Joanne, Love RR, he’s so spot on, and adorable!!

  3. CNN: Fear is driving the GOP into scare tactics against the voters. How GOP!

BBC: Saudi Arabia: “payola” to Drumpf.

AlterNet: Khashoggi must have an inkling as to what was going on prior the “fistfight”.

Cartoon: HUAC: The Return of HUAC?

  4. “1. Democracy Is in Short Supply in the Arab World”

Hell, with Twitler and his thugs, democracy is in short supply in the USA!

  5. I would not be at all surprised if tRump and his cronies create something akin to the HUAC, only an order of magnitude more evil.

  6. Still no new puzzle today, so why not do one of The Master Himself?

CNN: Jeff Merkley:”…we have to have a certain sense of dignity and decency in recognizing that when people flee persecution we should greet them with the philosophy adhered to the Statue of Liberty and not treat them as criminals and lock up the children behind barbed wire.” Kudos!

BBC: I wish I could trust Erdogan as much as the BBC seems to do, but I believe he’s made from the same cloth as Drumpf is and will use these tapes in a bargain to get the tariffs on steel and aluminum, Drumpf imposed on Turkey , lifted again.

Alternet: But even he didn’t think he’d be captured, tortured and killed in the Saudi embassy in Turkey when he’d came to pick up wedding documents. The Saudi ruthlessness is beyond imagining, I suppose.

  7. Jeff: “…but no one there appears to be listening.”  Not in this administration, no way listen to reason.  Dumpy will probably use the caravan to drum up more xenophobic support.
BBC: “Turkey will never allow a cover-up.”  Right, just ask all the Armenians of the world, whose numbers ought to be much higher.
Alternet:  With all due respect-No sh*t Sherlock!
‘Toon:  The most “UnAmerican” Activity is coming from the PIGGIE slough!  s it was in the ’40’s and ’50’s.

  8. CNN: Real nice to see that these ba*ards are trying to scare us Americans. Screw them 100%. We’ll show them in the coming weeks when we get more DEMS into office to get rid of the old as* kissing repugs out. As for the people trying to come in, they should have rights in wanting to better their lives. BBC: Would be nice if the truth does come out. Sick of bits and pieces. Same goes for more information about tRump’s involvement with the Saudis. It all has to come out and people better wise up about this evil leader we have.Take care. Thanks TomCat

  9. Thanks all.  Rushed Hugs! 17

  10. CNN — As Diaper Don said to journalist Bob Woodward ““Real power is, I don’t even want to use the word: ‘Fear.’”” He is stoking fear of immigrants etc as a way to deflect from other matters such as affordable healthcare.  That is the modus operandi of dictators/despots/fascists.  Jeff is so spot on!

BBC — It is very important to see and hear the evidence that the Turks possess as this morning, the Saudi Foreign Affairs minister, or whatever title he goes by, has said that the murder of Khashoggi was by a rogue agent. The explanation keeps changing. Is it any wonder that the international community does not trust Saudi Arabia! I am of the opinion that Khashoggi was murdered by the Saudis as retribution for his criticism, but also as a warning to all others that criticism, dissent, and protest will not be tolerated. After all, dictators/despots/fascists (Diaper Don, Kim, Putin, Assad, MBS etc) know that as Diaper Don said ““Real power is, I don’t even want to use the word: ‘Fear.’””.

AlterNet — An excellent article. A shame that it had to be his last. In Khashoggi’s death, providing the total fear factor does not take hold, the Saudi’s have created a martyr. I hope for the safety of people like Raif Badawi and his sister, both of whom were imprisoned by the Saudis for supposedly going against the Saudis. I think it is past time that Canada presses for the release  of Badawi whose family is resident in Québec. I would also hope that the international community joins in the condemnation of the killing and/or imprisonment of all political prisoners and seeks their release. I doubt that Diaper Don will do so since he is so buddy buddy with MBS.

Cartoon — The Republican dominated Congress will never open hearings on itself! . . . not to mention that there is a conflict interest involved . . . not that Republicans were ever concerned about that.

My entire comment disappeared this morning and I did not have time before church to redo it. Yesterday was busy as we had our municipal elections across BC. At my polling place, the line up was long but it moved quite well. A local Scout troop was out selling beautiful BC apples to those in line. I particularly appreciated the apple since I had just had my fasting blood tests done before voting.
