It’s cool so far here in the CatBox, but it should be sunny in a bit, so I’ll need to crank up the AC.  News may be slow for the next few days, as MSNBC is reporting Florence, almost to the exclusion of everything else.  It’s a holy night in the Church of the Ellipsoid Orb.  The Bengals and Ravens are meditating, and I expect the birds will eat the cats.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 2:47 (average 4:57).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From YouTube (Robert Reich Channel): Robert Reich: How to Build Progressive Power

Of course the Reich on the left, Robert Reich, is right. In order to accomplish his worthy goals, we need to flush the Reich on the Right, the Republican Reich at all levels of government, federal, state, and local. Every Republican dawg catcher is one Republican dawg catcher too many! RESIST!! VOTE BLUE!!

From YouTube (MSNBC Channel): Lawrence: GOP Midterm ‘Shipwreck’ Could Be Worse

I’ll be surprised, if we take the Senate, but let this go from Lawrence’s mouth to God’s ear. However, we will win nothing, unless YOURESIST!! VOTE BLUE!!

From CNN: Nearly 3,000 people died in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico. President Donald Trump denied this reality as a hurricane barrels toward the Carolinas.

"3000 people did not die in the two hurricanes that hit Puerto Rico. When I left the Island, AFTER the storm had hit, they had anywhere from 6 to 18 deaths. As time went by it did not go up by much. Then, a long time later, they started to report really large numbers, like 3000," he said in a tweet Thursday morning [Twit tweet delinked] as Carolinians prepared to be pummeled by Hurricane Florence.

Earlier this month, the island’s governor formally raised the death toll from Hurricane Maria to an estimated 2,975 from 64 following a study conducted by researchers at The George Washington University. CNN’s own reporting reflects similar numbers. The university study accounted for Puerto Ricans who succumbed to the stifling heat and other aftereffects of the storm and had not been previously counted in official figures. Much of the US territory was without power for weeks.

Para el cerdo anaranjado: mierda de toro!  RESIST!!  VOTE BLUE!!

  1. 5:03 That’s one big bird. Looks healthy, too. Maybe Squatch can save him.

MSNBC from yesterday – this is the first petition I’ve seen so far. I think I also saw one at Daily Kos, but I’m not finding it now.

Reich – I think we can get a justice-civil rights coalition. I’m less sanguine abuout getting money under control, but we MUST do that.

Lawrence – From his mouth to God’s ear indeed. Seriously, TC, if BBM is nervous about it, it is a real possibility. But that’s far from a certainty. We CANNOT relax or be complacent.

CNN – I thought that number was low, and I see it’s from the governor, so I’m sure it’s low. I’d like to hear Mayor Cruz’s estimate. I’ll bet it’s more. But even at 3,000, Senator Murphy’s tweet which I posted yesterday still applies.

Cartoon – Yes, well, that was when Republicans had integrity – or at least some of them.

    • Took me a minute to figure out who BBM is.

During the vote on Kavanaugh (assuming he’s not derailed by the letter Sen. Feinstein turned over to the FBI) I would love to see Sen. Flake (or any republican) go to the well of the Senate and give a McCain-style “Thumbs Down” – then turn and give Mitch the evil eye.

  2. RR: Oh, so right! Love his videos. I’m all for free college education, and I remember living payday to payday.

MSNBC: Best news EVER! RESIST !!! VOTE!!!!

CNN:: Those lives could have been saved !!!!! dt is void of emotions, and with no care whatsoever towards it’s people of PR, regarding this devastation to this beautiful island. He’s so cold blooded. imho.

Cartoon: Wow! A champion for human rights and honesty.

Good luck on your game. We play Titans on Sunday. We’ll see. I mowed the back 40, gawd, the humidity, unreal. My friend who is in NC is safe with her family, her boyfriend is law enforcement, and he stayed behind on duty. Prayers to those folks who decided to stay…also. It’s a heck of a storm. Enjoy your evening, take care, and Thanks, Tom.

*Joanne, thanks for the petition, I signed. LOVE your bumblebee Resist/Persist pic too.

*This just in: “George Washington – “I cannot tell a lie.” Richard Nixon – “I cannot tell the truth.”Donald Trump – “I cannot tell the difference.” ~S. Wilson ~

  3. Reich: Amen to all that! Shout it from the mountaintop! However, we won’t have even a ghost of a chance UNLESS we get our arses to the polls and cast informed ballots! Make sure you are registered to vote, make sure all your 18+ kith and kin are registered, volunteer for a registration drive, offer to take people to polling places, and above all, VOTE! Only a Blue Tsunami will give us any hope of turning this country around. Remember: Losers don’t make policy.

MSNBC: I pray to any Higher Power that happens to exist the Rethuglicanazis are headed for a fall. A political bloodbath will demonstrate not only the failure of the GOP, but also the Power of the People. If we manage to toss the Orange Ogre’s tangerine tush out of the Oval Office, yes, we’d get President Pence – but if he faces a Democrat-dominated Congress, our worries will be less. Meanwhile, remember that local and state elections are just as important as national ones!

CNN: tRump’s response to the calamity in Puerto Rico is utterly execrable. Some wild rumors say it is so ultra-wealthy can wade in, buy up land from the desperate, and turn Puerto Rico into Fat Cat Paradise. (Sorry, cats, it’s just a phrase – and pigs need some relief.)

  4. RRC: You Betcha!
MSNBC: Saw Steve Kornacki at a “55 Plus” gathering, in New Jersey, this morning.  He said the the GOP is hoping that Dumpy’s favorability rating will be at, or near, 44% at the time of the election.  Based on historical patterns, that ought to signal that they will hold the House.  AMAZINGLY, early on Aug. 21st, that’ where it was, before the Manfart and Cohen news broke.  It is now, if I recall correctly, at 39%.  Should it go to 36% that might put the House in serious play, maybe the Senate, as well.
CNN: then, he said that the media is putting out the ‘fake news” about the 3,000 deaths just to belittle him. Well, he did not use that word, it has too many syllables for him, he said “hurt.”  You know, its one of those best words, of which he has so many, like his “best” people.?
‘Toon: That was when Maine had a real human in the office!

  5. RR: That strong progressive agenda isn’t a problem; after Drumpf many Americans are ready for it. It is the right people in power who are wiling to carry that agenda and fight for it. So you know what to do: vote blue!

MSNBC: Make Lawrence’s last words come true, Americans: let the election show that the current polls have underestimated the wave against Republicans and Drumpf. Paint Congress blue again.

CNN: For all the people affected by Florence now and in the coming days, we can only hope that Drumpf will redeem himself and has FEMA and other agencies give appropriate support during and AFTER Florence has done her worst. But chances are that Drumpf is going to repeat the Puerto Rico scenario, drop in as soon as Florence passes in an area not too badly hit, throw around some toilet rolls to mop up the spills and then leave to attend some more rallies where he’ll brag what an A+ job he’s done, while the real suffering only starts. His priorities will lie where they always lie: with himself at rallies where they sing his praise after eating his best-selling product, mierda de toro.

Cartoon: The good-old-days when a Republican could have integrity and still serve in House and Senate.

  6. Thanks all.  Hugs! 16
