Obama in California

Barack Obama traveled to California yesterday and jumped onto the campaign trail on behalf of Democrats there.  I’ll let him do the talking.  He’s far more eloquent than I.

Making his first major campaign foray into the 2018 midterm elections on Saturday, former President Barack Obama urged voters to elect seven Democratic candidates in California, telling the crowd they have a chance to “restore some sanity in our politics.”

His message, delivered at the Anaheim Convention Center in a traditionally Republican county in Southern California, touched on shared values of opportunity but also had a sense of urgency.

“It’s a consequential moment in our history,” Obama told the crowd. “And the fact is that, if we don’t step up, things can get worse. Where there’s a vacuum in our democracy, when we are not participating, we’re not paying attention, when we’re not stepping up — other voices fill the void.”

“But the good news is, in two months we have a chance to restore some sanity in our politics,” Obama said. “We have the chance to flip the House of Representatives and make sure that there are real checks and balances in Washington.”…

  1. This made me choke up…. Gawd…..how I miss this President !!!

Get out and VOTE! VOTE!! VOTE!!!

  2. There was an article in Alternet about the Kavanazi hearings being a demonstration of how important it is to vote – the point being, you don’t get voted in, you can’t pick justices. But I think the hearings are also showing another reason. We are all surprised and delighted at the way Democrats are standing up against the Kavanazi. Does anyone think they would be standing so strongly if the string of upsets in special elections and primaries, in favor of Democrats in general and progressives in particular, had not shown them, more strongly than the strongest of petitions, that we have their back? GOTV !!!

  3. You said it, P Bowen! We Progressives/liberals/leftists need to get out the blue vote by the busload. I’ve said it before, and I will say it again, because we all need to grasp this idea: Losers don’t make policy.

Losers don’t make policy – which is why we need to get behind progressive candidates with money, volunteering, and most importantly, actually voting!

  4. i have missed him for 1 year, 232 days, 6 hours, 42 minutes and 39 seconds ?

It’s really an honour & privilege to hear & watch his speeches over the past few days!

    TAKE IT BACK!!!

  5. I watched the entire talk he gave at U.Of Illinois, thank you, TC.  He can talk the language, can think, can be consistent, be goal directed, and cogent, does not show emotional lability, delusional content, nor display word salad, and paranoid thinking.  OMG, he’s SANE!

  6. Agreed, TomCat, Barak Obama is a very powerful asset to the Democratic party, along with those, perhaps unexpected, elected new candidates who are young, mostly women and above all progressive. Together they make voters forget the less inspiring Hillary Clinton and instil the confidence that the evil Drumpf and Republicans are spreading across the country can be stopped. They get their message across loud and clear: this government must be stopped dead in its tracks and some sanity must be restored in our politics. Take It Back.

  7. I happen to think it’s sad that Democrats can’t field candidates that can excite voters to vote and vote Democratic without the help of Obama, but I’m glad Obama is chucking tradition and will be out there campaigning for Democrats and speaking out against our criminal president. Speaking out against a criminal president is enough reason to forget tradition.

    • “Craziness” is much more “exciting” (i.e., appealing to the amygdala) than sanity.  That kind of is a built-in bug.  No, I’m not saying we should just accept that, but it does mean we have to work harder to generate excitement than “crazy” Republicans do.  And it is hard work.

Heck, even Marco Rubio can figure this out (quote from a tweet):

“Being outrageous equals clicks, viewers & therefore ratings & $ for media & fame for politicians. Being normal gets you ignored & a primary challenger for being ‘too weak.’”

      • Very true Joanne, but don’t get me started on how gullible I think Americans are.
Americans voted for Bush jr. the second time and Nixon the second time, both times Americans knew they were both big liars by the time of their second elections and of course, they voted for Trump and everyone knew he was a lying, immoral, jackass before the election.

  8. Thanks all!  Muggy Hugs! 03
