It’s another very weird day, because WWWendy isn’t here on Sunday.  Sunday, for this very stinky TomCat is 7:00 AM tomorrow morning.  Because the timing will screw up my day, please expect nothing more that a Personal Update, and I wont be sharing links messages at Care2.  The heat and smoke are back,  but after mid-week, I should get a few days of temperate weather.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 4:07 (average 5:05).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Religious Agony:

0818P-Broncos23-Bears24

Actually it wasn’t a bad showing.  The Broncos were ahead 23-10, until the last few minutes of the 4th quarter when the only people playing were players with little chance of making the team.  The players that matter dominated the Bears.

Short Takes:

From YouTube (a blast from the past): Eve of Destruction * Barry McGuire 1965 HQ

It was one of my favorites then, and sadly, today it fits even better. RESIST!! VOTE BLUE!!

From Alternet: One of the top concerns of Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee regarding President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court Nominee, Judge Brett Kavanaugh, is whether he knew anything about, authorized, or advised the Bush administration on their torture program for detainees in the War on Terror while he served as White House staff secretary.

In 2006, during his confirmation to the D.C. Circuit, Kavanaugh told senators, under oath, that he was "not involved in the questions about the rules governing detention of combatants," and had no knowledge of issues about "the legal justifications or the policies relating to the treatment of detainees," according to NBC News. However, Sens. Patrick Leahy (D-VT), Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), and Dick Durbin (D-IL) assert that multiple documents and email chains show Kavanaugh was briefed on the issue, implying he was not honest with the Senate…

…According to a press release from Leahy, prior to the meeting on July 24, Republicans were prepared to ask the National Archives to release documents produced during Kavanaugh’s time as White House Staff Secretary for former President George W. Bush. But after the meeting, Republicans refused to do so, allowing a limited release of documents curated by "a lawyer representing the former president."

"In the 44 years I have served in the United States Senate, I have seen 19 nominations to the Supreme Court, including the nomination of every current member of the Court," said Leahy. "I have never before seen the White House, under either a Republican or Democratic president, usurp or direct the parameters of the Judiciary Committee’s document request regarding a Supreme Court nominee. I find it troubling that the White House and Judiciary Committee Republicans are stifling transparency rather than working together to provide the necessary documents for the Senate to do its work. The American people deserve the unvarnished truth about Judge Kavanaugh."

If Kavanaugh, Bush’s torture maven,  were not a criminal, that would have disqualified him. Republicans are desperate to put him in a key position to commit new crimes, protecting his Fuhrer as an Injustice on SCROTUS (Republican Unconstitutional VD). RESIST!!  VOTE BLUE!!

From Think Progress: A New Jersey school board candidate often made racist comments on Facebook, calling Black people “animals” and “useless wastes of life.” He also frequently made homophobic and transphobic comments, mocked people with disabilities, and disparaged those calling for criminal justice reform.

Richard Jankowski, a 51-year-old candidate in Monroe Township, Gloucester County, made the comments on Facebook from 2013 to 2016, according to a report from the New Jersey Globe. Jankowski’s posts were all public, meaning anyone could see them.

“Glad the legal system finally got it right,” Jankowski wrote in July 2013, a day after George Zimmerman was acquitted of all charges for killing Travyon Martin, a Black unarmed teenager.

What else would you expect from the town’s Republican Party Chairman? RESIST!! VOTE BLUE!!

  1. 5:28 It would be more soothing if you put it in your kittybed than if you eat it.

McGuire – A few details have changed. The voting age is now congruent with military admission. The most terrifying form of war today is not a shooting war. The most terrifying threat is not war but climate change. But yes. Indeed. More so now than at just about any time in between.

AlterNet – There are people and groups working on this as citizens. But not enough. Orange Judas is doing a great job of distracting from it. If he is confirmed, there would be a remedy, if Democrats have the huevos to use it. It is possible to impeach a Supreme Court Justice. But I certainly would not like to have to go there – and I’m sure the reason is obvious.

TP – From a party chairman at whatever level, yeah, that’s what I would expect. Anything less would be considered a RINO.

    Cartoon – Yup. Always.

  2. EoD: Words sung years ago, back in the day, (60-70’s) that have more meaning today, so very appropriate.

AN: They should suspend the proceedings, if he is found of lying, and suppressing evidence. I hope he’s not nominated.

TP: Good grief! What a hateful man. Glad he dropped out from the race. Kudos to Gloucester NAACP President Loretta Winters for speaking out about this guy. ugh!

    Cartoon: Of course!

We squeaked by, with a 16-13 score. Good game! Supposed to rain tonight, we’ll see. Hope that you have a relaxing evening, take care, and Thanks, Tom.

  3. “Yeah my blood’s so mad feels like coagulatingI’m sitting here just contemplatin’I can’t twist the truth it knows no regulationHandful of senators don’t pass legislationAnd marches alone can’t bring integrationWhen human respect is disintegratin’This whole crazy world is just too frustratin'”

Sadly still very relevant today! ?

  4. Never, ever forget that numerous U.S. companies aided and abetted He Who Permanently Ruined the Toothbrush Mustache. Rise up, resist, persist, insist! Get out the progressive electors, and cast an informed vote. We may have just one chance to turn this country around by legal, peaceful means – or we really will be on the Eve of Destruction.

  5. Barry McGuire: His general message still rings true, and perhaps even more so now than in ’65. Scary: the wars fought then could be stopped and were, climate change can’t be reversed, only slowed down and prevented from reaching unliveable levels and we’re still not facing our responsibilities in it.

Alternet: Before you know it, SCOTUS will have a sexual harasser and a perjurer on board. I would think this isn’t the cross-cut of American society most Americans are thinking off to represent them in the highest court, but it’ll do absolutely fine for Republicans since it is a very good representation of the GOP. You know what to do!

TP: It looks like Richard Jankowski dropped out of the race for the school board position, but only after he was exposed. It once again shows how important it is for citizens to become politically aware, use their voting rights as best they can and vote Republicans out on ALL levels. The Jankowskis of this world should find no place on any school board or public office anywhere.

Cartoon: Why are we unable to learn from history and do we let it repeat itself?

  6. I don’t know if any of you have seen this video which appeared in my newsfeed today . . . it is from the NHS choir B Positive on Britain’s Got Talent and it is truly inspiring.

The B Positive Choir have an important message to spread through their music. They’re the official choir of the NHS Blood and Transplant department, encouraging people to donate blood.

I hope you enjoy these wonderful voices.

  7. I also want to share these two pictures of former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan who passed away Saturday 18 August 2018 at the age of 80.

    AMEN!!!

    In a league of their own . . .

  8. Puzzle — 5:24 Not often that I miss the average . . . must be the influence of the orange.  I do not like the colour orange . . . well unless it is the colour of Diaper Don’s permanent jumpsuit attire.

YouTube — Perhaps even more relevant today.  I wonder what McGuire would have to say about today’s situation?

AlterNet — ” … I find it troubling that the White House and Judiciary Committee Republicans are stifling transparency rather than working together to provide the necessary documents for the Senate to do its work. The American people deserve the unvarnished truth about Judge Kavanaugh.” — Typical Republican SNAFU!  That which grows in darkness withers in the light of day!

    Think Progress — Despicable!

Cartoon — And they helped to elect the current iteration of Adolf, Drumpf aka Diaper Don!

    • I don’t like orange either, but on this one it was not just the orange, it was the way the orange and the lavender were screaming at each other that was the biggest distraction.

  9. Miss the average on the one with the horsies! 25

  10. Thanks all.  Pooped hugs! 12
