It’s horrid hot, humid and smoky here in Portland.  It irritates my COPD and burns my eyes.  Store to Door delivered groceries, and I put them away.  This is my shower night, but WWWendy’s schedule is a bit crazy between having to work overtime and going out of town for a few days.  My shower times will be tomorrow morning instead of this evening, Monday evening instead of Sunday Morning, and Thursday evening instead of Wednesday evening.  Tomorrow that may interfere with my research and writing.  Happy Hump Day!

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 4:40 (average 5:22).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Fantasy Football Reminder:

The live online draft for our own fantasy football league, Lefty Blog Friends, is this Saturday, August 18, at 9 AM PDT (10 AM MDT, 11 AM CDT, 12 Noon EDT).  I strongly recommend that players log into the league and participate in a mock draft between now and then.  If you cannot attend, the league will draft for you.  See you then!

Short Takes:

From YouTube (MSNBC Channel): Senator Bernie Sanders: ‘President Donald Trump Has Got To Be Defeated’

Congrats, Bernie, but only 94%?!!? We will win the struggle between "establishment Democrats" and "social" Democrats by attrition. As time goes on more and more establishment Democrats will become socialists. RESIST!! VOTE BLUE!!

From NY Times: On a night when voters in four states went to the polls, Democrats delivered groundbreaking primary victories for a transgender woman in Vermont, a Muslim woman in Minnesota and an African-American woman in Connecticut, while voters in Wisconsin nominated a top state education official, Tony Evers, to challenge Gov. Scott Walker, one of the most vulnerable high-profile Republicans of the midterms cycle.

These diverse Democrats look like winners to me. Also, Kobitch won the Pigination as Reich-KKKandidate for Governor in KS, improving the Democrat’s chances there. Go Laura Kelly!! RESIST!! VOTE BLUE!!

From Think Progress: In Arkansas, residents on Medicaid need to report 80-hours-a-month of work or service online to keep their health insurance under new requirements. So far, more than 5,000 people have failed to do so, jeopardizing their continuous coverage.

About 5,426 people who qualify for the public health insurance program designed for low-income people failed to report 80 hours of work in June and July, according to the latest numbers from Arkansas’ Department of Human Services. If they fail to report hours in August, Arkansas officials will boot people who are otherwise eligible for Medicaid off the program for the rest of the calendar year.

In July, only 844 residents actually satisfied the work requirement, which must be reported online. Nearly 13,000 failed to in July. Of the roughly 43,000 residents subject to the work requirement — a number expected to grow as state officials are rolling out the requirements by age group — the majority were exempt from the requirement.

How many will Republicans murder with the RepubliCare Death Benefit: If you can’t pay, you’re allowed to die. RESIST!! VOTE BLUE!!

  1. 6:23 Finally, something a puddytat could eat. Maybe Squatch can save them.

MSNBC – 6% idiots compares favorably with the national average. I wouldn’t sweat it. Here in Colorado, MoveOn has asked memebrs whether some candidates should be endorsed by them. i’ve been questioned on two, and voted yes on both, with comments.

NYT – Yes, all goos news. Pretty close to GREAT news actually.

TP – Can’t work if you can’t get hired. Can’t get hired if you’re disabled and can’t work. (Probably can’t get hired in Arkansas if your skin is darker than a brown paper bag either. Not that Arkansas is alone in that.)

Cartoon – Haven’t seen the glorious inspector Goosestep for a while. Wonder what he has to say about Q.

  2. MSNBC: Good video, WTG, Bernie, Congrats. We need more more folks to vote. VOTE Blue!!

NYT: YAY, YAY, YAY!!! WTG, awesome news!! and WINS!

TP: Gawd, this is horrible. I hope that the Medicaid enrollees who are suing this administration win their lawsuit, to set this right. They (we) deserve better).

    Cartoon: Sad.

I hope you’ll be okay this next week with your shower schedule being ‘a bump in the road’ there. It’s hot here too, we could use more rain too, as we are still in a burn ban, no wind, but people are still burning stuff on their property. ugh! Hope that you have a good evening, take care, and Thanks, Tom.

  3. To those who holler “Socialism! Socialism!” I say, you benefit from “evil” socialism every day. Police and fire departments, public transit, public funding for roads and bridges, public schools – and so on till the cows come home.

The establishment Democrats are DINOs. We need to support REAL progressives and force Dems to return to their real roots. We need real Democrats, not Dumb-o-cRATs, in the seats that we flip to blue, else they might as well still be red. However, there is hope, there is still a chance to turn this nation around by legal and peaceful means.

    • In WV, we have two choices only.  DINO asshole or GOPig asshole.  There, if we run a real progressive we will lose, so we get an asshole no matter what we do.  Politics is a game of numbers, so the question is this:  Do we elect our asshole and get the number? 07

  4. MSNBC: More Dems!!!!!
    NYT: One good trend!
TP: A catch 22 for those hurting, more $ for those in control!
‘Toon: Inspector Goosetep needs to step into some quicksand!

  5. MSNBC: Bernie and Freya make it very clear what needs to be done: get all the voters out by November, get them to vote, vote as progressive as possible and vote Republicans out of power. Drumpf MUST be rendered powerless, impeached and convicted.

NYT: Sounds like a good foundation for positive election results in November.

TP: Like Mitch, I had Catch 22 come to mind too when I read this article. People subject to this work requirement are set up for failure and Arkansas officials know they are. It’s the Republican way to blame people for their own misfortune. It’s like blaming someone who can’t swim for drowning while pushing their head under water.

Sorry about the change in your shower roster, TomCat. I’m sure WWWendy wouldn’t put you through another shower-less day if there was another way to solve the dilemma.

  6. Thanks and pooped hugs! 40

  7. Puzzle — 4:32  Let’s go play with a ball my two big fury friends!  Don’t worry about the Puddy Tat.  You’re under the Squatch’s protection!

MSNBC — I have only one issue with Bernie’s interview: “President Donald Trump has got to be defeated.” should read “Resident Donald Trump has got to be defeated.”  Kudos to Bernie!!!

“We will win the struggle between “establishment Democrats” and “social” Democrats by attrition.” — I tend to agree.  Although not as big (but still very big!) a step as it once was, Bernie was correct in asserting that it is necessary to reform the Democratic party, and a large aspect of that is tailoring the platform to progressive issues like Medicare for all, a living wage, fair taxation etc.  As Bernie said, listen to the working people!

What will be interesting to see is if Democrats will field another candidate, now that Bernie has decided not to accept the Democratic nomination, to run against Bernie and a Republican nominee.  They would be beyond foolish to do so.

NY Times — Moving forward!  Keep it going!

Think Progress — This is pure unadulterated Republican bullshit!!!  It is interesting . . . during disasters, people jump in to help their neighbours.  Well Arkansas, this is a Medicaid disaster!  People need to come together to vote these criminal politicians out of office and replace them with real progressive people who will see to the needs of the people.

Cartoon —  I’m with Mitch — quicksand to suck him out of existence!

It is smoky here too now from the forest fires!  Previously we had air quality warnings because of ground level ozone.  Like you Puddy Tat, my asthma is affected by the smoke.  There is supposed to be off shore winds that will clean out the smoke.  I just hope they aren’t coming from the Portland area since right now, as you stated, you are soap and water deprived!
