The Russian intelligence agency behind the 2016 election cyberattacks targeted Sen. Claire McCaskill as she began her 2018 re-election campaign in earnest, a Daily Beast forensic analysis reveals. That makes the Missouri Democrat the first identified target of the Kremlin’s 2018 election interference.
McCaskill, who has been highly critical of Russia over the years, is widely considered to be among the most vulnerable Senate Democrats facing re-election this year as Republicans hope to hold their slim majority in the Senate. In 2016, President Donald Trump defeated Hillary Clinton by almost 20 points in the senator’s home state of Missouri.
There’s no evidence to suggest that this attempt to lure McCaskill staffers was successful. The precise purpose of the approach was also unclear. Asked about the hack attempt by Russia’s GRU intelligence agency, McCaskill told The Daily Beast on Thursday that she wasn’t yet prepared to discuss it.
“I’m not going to speak of it right now,” she said. “I think we’ll have something on it next week. I’m not going to speak about it right now. I can’t confirm or do anything about it right now.”
The senator later released a statement asserting that the cyberattack was unsuccessful… [emphasis added]

Here’s the deal. Despite their threats against Russia and their claims that they are shoring-up the security for the 2018 elections, Trump and the Republican Reich will do everything in their power to enable Russian tampering. They want to protect the election from voters, not for voters. That makes it even more imperative that we get out the vote, and to vote strategically, not conscience.

Absolutely, TomCat – but it isn’t enough to just vote blue. First of all, we need to do our homework so we can pick the best candidates. However, right now any ol’ Democrat is almost certainly better than any Republican.
Don’t just plan to vote. Make sure all your progressive kith and kin who are at least 18, or will turn 18 soon, are registered. Make sure YOU are registered so you can get on the rolls now rather than learn too late you’ve been purged. Volunteer for a registration drive, and/or to drive people to the polls. Voting is a superpower, but it works only when used properly.

I did see this story (Though I hadn’t seen Rachel on it yet – in fact, I still haven’t – my computer is resisting). My take is that, yes, Claire is a moderste Democrat. BUT 1) it’s Missouri. 2) Russian hacking, to me, constitutes an endorsement.And, if they are hacking her because she’s been tough on russia, that’s a great endorsement – we can be pretty confident she won’t try to interfere with any investigations into treason with Russia. And that’s something we really need, especially right now.

The Russians are intent on helping Drumpf, and subsequently the GOP, again as Drumpf is cornered further each day by the Mueller investigation, spilling of former associate’s beans and his own irrational, even treacherous, behaviour. If the Russians can take down someone who strongly opposes them that’s just an added bonus.
But I think the situation is getting even more precarious than that; Drumpf needs a war to keep himself afloat.
The trade wars turn out a disaster for America, Kim Jong-un has gotten the better of him, so where to go now? Of course Drumpf is now attacking Iran, the only country willing to play game by answering in equal rhetoric.
Apparently he’s gotten some Australian politicians scared that Aussies will be involved where “former allies” no longer wish to follow.
This news was repeated again and again here yesterday, stressing that Australia would be involved. As it was rather quiet about this on the US front about this, and only today was denied by US Secretary of Defence James Mattis, who had reinforced America’s hard line against Iran only the week before, I believe it likely that the unnamed “senior figures in government” leaked this information to indirectly prevent Drumpf from starting another war and having the Aussie government making it clear that they’re not happy with it and will not play a further role in any military action.

Trump is desperate to stay in office to undo everything Obama accomplished. I fear that he will start a war, with Russia’s help, so that he can be assured of his eight years. His friendship with Putin should put our do nothing Congress on high alert, but most of them like what he is doing because it benefits their wealthy contributors. If Obama had colluded with Russia they would have had him impeached immediately. Manchin is under attack in West Virginia so he will probably side with Trump just to keep his job.
If you recall, when Drumpf said “Russia, if you’re listening, I hope you’re able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing.”, Russia then began the hack of the DNC and the Clinton campaign. I am sure that Drumpf telling a Missouri crowd to vote her out was a word to Russia to begin the cyber attack of McCaskill’s re-election campaign.
The idea that Russia would interfere in the mid terms on behalf of Democrats as Drumpf has said it would do, is pure malarkey. He asserts this because he said he has been the hardest of all American presidents on Russia. What a pile of bull shit! In my opinion, Drumpf is being played by Putin, only Drumpf is too stupid to comprehend the magnitude of his folly.
Right now, Drumpf is a useful fool to Russia, but how long will that last?
