WWWendy is due in a half hour and we have a busy morning planned.  Tomorrow I have to go to the hospital for my annual preventive Cat-Scan for cancer.  I should be home before the severe heat of the day, but the dye they inject usually leaves me feeling queasy.  Please don’t be surprised, if I publish the Personal Update and that’s all.  I will not be sending links messages at Care2.  Portland is under an Excessive Heat Watch.  WWWendy kindly offered to do the dreaded task by herself, so I can finish early and rest.  I need to be in the lobby at 6:00 AM in the morning.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:23 (average 5:18).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From YouTube (MSNBC Channel): Rachel Maddow: We Have To Assume Russians Recorded Trump-Putin Meeting

Nobody farts in Russia without the FSB recording it for Putin [R-RU]. That’s the way Trump wants his control to be here in the US! RESIST!! VOTE BLUE!!

From NOLA: A CVS pharmacist refused to fill an Arizona transgender woman’s hormone prescription on the basis of moral grounds, according to the Arizona Republic.

Hilde Hall said she was "elated" when her doctor handed her the prescription for her first round of hormone medication, the Arizona Republic reported. However, instead of walking out of the Fountain Hills CVS with her treatment in hand, Hall said she was denied her hormones and "loudly questioned" by the pharmacist as to why she had the prescription.

The pharmacist also refused to give Hall her prescription note back, according to Arizona Republic, and she left the store feeling "mortified." Hall told her doctor, who sent the order to a Walgreens instead, where Hall was able to get the prescription filled.

According to Arizona Republic, CVS apologized for the incident in a statement… [emphasis added]

And CVS damn well should apologize, and the pharmacist should be fired and lose his license.  Imagine the Republican Reaction, if a pharmacist denied Trump the Preparation H he uses as face cream. RESIST!! VOTE BLUE!!

From Alternet: Glenn Greenwald has a piece up at the Intercept declaring that Julian Assange’s tenure at Ecuador’s London embassy may be coming to an end very soon.

Ecuador’s President Lenin Moreno traveled to London on Friday for the ostensible purpose of speaking at the 2018 Global Disabilities Summit(Moreno has been confined to a wheelchair since being shot in a 1998 robbery attempt). The concealed, actual purpose of the President’s trip is to meet with British officials to finalize an agreement under which Ecuador will withdraw its asylum protection of Julian Assange, in place since 2012, eject him from the Ecuadorian Embassy in London, and then hand over the WikiLeaks founder to British authorities.

Now it is Glenn Greenwald, so take it with an appropriately large grain of salt, but apparently this has been in the works for some time.

I hope Greenwald isn’t blowing smoke up our butts, as he so frequently has. However, I’d love to see Assange [R-BS] face comeuppance for his crimes. RESIST!! VOTE BLUE!!

  1. 5:39 Nothing to eat, and you’d lose your hearing trying.

Rachel – And this is why the American translator needs to testify. And needs to be well protected until her testimony can be taken by someone or some group with integrity. If we don’t have a record, whether they do or not actually, they can say ANYTHING and no one can prove they are lying. The Cohen thing we have already discussed; I have nothing new to add.

NOLA – None of the pharmacy chains is perfect, of course. All of them have got to have a rogue pharmacist or two somewhere. But as those rogues are discovered, they need to be weeded out. And I might point out that pharmacy is a field that needs people with real integrity. How can we encourage more fine young people to study for and enter this field?

AlterNet – Sorry, I didn’t make notes about this so I’m talking from memory. But – Sweden has withdrawn its charges. What Britan has on him is relatively minor. His greatest risk is being extradited to the US to talk to Mueller. I have seen nothing about any charge or indictment regarding Assange that would give us the status to request extradition. Of course Mueller is definitely not giving away everything he knows, so something may turn up very soon. I hope so. After the way Trump treated the Queen, I can’t see the Brits standing in the way of it.

    We definitely need this guy.

I’ve been waiting for you to mention a dreaded task day to put this up:

    RESIST AND PERSIST !!!

  2. Shame on that particular CVS! However, Joanne does have a point: We can’t tar all stores of a chain just because one has an @$$hole on its staff. We should petition that particular CVS to fire the mean pharmacist (maybe that creep can get a job at the bakery that won its case over the gay wedding cake, tee hee).

What we need is a Pied Piper who can get rid of not just Republicans, but also racists, tea baggers and greedy CEOs.

  3. MSNBC: “The worst case scenario that the president is a foreign agent, suddenly feels really palpable.” Yes, it does!!  And that is hugely horrid, just that it can even feel that way.  I heard from an old friend, at lunch today, who knows someone who travels in very upscale circles, who is a member of Mar-a-Lago, that the whole running for the presidency was initially a joke.  this is reminiscent of another scam’s beginnings,, with L.Ron Hubbard, sitting at a NYC bar with a friend, who mentions, jokingly, that, based on his science fiction books, “You could make a religion out of this!”  And here we are, in america, land of the phenomenally gullible, living with “And the rest is history!”
    NOLA: “Only in america!”
Alternet: Assange becoming available to the legal process sounds like a good thing to me.

  4. “… Ecuador will withdraw its asylum protection of Julian Assange, in place since 2012, eject him from the Ecuadorian Embassy in London, and then hand over the WikiLeaks founder to British authorities.”
    NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
    Global protests are being arranged;
Countries that are involved so far are Australia (Melbourne), New Zealand (Wellington), United States (Los Angeles) & France (Paris).
Free Julian Assange! Journalism is not a Crime!
    https://classconscious.org/2018/07/20/call-out-for-international-emergency-actions-if-assange-is-forced-from-embassy/

  5. MSNC: DT seems to side with Putin, and acts like a foreign agent and subordinates to him. imho…he betrays, compromises, and betrays our Nation, belittles our Allies, and coddles our enemies.

NOLA: Is there a lawsuit pending on her treatment at CVS? jw. That pharmacist who treated her should be fired, and retake his ethics in the workplace class course over. How horrible.

    AN: Finally!! What Joanne said.

Cartoon: Can we get him to clean house at the WH? That would be great! if he could.

Hi, WWWendy. Hope for you to have a good cat-scan, and a safe trip to and from your appointment. It’s a lazy day here, tho’ last night, some ids were firing off fireworks, and we’re in a burn ban. Go figure. ugh. Hope that you have a relaxing evening, take care, and Thanks, Tom.

    *Joanne: AMEN !!!

  6. You’re lucky they start early with their scans in the hospital, TomCat, and they can pick you up as early as that too, helping you avoid that dreadful heat. You’re blessed that you’re an early riser, but I’ll keep my fingers crossed the lads in the street will let you get a good night’s rest. Good luck.

MSNBC: Video not available to me. Feels like I’m missing something here.

NOLA: There is no excuse for this, but given de SCOTUS ruling for the wedding-cake baker we could see this coming. But as this pharmacist is working for a chain (CVS is a pharmacy chain, I presume) and not an independent, he has to hold his tongue for a while. Don’t give Republicans the chance in November to spread this “on moral grounds” disease any further.

Alternet: This could be true; it featured on our news last night too, but the BBC didn’t mention it. Perhaps too touchy a subject at the moment in Britain?

Cartoon: The current pied piper is leading the rats right into Hamelin.

Looking for an appropriate Big Mouth for Mitch I came across this one:

    Suits Drumpf well, doesn’t it?

  7. There are seven states that allow pharmacists to refuse filling a prescription for “moral or religious” reasons – so the guidelines vary from state to state.

Apparently Arizona law does NOT mandate that they pass the script to another pharmacist, but it still could be CVS store policy that they do.

It did note that Walgreens requires a pharmacist who refuses to fill to give the script to another pharmacist or manager on duty so it can be “filled in a timely manner”.

But I can’t envision any scenario that would permit the pharmacist to refuse to return the script to the customer.  It clearly was NOT his property if he wasn’t going to fill it.

  8. Puzzle — 4:25  I’m still hearing ringing in my ears!

MSNBC — Video not available.  Bugger!!!

NOLA — I do wish that people would realise that nobody would undertake gender change in the US on a whim given the seemingly prevailing attitudes of conservatives against such change.  Who would want to change just for the hell of it?  This pharmacist says he has a deeply held belief.  Well so does Hilde!!!  I hope this pharmacist feels the consequences of his actions and is fired.  And CVS, they should apologise.  Glad they did.

AlterNet — Wikipedia has an interesting article about Assange.

“The warrants cited 18 USC 371, 641, 793(d), 793(g), and 1030, which include espionage, conspiracy to commit espionage, theft or conversion of property belonging to the United States government, violation of the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act and general conspiracy. According to the statement by WikiLeaks, the alleged offenses could add up to a total of 45 years of imprisonment each for Assange and other WikiLeaks staff.

In a 15 December 2015 court submission, the United States confirmed its “sensitive, ongoing law enforcement proceeding into the Wikileaks matter.”[152]

On 20 April 2017, U.S. officials told CNN that they were preparing to file formal charges against Assange.”

Sweden has closed their file and the UK’s charge is for breach of bail which is a criminal offence according to Wikipedia.  So, as JD notes, Mueller wants to talk to him, I hope the Brits will assist if they take Assange into custody.

Cartoon — Where is the Pied Piper when he is needed to lead Republicans from Washington . . . and every state house too?

Sorry I didn’t get in yesterday.  Between heat and lack of sleep I was too nauseated.  I consumed an egg salad sandwich and some fruit and managed to keep it down, but I sure went to bed early and did not wake until 900 hours.  Much better today but the heat is back.  It is 30C (86F) with about 40% humidity so by the end of day, it will be higher.  I sure hope your AC is in fine fiddle! . . . and the queasiness is abating.  The heat just makes queasiness worse!

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
