Trump Lies about his Lie

In Helsinki, when Donnie Diaper Dump was bending over in front of Putin and holding his ankles, a reporter asked if Trump believed his own intelligence agencies about Russian interference in the 2016 Presidential election, Trump said that he would have no reason to believe that Russia had done so.  His lie created such an uproar, even within the Republican Reich, that Trump walked it back with a lie about his lie.

Facing withering criticism over Monday’s deferential joint news conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Helsinki, President Trump asserted Tuesday that he misspoke when he said that Russia had not interfered with the U.S. presidential election.

“Let me begin by saying that once again, full faith and support for America’s intelligence agencies. I have a full faith in our intelligence agencies,” Trump said, in a prepared statement.

Speaking from the White House, Trump said that after reviewing a transcript of the press conference he realized that “in a key sentence I said the word ‘would’ instead of ‘wouldn’t.’”

“Just to repeat it, I said the word would instead of wouldn’t,” Trump said, referring to his answer at the press conference, in response to a question about whether Russia had tried to influence the American election: “All I can do is ask the question — my people came to me, Dan Coats came to me and some others, they said they think it’s Russia. I have President Putin he just said it’s not Russia. I will say this, I don’t see any reason why it would be,” Trump had said, in a remark that stunned listeners and provoked outrage, even from many Republicans.

Blasted for questioning the findings of U.S. intelligence agencies that Russian operatives had meddled in the election — also a subject of more than two dozen indictments by the Department of Justice — Trump seemed more open to the intelligence findings, but continued to qualify his remarks. “I accept our intelligence community’s conclusion that Russia’s meddling in the 2016 election took place,” he said. “Could be other people also. A lot of people out there.”

And after attempting to explain his choice of words, Trump again insisted that his campaign had not colluded with the Russians during the election…. [emphasis added]

Note that even when lying about his lie, he went back to his original lie.

Lawrence O’Donnell cover this story in depth.

The statement that he misspoke contradicts everything else that he said in Helsinki.

The most disgusting thing about this is that Republican lawmakers are scurrying back to Trump, accepting his lie about his lie, when they obviously know better.  By doing so, they inherit an equal share of Trump’s treason.

  1. He needs to start insulting America in the locker room and apologizing on international television … instead of the reverse which he is doing.

  2. Good video. Good grief!!! What a lack of integrity, and respect for the U.S.

    Putin – 1 Don’T – 0

He’s not a clown, he’s a traitor. And his minions are in cahoots as well.

  3. The Orange Ogre has no sense of responsibility. He doesn’t give a s–t about anything or anybody but himself and his own selfish interests. Let us hope that the Blue Wave materializes this November, and continues after that, because losers don’t make policy.

  4. For all its shortcomings, “The New York Times” got it right WRT Trump’s treasonous acts as a traitor to America while in Finland.

This is the Editorial Board’s Editorial in graphic format showing where what Trump said in their presser is documentable to be a LIE in red, and where it’s Questionable in orange:

I have a NY Times subscription, and I know they have a limit to the number of free accesses per month (used to be 10 articles a month).

But there are two workarounds that I used before I subscribed that worked – at least back then.  First – turn off first-party cookies.  That way they weren’t able to know when I accessed them.  (They may have closed that loophole since it was a couple of years ago.  And you might not be able to view the Comments even if you are able to view the article.  At least that’s the way it works for the Washington Post – to which I do NOT have a subscription.  I can view the article, but not the Comments.)

The other workaround around is to clear your cache when you’ve reached your limit.  That way they won’t have a record of your visits.

  5. i saw it on our news last night, he disgusts not only the US but the entire planet!!!
    He’s a crock of ?

  6. We have very little time to watch the news at the moment, but we had to sit down to watch his “cover-up lie”, we just couldn’t stop laughing, his “misspoke” is so badly put together Drumpf only made everything worse.

Perhaps he should have prepared for a meeting a tad better, eh?

  7. It will come down to whether, or not, his supporters are more in favor of racism, or country; how much do they want a racist country, even if run by Russia.
Dumpy, of course, is simply out to have the U.S. Treasury pay back his debts to the Russians; simple!

  8. “Mispoke” my ass!!!

Drumpf and Pence MUST GO!!!  The entire Republican party is tainted by Drumpf’s treason!!!

    Lawrence makes very good points.

  9. Thanks, tired hugs, and amen! 23
