Reich: How to Save America

America is in the gravest peril we gave ever experienced.  You may think that it was more grave when the British occupied and burned our capitol in 1814, but I think that may have been preferable to the occupation we have today by a fascist Russian agent.  If trump gets another appointment to SCROTUS (Republican Constitutional VD), that may be the end.  Fortunately Robert Reich, the Reich on the left has some ideas on how to save America.

My friends, this is a dark hour. Intolerance, cruelty, racism, misogyny, xenophobia, and environmental destruction have been let loose across the land.

Trump controls the Republican Party, the Republican Party controls the House and Senate, and the Senate and Trump will soon control the Supreme Court.

Republicans also control both chambers in 32 states (33 if you count Nebraska) and 33 governorships. And in many of these states they are entrenching their power by gerrymandering and arranging to suppress votes.

Yet only 27 percent of Americans are Republican, and the vast majority of Americans disapprove of Trump. The GOP itself is now little more than Trump, Fox News, a handful of billionaire funders, and evangelicals who oppose a woman’s right to choose, gay marriage, and the Constitution’s separation of church and state.

So what are we – the majority – to do?

First and most importantly, do not give up.

That’s what they want us to do. Then they’d have no opposition at all…

I shared one.  Click through for the other six.

Robert has some excellent ideas.  Republican politicians, especially Senators, should never have room to fart without being overwhelmed by hundreds, if not thousands, of peaceful, not respectful, protestors, until the last Republican flushes out.

RESIST!!

VOTE BLUE!!

  1. Thank you for using a graphic of mine! I am flattered!

All of that is good advice. Most of us who come here are already doing much of it. Number three, “make a ruckus,” goes right along, both with what Michael Moore is saying, and with the whole concept of “civiity” which has become a buzzword.

WRT numbers 1 and 6 – I might add that it will indeed be a long fight — so long that some of us may not see the end. If I fight until and through my dying day, I will have done all I can do. In that case, it will be up to other, mostly younger people to carry on. That will be the best possible memorial you can give me.

    RESIST AND PERSIST!

    • I wish they were easier to find. 19

      • I hear you there!  I got to tired of going back to December 2015 for my Furies thumbnail I put it in again – at the end of a month so I may still have to go to an old month, but at least I won’t have to scroll.  But I’ll try to help.

  2. What you have stated, and also Mr. Reich. Grim and trying times for sure. Tried calling on phone, about 8x’s so far….must be on phone overload, I’ll try again later on. I also sent an email to Cruz and Cornyn…

*PS….Beto in San Antonio at the Burleson Yard Beer Garden 6pm-8 pm. 430 Austin Street San Antonio, TX Just sayin’…..lol

  3. RESIST is the word!

  4. Reich is so spot on!  I particularly like #4, as much as I would like to ring some Democratic necks for their idiocy about Jill Stein.
GET OUT THE VOTE! GET OUT THE VOTE! GET OUT THE VOTE!…………………………………………

  5. BETO!  BETO!  BETO!

  6. The right wants us to be civil like a bully wants his/her victim to be scared, feel overwhelmed: “Yeah, you be civil, you little runt, play by the rules, say ‘Please,’ and ‘May I?’ and show us all how you can take the higher road, while I kick you in the crotch.  Oh, you’ll file a formal complaint?  Go for it, it will do you so much good, when it lands on my buddy’s desk, and he/she will treat it with all due respect…right!  What, you want to know if all I want to do is win the game?  Hell, no!  I want to OWN the damned thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. You must all do what you can to save your DEMOCRACY!!! ✊SOLIDARITY ?

  8. I couldn’t agree more with Robert Reich, but then it’s easy for me, looking at it from a distance and in no position to contribute in a meaningful way. It’s all up to Americans, the 63% that haven’t voted Republican.

Please realize it may be the last time you get to vote in a long, long time.

Vote for democracy, vote for your life!

  9. As a Canuck, there isn’t a whole lot that I can do.  But having said that, I sign petitions, encourage others,  and I comment freely.

I remember years ago when Solidarity sprang up in Poland.  This should be a new solidarity that does not tolerate fascism in the US which is what the Orange Ogre is trying to usher in.

  10. Thanks, muggy hugs, and Amen to all! 17
