Bill Maher from 5/18

It’s that time of week again, so here are five fine video clips from Bill’s show last night.  Enjoy!

Monologue: Royally Screwed

I loved it,, but when Trump is removed, US will have to start a home for comedians who have nervous breakdowns over the massive material loss.

Clint Watts: Messing with the Enemy

I think he has a good handle on it. I like how he pointed out that the FBI and CIA are so authoritarian that they are very conservative (small c).  Therefore the notion that they are conspiring against a Republican is absurd.

Dambisa Moyo: Edge of Chaos

Key point: US politicians need to stop looking for short term solutions to long term problems. I think Civics should be a mandatory subject throughout K-12.

25 Things You Don’t Know About Michael Cohen

LOL!

New Rule: Trump Is Above the Law

He does raise some good points. The only way to get a conviction in the Senate is for enough Republicans to believe their jobs depend on it.  I’m not ready to stop fighting.  I hope you aren’t either.

RESIST THE REPUBLICAN REICH!!

  1. Love Bill. The Michael Cohen and New Rule is spot on!! imho.

  2. Bill – Monologue – “President Ji Ka-Ching.” Beautiful. I will was the wedding, and some things that have happenned in connection with it, that have touched the hearts of many people, and very different people, and that is a good thing. Anyone who is in no way touched, fine. It might be gracious not to be aggressive about that, though.

Watts – I agree, and I might point out that the mission of both the FBI and the CIA, technically, at the very least includes investigating to find out truth. There may be something about the mondset of looking for truth all day and every day which keeps them – at least some of them – I hope most of them – above corruption.

Moyo – Let’s not put this failure to think ahead on the shoulders of the politicians alone. I have seen politicians who do think ahead get slammed by Republican populism and not reelected – because Republican voters actvely resist thinking ahead, and their politicians know it and how to appleal to that resistance.

    25 Things – Great one-liners

New Rule – I’m not ready to stop fighting either. I am ready to point out that the two things he seems to have come down hardest on this week are “No one is above the law” and the royal wedding. And those are the two things that give people hope. Bill, cool it. People need hope. Unless – unless you really do want us all to slit our wrists.

  3. My favorite time, Bill time!!! 18

  4. Funny as blazes and to the point. I don’t give a **** about the stoopid royal wedding, either.

    • I didn’t watch it, and I won’t watch the re-run today either.  (I also have never watched Downton Abbey).  But this quote, from the Daily Mail about the time the engagement was announced, may show one reason why many people, including many people I respect, are finding hope in the circumstances.

While Queen Victoria sat on the throne, Empress to a quarter of the world’s population, a woman named Mattie Turnipseed gave birth to a ‘mulatto’ — the ugly, official term to describe those of mixed race — baby girl in a corner of America’s Deep South.
In that moment, a remarkable chain of events was triggered.
Half the population of Georgia state, named after Victoria’s ancestor George II, were black. Almost all of them had been slaves or were descendants of slaves, bought, sold, and passed on to lives of servitude and brutality. It’s almost impossible to picture the colossal gulf separating the most powerful woman in the world from a young, uneducated ‘coloured’ woman without a vote— without much more, in fact, than the clothes on her back. Yet this week, with the engagement of Prince Harry to actress Meghan Markle, a descendant of each of these women pledged themselves to the other

  5. Thanks you for posting these great, sometimes extremely funny, but generally bleak-in-message, videos, TomCat.
