Here is the one hundred fifteenth article in our Republicans on Parade series, featuring individuals who personify what the Republican Party has become. Today’s honoree is Republican White House Special Assistant to the Fuhrer, Kelly Sadler. She is so honored for the way she showed typical Republican love of and respect for John McCain.

0511kelly-sadlerA day after Sen. John McCain urged his Senate colleagues to reject Gina Haspel as CIA director because she had overseen torture of detainees, a White House official reportedly mocked the ailing Arizona Republican, saying his opinion "doesn’t matter" because "he’s dying anyway."

The Hill first reported the comment later confirmed by The Associated Press. Both cited unnamed individuals in the room when the disparaging remark was made by Kelly Sadler, a special assistant to the president.

McCain, 81, who is suffering from incurable brain cancer, issued a statement on Wednesday calling Haspel’s role in torture "disturbing" and "disqualifying" for the top CIA job.

The White House did not dispute the remark attributed to Sadler… [emphasis added]

Here’s a video report.

Now, over the years, I’ve had many harsh things to say about John McCain.  I even nicknamed him McConJob when he was running for President against Obama.  Even in the last week, I criticized him for opening the door for Trump by selecting Palin as his running mate.  He has the courage to admit his regret for that decision at the same time he insisted that Trump is not welcome at his funeral.  But I would never mock him like Kelly did.  No decent person would.

Of course, Kelly is obviously not a decent person, and that explains why she is a Republican.

RESIST THE REPUBLICAN REICH!!

  1. I don’t have a lot of use for McCain either, and even less for wife Cindy or daughter Meghan. But it’s just not acceptable on any level in any context to joke about someone dying. There’s an old proverb, “Do not speak of rope in the house of the hanged.” Decent people, as you say, know this.

But I’ve been saddened by the number of comments on this that offer a defense of Sadler in the name of truth. (Well, he is dying, isn’t he?) Either that represents a record number of trolls, or else it isn’t just Trumpians who have lost all restraint.

Both Cindy and Meghan responded to the obscene “joke” with grace and dignity. Peace be unto them.

  2. How does Kelly Sadler still have a job?!?

There is NO bottom to the depths of degradation this effing president and his comrades will sink to.

Cindy McCain responded w/ a thoughtful, temperate Tweet:

@kellysadler45  May I remind you my husband has a family, 7 children and 5 grandchildren.

Most of the Comments are wonderful – and they’re by Democrats!

But I particularly thought one by a Canadian (scroll down for Matthew Forbes) was spot on!

As a Canadian I’m sickened by the daily celebrating of meanness and cruelty. What happened to America?

  3. Gawd, how low can she (and the others who heard this), go??? Pretty Low, imho.

Rude and demeaning comments about the dying….how toxic can one be? My thoughts are of Comfort & Peace to the McCain family.

  4. Perhaps in response to the idiocy mouthed by Sadler, (I don’t really know what sparked it, as I was listening with one ear, from an adjoining room, as my wife watched the news)NBC News, just a little while ago, said it was going to do a piece on “What is wrong with this white House?”  Well, the answer is simple: the W.H., and it’s Cabinet, are filled with liars, crooks, grifters, and whatever undefined sort of scum that tDumpy can attract!

  5. OMG i heard about this, what a disgusting POS this sadler ? woman is!!!
If i had to pick a republican it would be Mr McCain, unlike the rest of them there’s something human about him!

  6. I have signed several petitions urging my Congress critters to resist that She-Wolf of the SS Gina Haspel. That WH sleaze bag had no business being so unkind to McCain! I’m no fan of his, but just because he has one foot in the grave does not make his opinions any less worthy. Think of an opinion that someone you admire expressed. What if he or she had said or written that while on the deathbed? Would it have any less worth?

The Rethuglicanazi party is coming apart at the seams. Sadly, though, the Democrats are no prize.

  7. As a foreigner I have no special feelings toward John McCain other than for the policies he stood and stands for, but it’s shocking to see how the GOP/administration eat one of their own when he’s dissenting, especially when the man is down and out on his dying bed. The cowardice and inhumanity of publicly kicking a man who is down because he’s disagreed on standard GOP issues once or twice, is horrifying but at the same time something we’ve come to expect in the Drumpf era. Vote Republicans out of every office – not just the House – or et used to it.

I hope this isn’t literally the last nail in McCain’s coffin when he feels obliged to drag himself to DC to vote against Haspel.

    • Lona, I’m pretty sure his time is almost up.  He had the integrity to request that Trump be banned from his Funeral. 35

  8. Jackie (panelist): “Yeah, the end of class and civility!” — AMEN!!!

As Peter Baker (NY Times reporter) commented

“Well let’s remember of course that it didn’t start just today.  It was Donald Trump himself who said during the 2016 election campaign that he didn’t particularly think much of John McCain and didn’t think he was a war hero.  He was a war hero because he got captured.  He liked the ones that didn’t get captured.”

So, when was it that Drumpf served his country in the armed forces?  Oh right, NEVER (you have to like those imaginary bone spurs!)  As far as I am concern, as POTUS he does a great disservice to the US.

I, like Lona, have no special feelings towards McCain, but he should be respected for his service to the country in war and in Congress.  I do not agree with most of his stances (he is a Republican after all) but he had the courage to go against the party line on a couple of occasions.  That I can respect.

And who better than a war hero who was tortured for 5 years to talk about torture and the negative effect on the US image that having a torture queen as head of the CIA would bring.

  9. Thanks, hugs and amen to all! 04
