It’s a busy day, here at the CatBox, and I’m working earlier then usual, due to a mild case of Republicosis.  Tomorrow, please expect no more than a Personal Update, or at most, an Open Thread.  I have a routine follow-up appointment with Megan, my PCP.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 4:15 (average 5:38).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From YouTube (NY Times Channel): Students Walked Out. Here Are Their Videos

Kudos to the kids and the fine teachers that enabled them. Jeers to the NRA/Republican deplorable teachers that tried to prevent their protest. RESIST!!

From YouTube (Vox Channel): The guide book that helped black Americans travel during segregation

It was a wonderful thing in its day, but we must fight the Republican plan to create the need for it again.  RESIST!!

From The New Yorker: In a freewheeling conversation with reporters after his departure from the State Department on Tuesday, Rex Tillerson said that he “really hopes” that Donald Trump finds out that he is being impeached on Twitter.

“I mean, the way I see it playing out, he’s up at 3 a.m., starting a new feud with Oprah or someone, and that’s when he finds out,” Tillerson said. “My only regret is that I won’t be there to see it.”

Tillerson started laughing in what some witnesses described as a demonic manner as he imagined Trump learning of his impeachment on Twitter.

“I mean, you have to picture him with his BlackBerry in his itty-bitty hands, and that’s how he finds out,” Tillerson cackled. “It would serve the bastard right.”

Oh Andy! From your pen to God’s plan! RESIST!!

  1. NYT: Wonderful, and fantastic to see our next generation standing up! for their rights!! KUDOS!

VOX: WOW! How sad. Speaks volumes of how travel was back then. The republicons would like nothing better to take it back. Way back.

NYer: Hoping and praying every single day that dt goes out, and quickly!!

Cartoon: Hope you have a wonderful day, Edie !!! Happy Birthday!

Lyin’ Ryan lying again to the American People!! Liar!!

Best to you tomorrow, on your follow-up. I’m out the door. Take care, and Thanks, Tom.

  2. 4:43 In Soviet Russia, salad eat you!

We will happily wait till Saturday to read what you have to say about Mueller’s latest subpoena. Say hi to Megan, and tell her to treat you right (not that she doesn’t).

YouTube – Students walked out of classes en masse, and some accompanied by teachers and administrators. And then there were those who were the only ones in their whole school who walked out. The kids are all right. The kids are better than all right.

Vox – I’ve read about it, never seen a copy, and I echo your wish it will not be needed again. But I have seen (in fact I have given to a friend who is the mother of sons) a copy of the handbook for dealing with being stopped by law enforcement while black. And we still need that, dammit.

TNY – An indictment would be even better. 5 a.m. would be give him less time to run than 3 a.m. Of course even 3 a.m. would be fine if they had the place surrounded.

Happy birthday to Edie (who shares the birthday with Ruth Bader Ginsburg)!

Cartoon – Boy, is THAT ever the truth! How did anyone get him to actually say that?

  3. NYT: Great to see so many kids protesting and knowing exactly why they are doing it. Sad to see that the political division has gotten a grip on teachers too. It’s heartbreaking to see teachers and school boards unable to see past their own political opinions and support these young people, but instead try to keep them from protesting. Deplorable indeed.

Vox: It may have been called the green book, but in America’s history its pages were black. I hope there is never a need for this green book to return for African_Americans, or blue for Muslims, or purple for Hispanics…(randomly chosen colours, of course).

TNY: “It would serve the bastard right.” It sure would; I’d go on Twitter just to see that.

??Happy birthday, Edie. May you have to blow out more and more candles in good health in the years to come! ??

  4. I watched the walkouts on the local news yesterday. Rarely do I watch TV news these days, but between the student protests and the death of Stephen Hawking I just had to keep the telly on.

A lot of blacks were very clever about getting around segregation in those dark days. Also, whites were not monolithic in being racist – many of them supported blacks, though they had to be careful lest they get branded “n****r lovers” and be ostracized. Currently I am reading the autobiography of Malcolm X, which has given me a view of the seedy underside of black life back in the day.

The Orange Ogre learning he’s being impeached via Twitter? So absurd it just might happen!

    Happy Birthday to Edie!

Anybody who would want to destroy our health care system, screwy as it is, has neither a soul nor a heart nor a conscience.

  5. NYT: May they sustain their drive!  May they sustain their drive, and never falter!  May they sustain their drive, never falter, and may they succeed as no one here ever has!  May the Earth open and swallow those who would shout them down, demean them, resist them!  For these latter are the true enemies of the people.
Vox: Never heard of it, and certainly hope nothing like it is ever needed again.
    New Yorker: KARMA!
‘Toon/Video: A walking, talking sh**hole.  I would like to see more of that clip, to see if anyone, Sh**hole included, winced, even momentarily evidenced noticing what spilled from his sphincter.
    Edie: Happiest Birthday!

  6. My thanks to all of you for the birthday wishes!

  7. Puzzle — 4:22 Made in America!  Send a whole bouquet to Drumpf!!!

NY Times — Awesome!!!  Kudos to the teachers that respected the students’ first amendment rights.  And to those Republican teachers who tried to prevent students from protesting, denying them their first amendment rights, a pox on you!

Vox — Valuable in its time, I hope it is never needed ever again!  Unfortunately, with Republican racism and bigotry, I fear it may be needed again only expanded with sections for other groups like the LGBTQ persons, Muslims, Hispanics etc.

New Yorker — LMAO!!!  Now that would be a bit of justice!!!

Cartoons — Lyin’ Ryan should be toast for that statement!  If anyone votes for this lying POS, a turd that would publicly outright say he and Republicans want to destroy healthcare, they should find lice and bed bugs infesting their bodies permanently.

You were sure early this morning. I did not get home from teaching until after midnight! There was a special assignment with which my student needed English help. I was so bagged and could not get into the OT etc before you. I hope the Republicosis is over.

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY EDIE!!!

  8. A belated – but heartfelt – “Happy Birthday!”

Maybe this cake will make it better …

  9. Thanks all!  Rushing! 26

  10. Happy Birthday, Edie… Enjoy your “Special Day” with Family & friends.
    Hugzzz, Jim.
