It’s a muggy day today here at the CatBox, and I’m still quite tired.  I’m celebrating my 39th birthday for the 32nd time.  Our server at Blue Host is intermittently offline.  Please be patient.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

I’ll have to include it tomorrow, because the website has been down all day.

Short Takes:

From YouTube (Parody Project Channel): In Memoria – A response to the NRA Ads

They did not sing, but their voices were as clear as a bell. RESIST!!

From YouTube (Inequality Media): The 6 Ways Millennials Are Changing America

I’m a boomer, and I have no objection to any of the ideas Robert attributes to the millennials, with the caveat that the only way to get a viable third party is to elect people, who will change the current plurality rules system, under the two party system. RESIST!!

From The New Yorker: Furious about her treatment on the CBS news-magazine program on Sunday night, Betsy DeVos spoke to reporters on Monday, and called “60 Minutes” a “total waste of a half hour.”

“I had never watched ‘60 Minutes’ before, but I can tell you this, I will never watch it again,” the Education Secretary said. “I have better things to do with a half hour of my time.”

Calling her interviewer, Lesley Stahl, a practitioner of “gotcha journalism at its worst,” DeVos said that it was “very unfair of her to ask me so many questions about education.”

“She asked me one thing about schools, and then another, and another,” she said. “If I had to answer every question she had about schools, I would have had to bone up on education for a month.”

DeVos said that she was “frustrated” that Stahl neglected to ask her about any of her “really good ideas” for the nation’s schools, such as “purchasing guns for teachers with money that is currently being wasted on books.”

Dang Andy! Betsy Wetsy, as Trump must like to imagine her, is a waste… of skin! RESIST!!

  1. As I promised from the Open Thread on the 12th:

Been trying to wish you a “Happy Birthday!” since 5 this morning!

This is the first [now SECOND] time I was able to actually get to the site – so I’m going to post it here … and again on the 13th IF the 13th posts actually ever show up.

That’s me on your right, and I’m not sure who that is on your left (too much “partying” … if you know what I mean).  We just got done singing “Happy Birthday to you …” to you.

You look great!  Well, except I’m not really all that fond of your long, red tie.  Reminds me way too much of Twitler.  But still, very classy!  (As you can see – me, being the slob that I am, dressed in my finest flannel)

  2. “Server problems” – yeah, no kidding! What a dastardly thing for the server to do to you on your birthday! I’ve been getting nothing but

    for hours – and

    on Jig Zone.

    Well, ANYWAY –

TC, I assume you know that the same date of birth is shared by Alan Grayson (he’s 60).

Is there anyone here who is on Facebook? I would like to suggest to Randy Rainbow that he consider making a parody of “Money” from “Cabaret,” but am neither on Twitter not Facebook, and those seem to be the only ways to reach him.

    PP – No kidding.

Reich – How did it work when Lincoln got elected? IIRC, it was a situation which may conceivably arise again.

TNY – As someone pointed out somewhere … none of the questions were rocket science – no one asked about the average velocity of an unladen swallow.

  3. M: Good video, very informative.

NYer: Pleeeeeeeeeeezeeee, she’s such a loser. I think that most teachers barfed over this show of insanity from bdv. Talk about clueless, and she’s the SoE, for gawd’s sake.

Cartoon: It is a Wonderful & Happy Day for you, TC. Happy, Happy Birthday!!!

Old habits die hard, lol, so I snuck in here for just a minute, to comment. Do have a good evening, take care, and Thanks, Tom. Oh, and did I say Happy Birthday? Happy Birthday !!!

  4. Happy Birthday!

  5. Hope you had a happy birthday, TC! And a happy Pi Day to you!
YT: When will we ever learn? Maybe Parkland was the tipping point. Every time a mass shooting makes the news, I hope that this is when we will finally do something. But every time – Virginia Tech, Sandy Hook, Las Vegas, and all the others – the jingle-jingle of the NRA’s filthy lucre drowns out the cries of the bereaved and the angry voices of the public. Until now – dare I say?
DeVos doesn’t know how many minutes are in an hour? And she’s our education secretary? No wonder this country is going to hell in a handbasket. RESIST, PERSIST, INSIST! We still have a chance to turn this country around using legal, peaceful means: voting. There have been some hopeful signs that Hoi Polloi have finally awakened, though, so this November could see a lot of red seats flipped to blue.

  6. I did all my birthday wishing yesterday, TomCat, so I now wish a long a deep cat nap for you to recover from that nasty intrusion on it.

PP: Don didn’t have to put all those wig and false beards on and make another professional multiple-take video to give voice to another brilliant parody song to stun me into silence and bring tears to my eyes. The solemn music to the chillingly long lists of shootings and the pictures of those killed in the latest horror was the best response to Loesch’s abominable ad I’ve seen so far.

IM: Oh, to be that young again…millennials hold so many values that are close to my heart, in fact still hold since I was their age. The only thing Robert Reich didn’t mention though, is the fact that most millennials didn’t have any political interest until recently. Studies made it very clear that Brexit for instance would not have been the end result of the British referendum had the millennials taken the trouble to vote. That may also have been the case for Drumpf’s election, although the lack of the candidate that appealed to them (Bernie Sanders) may also have been a factor. So things had to get really bad before they came into political action. But they are now the hope of progressive America, the group of voting age that can make the difference at the midterms. Let’s hope our generation hasn’t broken things so badly that they never get to chance to bring repairs to fruition.

TNY: Where’s the irony here, Andy? This is a perfect description of the interview and DeVos’ overwhelming show of stupidity and ignorance for all to see. DeVos made it perfectly clear that she’s absolutely wrong for the post as most people would see it, but perfect for the job as Drumpf and the GOP want it done: destroy education except for rich white Americans, preferably of the Talibangelist denomination.

  7. Well, TC. Another year, another stupid move by the administration. Oh and the site has been bad too!
Happy Birthday to ya, TC! Have a great day!

  8. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TC!!!

May all your wishes come true!!!

And someone stopped by to wish you a Happy Birthday . . . at least that’s what he told me . . .

I could not get into the blog last night so thought I’d try this morning.  Unfortunately, I don’t have time to fully comment as I have to leave shortly for physio, but I did want to wish you a Happy Birthday!!!

  9. Thanks, everyone, for the wonderful birthday greetings! 17
