Conor Lamb for Congress

We seen to have a lot of discussion here and more at Care2 that one not goose-stepping in lock-step progressive conformity is not an acceptable Democratic candidate.  I disagree.  Conor Lamb, who is running in the Congressional Special Election tomorrow for Pennsylvania’s 18th Congressional district.  Conor Lamb is a centrist, and if he is elected, I have no doubt that I will disapprove of more than one of his votes.  But consider the alternative.

Pennsylvania’s 18th District was Trump country in 2016. But on Sunday, voters there gave a raucous standing ovation to Democrat Conor Lamb.

Trump made a desperate and disgusting last-minute pitch for the Republican in the Pennsylvania special election. But many former Trump voters are vocally and enthusiastically backing Democrat Conor Lamb.

On Saturday night, Trump trotted out his familiar mix of racism and despotism in service to Republican Rick Saccone. He unleashed hateful attacks on women like California Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters and Massachusetts Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren. He smeared members of the press. And he rambled on again about making Mexico pay for his border wall.

But many Pennsylvania voters are no longer interested in what Trump and Saccone are offering.

At a Sunday rally in Waynesburg, Lamb received an uproarious standing ovation from the audience.

And that coal country crowd included “a lot of Trump-voting Dems,” according to NBC News’ Vaughn Hillyard…

Here’s a video:

Now, raise your hand if you prefer Sick Rick Saccone.  While it’s true that Lamb will vote against us some of the time, he will voted with is more often than not.  Trump clone, Saccone will vote against us 100% of the time.

Of course, I’d prefer that we elect pure progressives everywhere, but we can’t always have what we want.  When presented with a choice between a centrist Democrat, and an extreme-right Republican, we must throw our support to the Democrat.  Had all lefties done so 2016, we’d be far better off.  I wish I was bitching about President Clinton’s centrism, instead of trying to save our home from a Russia-loving Nazi.

RESIST THE REPUBLICAN REICH!!

  1. Well said. I agree. Voting for Sick Rick, or nor voting at all, will just give us another Trump. I’m not sure Pennsylvania can survive another Trump. Can we get lock-step Progressives to think in terms of ranked voting, where, although “None of the above” might be their first choice (and maybe yours and mine), Conor Lamb would certainly be our second? Speaking of which, I can hardly wait to see how the system works in Maine.

  2. I’m definitely w/Lamb over Saccone. Fingers crossed for a win!!
*Joanne, like your Resist/Persist picture. 04

  3. Half a loaf is better than none.

  4. If you are in the district (18th) and you vote for Saccone you are your own worst enemy!

  5. Agreed, Pennsylvania could do a lot worse than voting for Conor Lamb, provided that Lamb is not on his way on becoming Democratic elite as soon as he’s elected and stands in the way of the party becoming more progressive in the footsteps of Bernie and Liz who have never advocated “goose-stepping in lock-step progressive conformity”.

  6. Voting for an imperfect Democrat is often necessary.  refusing to vote for a Democrat because he’s not ideologically pure enough doesn’t mean getting a better Democrat, it means getting a Republican who will be far worse.
Very possibly a Democrat to the left of Lamb couldn’t win in that district.  Better to win with a centrist than lose with a “purer” candidate.

  7. ” …consider the alternative.”

There is NO alternative!  I hope he is not a Lamb to the Republican slaughter!  It is well past time to put Republicans on notice that their time is running out!

  8. Conor Lamb has the distinction of being the target of the worst political ad in history…..laughing

  9. Thanks all.  Hugs.  Server problems on site.  They are working on it. 01
