Unfortunately I just have too much on my plate right now.

I’ll be heading back to Illinois to

[1] Meet w/ Mom’s accountant to do her 2017 taxes – and begin work on a final estate tax form (w/e that is)

[2] Help the auction site we’ve used to sell the farmhouse, farm land and most of Mom’s belongings when she moved into Assisted Living empty out her apartment.  Fortunately there’s not that much since we worked so hard to sort & purge when she moved her into the apartment

[3] File the Will w/ the County Circuit Clerk & begin that paperwork.  Fortunately almost everything was either POD (Payable on Death) or had named beneficiaries – so looks like we’ll be able to avoid Probate.

But had another bump in the road.  My brother, who’s been having a series of serious medical issues, flew back to Florida a week ago last Wednesday (14th).  I drove back on the 15th – and when I got home there were a number of urgent messages on the voicemail.

That morning his cleaning lady found him unconscious on the floor.  Thank God it was her day to do the cleaning!

So back into the hospital he went for even more tests.  They found that he had 90% blockage of his left carotid artery.  So on Wednesday he had a endarterectomy done, and got to go home (which he was chomping at the bit to do) last night.

He has a special-needs kitty cat whose legs are almost paralyzed – so he has to put her in the litterbox and then take her out; take her to the food/water bowl; etc.  He has two other normal cats that he also dearly missed.  Since his wife passed last Labor Day weekend, the cats have become even more important to him.

At any rate, I hope that I’ll be able to do something next week.  Although I have my own taxes staring me in the face when I get back.  And this year I’ll have to start taking my RMD (Required Minimum Distribution) from my IRAs.  Just beginning to learn the ins-and-outs of how that works.

    • Nameless, it’s amazing how sprightly your writing stays even at times like these. I have to say your gif reminded me of a very old joke.

Steven Spielberg called a meeting with Arnold, Denzel Washington, and Tom Hanks. He told them he wanted to make a movie about the lives of several composers and asked whether they were interested. Washington said, absolutely, he had always wanted to play Beethoven. Hanks confessed he had a strong bond to Chopin, and Arnie said, “I’ll be Bach.”

On a different topic, I’ve had a few RMDs. Mine aren’t large enough for me to want them spread out, so I don’t know about that, but the one thing that seems so be true (and I have them in different places) is that everyone promises they will deposit it into an account of my choice, which I duly provide, and then, when it comes, it’s a check. Maybe you will fare better.

      You take as long as you need. We will still be here. {{{{{{{{{{SoINeedAName}}}}}}}}}}

  2. Aww….Nameless, take as long as you need to settle your affairs.
Blessings and healing prayers to you, and your brother too! Cats (and dogs) are part of one’s family, and are so loved as family members. Take good, good care of yourself. Hugs from Texas!
Thank you, Joanne for Nameless’ update.

  3. My dear friend, please take all the time you need to settle things and to look after you.  I am sure that your furry buddy, Nike, will be a big help especially in the “looking after you” department.

I lit a candle at church last Sunday for you, and I will light one again this Sunday for both you and your brother.

Please take care!  Big Canuck hugs from me!

  4. Nameless, I’m so sorry that happened to your brother, and I’m glad thew procedure was a success.  If I understand correctly, it’s an arterial roto-rooter, right?

You take all the time you need, and know that you and yours remain in my thoughts and prayers. 35

  5. Good to hear from you, Nameless. Of course you must take all the time you need to get all your mother’s affairs in order. But don’t forget to give yourself some time to grieve and get used to the idea that yours is the oldest generation now. Your brother’s medical troubles sadly may have made you both harshly aware of that. I’m so glad his cleaning lady found him in time and the procedure was so successful he could go back to his beloved pets quickly. He’ll feel so much better at home not having to worry about them.

Take care and stay safe, and we’ll see you when the time is right for you.
