The Students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, where a Republican Ammosexual domestic terrorist, who has been photographed in his MAGA hat, massacred seventeen of their classmates, are planning a major protest.  I fully support their efforts.  They are trying to be bipartisan.  That is, they don’t want to side with one party or the other.  That’s somewhat naive, but they will discover for themselves how partisan the issue is.

Among growing calls for gun control legislation, students who survived the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School continue to deliver some of the most powerful statements in the wake of the tragedy, and on Sunday a group of them declared that “now is the time for us to stand up” and announced plans for a march in Washington, D.C.

The students, Jaclyn Corin, Emma Gonzalez, David Hogg, Cameron Kasky, and Alex Wind, made the statements to NBC’s “Meet the Press”  and CNN’s “State of the Union.”

Gonzalez, who on Saturday gave a moving speech that went viral, told NBC, “This is our opportunity to talk to President Trump, Gov. Rick Scott, and state [sic] Senator Marco Rubio to make sure that they know we are talking directly to them and all other members of the United States government that are being funded by the NRA to tell them now is the time to get on the right side of this.”

According to Kasky, “the tragedy at Stoneman Douglas was not because of Stoneman Douglas. It was because people like Nik–Nikolas Cruz were able to buy these weapons.” Speaking to “Meet the Press,” he vowed, “we’re not going to let the 17 bullets we just took take us down. If anything, we’re going to keep running, and we’re going to lead the rest of the nation behind us.”…

Here’s the video with students Emma Gonzalez, Cameron Kasky, David Hogg, Alex Wind and Jaclyn Corin:

When Democrats controlled the White House and both Houses of Congress, Democrats did pass gun control legislation in the House. Republicans were unanimous in opposition. In the Senate, Republicans defeated the measure with a filibuster.

Those kids may be willing to work with anyone on common sense Gun Control, but so are Democrats.  The best either will get from Republicans is platitudes, but when anyone gets serious, Republican rhetoric will turn to Second Amendment Solutions, as always.

The students will learn that it’s only the Democrats that will work with them.

RESIST THE REPUBLICAN REICH!!

  1. VoteVets petition against arming teachers

True, they are not stupid, and should have no trouble getting the picture. Still, from your keyboard to God’s monitor.

  2. Nikolas Cruz was not the ONLY “mentally disturbed” person referenced in that Tweet – and it ain’t “Comrade Libre Verdad” ..

  3. if they lead let US follow

  4. Kudos to these students and teachers for planning these protests. I’m with them, and support them all the way!!!

  5. The shooting reveals what happens when a country has both lax gun laws and few options for those with mental health issues. Reasonable efforts to keep guns out of the wrong hands are important, but we still have to dig deeper for the real problem: our violent gun culture. We need to focus less on the branches and more on the roots.

  6. Despite all the empty GOPIG/NRA rhetoric about it’s all mental health issue, the GOP, going back to St.Reagan, has systematically destroyed the country’s MH system.  Reagan did it big time, as Gov. of California, where there previously had been one of the best systems in the country.
Apparently, just the day before tdump went off to “listen” to students in Florida, he signed something further eroding MH services.  Going back, at least to Reagan’s administration, many GOPIGS have believed that illness, and mental illness, is/are the result on one’s “spiritual failings,” and that such people do not, therefore, deserve the help of others.  The toxic legacy of that flow who acted his way through 8 years as president continues to impact the country negatively!
I do hope these kids can use their awful experience to bring us out of the depths of idiocy the GOPIGS represent!

  7. “This is our opportunity to talk to President Trump, Gov. Rick Scott, and state [sic] Senator Marco Rubio to make sure that they know we are talking directly to them and all other members of the United States government that are being funded by the NRA to tell them now is the time to get on the right side of this.”

Doesn’t sound like they’re all that naive to me; they know quite well who are funded (mostly) by the NRA.

Actually it makes good sense to make this bipartisan and not start to blame Republicans before they’ve even started marching. That way there’s a slim chance that Republicans may actually listen to them. The gun problem goes beyond politics and money, it has become a cultural problem about which the majority of Americans want something done, and which can only be resolved bipartisan, or rather non-partisan. If nothing else, this could be the issue on which Congress could unite, forget about those votes and do the right thing: gun control measures.

    • I agree with their approach.  It is appropriate for them, and when Republicans give them hope and snatch it away they will realize that we are the ones that will work with them.  Hugs! 01

  8. These young people are articulate and knowledgeable.  They are going to let the deaths of 17 friends and the pain of the community be swept under the rug.  With students like these, there is hope for the future!

I was particularly impressed with Emma Gonzalez and David Hogg.

Emma — “… now is the time to get on the right side of this … these people who are funded by the NRA are not going to be allowed to remain in office when mid term elections roll around.  They are going to be voted out of office.  Incumbency rates are going to fall. ” — I reckon these kids know more about civics than many adults who have voting rights, and it is evident that they are committed!

David Hogg — ” … because this is not the time for inaction and debate.”  That time has long since passed.  Action is needed.  I was quite taken with David’s last comment, his anger was articulate and palpable.  He called out Drumpf as is correct.  Republicans said that Democrats were the reason for the inaction, but David was not having it.  He said “That’s disgusting! … Children are dying and their blood is on your hands!”

As I was driving about yesterday, I heard on the radio that Drumpf is talking about better background checks.  Better background checks are needed.  But I felt he was in a momentary appeasement mode.  He will do very little just so he can say he did something.  The NRA money is too irresistible  to Republicans.  The solution is so much greater than spiffed up background checks and I think these kids are up to the challenge.  As one of them said, “we have to be the adults.”  They will not be silent!  They do not give consent for the murder of more people.

  9. Thanks all.  Snowing Hugs!
