I overslept this morning, but I’m doing OK, because I planned to skip my morning nap, anyway.  Tomorrow WWWendy is coming a day early, and I may have no more than an Open Thread or a Personal Update.  We have lots of chores to do, including the dreaded task.  In addition, we are celebrating Valentine’s Day.  I’ll just have to see how the day progresses.  TGIF!!

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:10 (average 5:05).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From YouTube (Media Matters Channel): Right-wing media: It’s never the time to talk about gun violence

Bullshit Bag Alert!! ??

Lets not just talk about it. Lets DO something! RESIST!!

From YouTube (MSNBC Channel): Paul Ryan: No ‘Knee Jerk’ Reactions On Guns.

Bullshit Bag Alert!! ??

Lyin’ Ryan is doing what he always does: lying and prioritizing blood money over dead children. RESIST!!

From People: …“Consumers have no information,” said Thixton. “A consumer has to become a private detective to learn what’s really in their [pets’] food.”

To save pet owners the aforementioned detective work, ABC7 partnered with Ellipse Analytics, a lab specializing in food testing, to test pet food.

The station tested 62 samples of wet dog food from over 24 brands for pentobarbital multiple times over several months. Only one brand of food, Gravy Train, repeatedly tested positive for trace amounts of the euthanasia drug. Sixty percent of the Gravy Train samples came back positive.

And while the amount of pentobarbital found was not a lethal level, any trace of the drug is not permitted in pet food.

Gravy Train is made by the company Big Heart Pet Foods, which is owned by Smucker’s. Big Heart Brands is also responsible for the production of Meow Mix, Milk Bone, Kibbles’n Bits, 9 Lives, Natural Balance, Pup-Peroni, Nature’s Recipe, Canine Carry Outs, Milo’s Kitchen, Alley Cat, Jerky Treats, Meaty Bone, Pounce and Snausages.

The question still remains how the drug made its way into the food, since it is often only found in the systems of cats, horses and dogs put down by the drug. Some worry this means these animals are being put into pet food, reports ABC 7, while others are more concerned that the drug is there at all and what its presence means about the quality of the food we are feeding our pets.

Shortly after ABC7 shared its findings, Smucker’s announced Wednesday that it is voluntarily recalling shipments of Gravy Train, Kibbles ‘N Bits, Ol’ Roy, and Skippy dog food over concerns about the presence of pentobarbital, according to WebMD.

Since so many of our friends are animal lovers, I found this too upsetting not to share it. Click through. Isn’t it ironic that, just a few days ago, Infidel commented that Republicans could be putting cat meat in food boxes for the poor. RESIST!!

From Think Progress: There were many memorable moments during the first full week of the 2018 Winter Olympics, but the most indelible image might not be from the ice or the slopes, but rather, from the stands; it’s simply impossible to ignore the North Korean cheerleaders who have descended upon Pyeongchang.

Fuhrer Drumpfenfarten is so jealous of Kim Jong Un! He wants his own nubile “Army of Beauties” wearing MAGA hats and waving Nazi flags. RESIST!!

  1. People: Shameful that we can’t be sure what is in our pet food! Cats and dogs deserve the same protection from contaminated food as humans. Time for petitions and boycotts.

TP: Fat Little Rocket Man’s army of cheerleaders is nothing more than ego-stroking. You have to wonder why he needs it. Only the small-minded need publicity stunts to make them feel good. Are they all that different from tRump’s proposed military parade?

    Cartoon: Ain’t that the truth!

  2. BBA: tf????! The US fights ‘Terrorism’, but not school shootings. And, still Congress, and the NRA has done NOTHING to curb this. Absolutely disgusting, and horrible!!! (worthless basturds!!!!)
BBA1: Ryan got $171.977 from the NRA. Blood money as far as I’m concerned. He’s full of sheet, as are the others.
People: Holy Moly!! I did not know this. omg, passing this on too. THANK YOU for the heads up too, Tom.
TP: dt is just salivating just thinking about it, isn’t he??
    Cartoon: Of course!
Awww, I hope that you and WWWendy have a wonderful Valentine’s Day together.
Y’all deserve it, after how this week went. Enjoy your evening, take good care, and Thanks, Tom.

  3. 5:49 That’s the shell of it.

MMC – I don’t think it will happen this time, but eventually it will happen.

MSNBC – Chris is absolutely correct, of course. I would call this American Exceptionalism – at its WORST.

People – Infidel had probably read the same Daily Kos article I had read, which indicated they are indeed using euthanized corpses in pet food. Also, that at least one pet had indeed died from this stuff (“non-lethal” claims notwithstanding.)

    TP – Barf indeed.

Cartoon – Well, those future dead children for future school swhootings have to come from somewhere. /s

I have just glanced at my email, and not even all of it, so I know there are new indictments, 13 IIRC, but nor for whom or for what, and I am dying to find out.

  4. RWMedia: Faux News and Paul Ryan, both full of excuses, lies, horses**t, and other people’s money!
    People: WTF?
TP: How about a chorus of other nasty men, all in gorgeous, matching orange jump suits?

  5. MM: The Republicans started to politicize mass shootings, or any shooting, the day the started accepting NRA slush money for their campaigns. ?

MSNBC: Paul Ryan is counting on the lack of knowledge of his audience on (knee-jerk) reflexes: with repeated stimulation they habituate, i.e. they die out. He knows that soon the American people habituate to seeing scenes of the aftermath of another bloody shooting on their TV screens; with the exception of family and friends of the victims, of course. It becomes normalized because Republicans won’t do anything about it, except make it worse. I pity any county where any shooting, let alone mass shooting, becomes the order of the “normal” day.

People: I’m so glad this is one thing I do not have to worry about here, our pet food being far more strictly regulated.

TP: I second the proposal Mitch put forward: “a chorus of other nasty men, all in gorgeous, matching orange jump suits”, but I don’t want to wait for the next Olympics to see that. Hurry up, Mr. Muller, the Drumpf team is ready for you.

Hope you got a good night’s sleep to make up for the nap you missed due to all the hard labor WWWendy had you put in, TomCat.

  6. Puzzle — 4:31  That looks like someone getting a swirly!

Media Matters — Every time there is another mass shooting, Republicans say this is not the right time to discuss gun laws, a very political issue.  Further, they accuse Democrats of politicising the tragedies.  But by the time the next tragedy comes along, nothing has been done . . . nothing is even on the radar.  I think the Republican strategy is ‘if we don’t discuss it, people will forget about it and the NRA money will still flow to us for our campaigns’.  And of course, Republicans don’t give a rip about the lives destroyed by gun violence!  I wonder what would happened if one of their children or grandchildren were a victim in a mass shooting.  Would that change their perspective at all?  As I said yesterday, Drumpf and Republicans have blood on their hands and are complicit in the murders of every person killed in mass shootings.  This is not about the 2nd amendment.  It is about the right to live, and I am not talking about the abortion issue which is a whole different topic.

MSNBC — I stand by what I just said above.  Drumpf, Ryan and all Republicans are thugs, and they don’t even try to hide in sheep’s clothing!

People — I can’t say the same as Lona since Canada does so much cross-border trade.  This is absolutely unconscionable!  People might remember that a few years ago, there was a fracas about pet food that had melamine in it and some animals died.  That food was found to use some ingredients that came from China.  I am very happy with what I feed my furbabies — Royal Canin — which I get from the vet’s office.  He has actually toured the plant where it is made and observed their protocols.  Also, he is their godfather so he has a vested interest.  If something happens to me, all 3 will go to live with him for the remainder of their natural lives.  He loves them, and they love him which makes vet visits really easy.

Think Progress — “Fuhrer Drumpfenfarten is so jealous of Kim Jong Un! He wants his own nubile “Army of Beauties” wearing MAGA hats and waving Nazi flags.” — Now that’s an idea I would subscribe to!  But my advice to South Korean politicians: Beware of North Korean wolves in sheep’s clothing!

Cartoon — Yup!  And I agree with JD’s comment too.

I woke up to snow again this morning, although it looks wetter than the last dump.  You just had to mention the dreaded task didn’t you!  That reminds me that I have a shit load of laundry to do.

  7. Thanks all.  Pooped Hugs! ?
