It’s another extremely muggy day with record temps forecast, and I’m praying for the weekend to arrive before I melt.  Please excuse my brevity.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 4:06 (average 5:43).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From YouTube: Abraham * Martin and John *** Dion

JD reminded me. This still makes me tear-up when I hear it. RESIST!!

From YouTube (MSNBC Channel): With Mike Pence In Front Row, Pastor Rips Into Donald Trump

Amen to that Pastor! How I would have loved to see that racist pseudo-Christian’s red face! RESIST!!

From Think Progress: More U.S adults are without insurance now than before President Donald Trump took office. The uninsured rate was 12.2 percent at the end of 2017, up 1.3 percentage points from the record low of 10.9 percent at the end of 2016, or the end of President Barack Obama’s final term in office, according to a Gallup national survey released Tuesday.

According to Gallup, the 1.3 point increase is an estimated 3.2 million Americans who became uninsured in 2017. Young, Black, Latinx, and low-income residents saw the largest increases in the uninsured rate; Black and Latinx residents saw the biggest shift, with 2.3 and 2.2 point increases respectively. This isn’t too surprising because people of color saw greater gains in coverage than white residents under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) — although they’re still more likely to be uninsured.

This seemingly modest increase is the largest single-year increase Gallup and Sharecare have documented since it started in 2008.

RepubliCare kills! RESIST!!

  1. MSNBC: Well-spoken, Pastor. We need lots and lots more Christians like you – and lots fewer phonies who give their professed faith a rotten name.

TP: I feel fortunate that I still have my Obamacare. Without it, I couldn’t get coverage.

Cartoon: Indeed! Anybody who thinks that global warming is not real hasn’t heard that roads in Australia are melting because of the extreme heat down there.

  2. 5:36  Vroom vroom.

    New (copyrighted) cartoon

Dion – Me too.  I didn’t mean to make you tear up – but it was probably worth it. (Of course you exposed my misquotes, but I was going purely from memory, and I really wasn’t too far off.)

Pencildick – I understand it got very red (his face).  One thing about being really white, it’s impossible to hide embarrassment (I assume it was that, and not shame, since he has none.)

TP – OK, part of that was the hit lower income people took to their subsidies and premiums (premia?).  But another big part of that was the Republicans broadcasting that Obamacare was gone even while it was taking enrollments.  Republicans kill.  It’s a feature, not a bug.

    Cartoon – No words.

BTW, CREDO has an article up on making protest signs. They have the Women’s March in mind, but many of the tips would apply to any protest.

  3. YT: Listened to this all the time, back in the day. Applicable today, as it was then. Thanks, JD & Tom.

MSNBC: Great sermon, thank you, Pastor for your words!! Pence considers himself sacrosanct, but he, indeed, is just as evil (or worse than), as his boss.

TP: I have family members on ACA. So far, so good. (fingers crossed)!

Cartoon: I saw the video of the dying bear, broke my heart. (National Geographic), it’s real, and the damage to the environment and animals will continue for their greed to slay the land and waters. It’s quite depressing, really.

We had freezing rain here, schools closed, and I would probably think so tomorrow as well, as it is supposed to continue till Thursday. Hope that you find a break in your weather. Take good care, and Thanks, Tom.

  4. Abraham, Martin and John is too piercing for me at this time, marvelous as iy is.
YT/MSNBC: So well said!  I expect that pseudo-Christian Pence went right to Donny Boy, with his report card about this event, this church, this Pastor.  I will not even try to imagine what Donny Boy’s response might have been!  I will tamp down any intuitive thoughts about it.
TP: Republicans lie, manipulate, scam, kill, and go laughing, all the way to the bank.
‘Toon: And Rumples**t says that the recent cold weather is proof that the global warming claims are false!  I say that his saying that is further proof (but who, here, really needs that) that he is a danger too the country, and the world.

  5. Puzzle — 4:27  I was having too much fun doing wheelies to catch up with you!

YouTube — A favourite of mine too, although I have not listened to it for some time.  I was 11.5 when JFK was assassinated and I can still remember where I was and what I was wearing when we received the news.

MSNBC — Was Pence’s red face caused by embarrassment, or by anger hearing the litany of adjectives used to describe Drumpf and his words?  Dr Watson’s words were well said and so accurate.  I noted though that he referred to Drumpf’s “alleged” words.

Think Progress — I wish Americans had medical insurance like we do in Canada.  Effective 01/01/2018 my healthcare premiums dropped to $37.50 per month and everyone MUST be covered.  I am not saying our system is perfect because it is not, but it is a damn sight better than the US’s system, especially now that you are moving to Republicare.

Cartoon — Too bad that wasn’t Drumpf and all Republicans out on that ice floe.

  6. YT: That brought back so many memories; that song was the background to my budding conscious rebellion against the Right. Too many good men and women have died too young and not of natural causes, Mandela is the only one that springs to my mind now who lived to see what he’d accomplished.

MSNBC: Kudos to the gutsy Pastor; I hope he got to see that bright red face under a mop of white hair as a reward. Kudos too to MSNBC for showing this clip and their conclusion to it:

There’s no silver lining, there’s no upside to degradation, but there are those right now who are seeking to uplift. It’s good for us to listen to them.

TP: Drumpf and his administration are always riding high on good economy and job figures which can still be attributed to their predecessors, but I’m sure there will be not a peep from the White House, or GOP, about these scaring numbers, the largest single-year increase in people without health insurance, which can be solely attributed to Drumpf and the Republican’s interfering with Obamacare last year.
Sometimes it’s a very good thing that the pox have been eradicated, and my incantations of wishing them on someone are to no avail.

Cartoon: For me the image of the emaciated, dying polar bear will always be iconic for 2017. My heart weeps for that animal and for all creatures, including man, who will suffer a similar fate in the coming years because of our own greed.

  7. Thanks all!  Hugs! 19
