It’s yet another muggy day here, and I’d like to catch a holiday nap, but I want to post for MLK Day.  To do otherwise would be… Republican.  Since the situation this year is the same but worse, I’m recycling last year’s lead article, because I don’t know how to improve it.  Have a safe holiday.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:25 (average 8:29).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From YouTube (Parody Project Channel): "— — —," a parody inspired by "The Thing."

Thanks to JD for introducing me to their work.  I hope I live to see the — — — join Sturmbannführer Scalia and ol’ Split-foot. RESIST!!

From Media Matters: National Review’s Rich Lowry defends Trump’s racist comments as "common sense on immigration"

Lowry: "These countries he was referring to, they are basket cases. They are disaster areas"

Click through for video, if you dare. National Review is a standard Republican site. They aren’t even openly alt-right. Racism is just a Republican norm. RESIST!!

From NY Times: The bipartisan group of senators, including Mr. Durbin and Mr. Graham, reached an agreement last week that would provide a path to citizenship for DACA recipients while also providing money for border security and making other changes to immigration policy.

But Mr. Trump dismissed the proposal, calling it a “big step backwards.” And on Sunday, he offered a pessimistic take on Twitter, writing that DACA was “probably dead” and blaming Democrats. He kept up the finger-pointing when he spoke to reporters on Sunday night.

“We’re ready, willing and able to make a deal on DACA, but I don’t think the Democrats want to make a deal,” Mr. Trump said. “And the folks from DACA should know the Democrats are the ones that aren’t going to make a deal.”

When the Fuhrer says Democrats don’t want to make a deal, after they already made one in which they were giving up too much, he is lying. Trump is the one who refused that deal. He wants to blame Democrats unless we cave-in. RESIST!!

  1. 5:08  I can see why.  I had a little blind dumb luck (very little).

    New (copyrighted) cartoons

Parody Project – YVW!  So glad you found this one; I hadn’t seen it yet.  I would have thought — … -… myself, but maybe they were thinking of a sssnake sssound.)

MM – I stand by the Che quote and analogy I posted yesterday myself.

NYT – Tom Cotton clearly spelled out their position.  However, Jon Favreau has some counter-advice.

Cartoon – Lift every voice and sing it!

  2. “Common sense” immigration my ass! More than 80 years ago, people used similar excuses not to take in Jews who were fleeing the Nazis.

  3. PP: Lively number, and very good. Knock! Knock! Knock!! 😉

MM: Unreal. This guy mansplaining is not the way to go. These id’s can’t/won’t stand up to the disconnected nincompoop, and then go on tv and lie/coverup his racial bias! Unreal !!!!

NYT: What a mean pos for saying/doing this!!

    Cartoon: AMEN!!

Hope that you have a relaxing evening, and take good care, and Thanks, Tom.

  4. Puzzle — 4:44 I guess Puddy Tat you like playing whack-a-mole with balls.  Would they be Republican by any chance?

Parody Project — I like the vid JD posted yesterday and I like this one.  Between these fellows, Randy Rainbow and others, Drumpf is getting the attention he so richly deserves . . . only I don’t think it is the kind he had in mind!  Drumpf would be nothing if it weren’t for the Republican choir thirsting for power and greed failing to do the work of the People and oust this perversion of a POTUS.  I must saw that I doubt I’ll be able to look at an ear of corn again after they compared his hair to corn silk.

Media Matters — Well I dared to watch the video.  Kudos to the one interviewer who kept challenging Lowry.  His attempts at normalising Drumpf and racism were and are despicable.  This is not “common sense on immigration”.  This is racism, pure and simple!  I also might add that these countries, which Lowry referred to as “basket cases”, were raped and pillaged by western corporations, aided and abetted by greedy leaders.  Is that common sense now?

NY Times — Drumpf’s definition of negotiate and bipartisan is my way or the highway.  That pretty well goes for Republicans too.  And like always, Drumpf blames Democrats rather than acknowledging he, the Racist-in-Chief, is responsible for the failure of a renewed DACA after a plan was put in place, although a plan not w/o great concessions by the Democrats.

Cartoon — And all God’s children sing AMEN!!!  I am surprised that the Racist-in-Chief has not signed an executive order undoing MLK Jr Day.

  5. PP: The only thing good to come out of the (hopefully very short) Drumpf era is an abundance of excellent comedy talent. If The Resistance finally gets rid of Drumpf and his henchmen groups of people like the Parody Project will be the only sane ones to know a very short burst of sorrow at Drumpf’s political and business demise.

MM: Lynn has said it all and very eloquently, and making the point that the countries that Rich(!) Lowry so generously describes as basket cases are in their dire situation because of first colonial exploitation and now exploitation by global corporations. And unless the rich nations responsible for the situation, having much of their riches made by this gruesome exploitation, accept that unless they help to develop the local economies for the sake of the people living in those “shithole countries” and not for their own benefit, those people want to immigrate to rich countries to lead a life fit for a human being.

NYT: The backbone of Democrats wasn’t as strong as we had hoped for and they nearly had made a deal with Republicans despite all, but Drumpf, the great deal-maker, said it wasn’t good enough. Democrats should be used to being blamed for making the sun go down at night by now, so we can only hope their backbones do not crumble further and they will not give in this time. The sun will go down no matter what, but they need to remember Democrats could be the ones to make it rise again.

    • I keep remembering this quote from Drumpf and it appalls me!

It would not surprise me if his definition of racism is about the white world being discriminated against, which is, as we know, a pile of bullshit!  In actual fact, racism is about discrimination against any race not one’s own.  Of course, in North America, that means against any person not white.

      A new portrait of Drumpf:

  6. Thanks all.  Worn out hugs. 19
