A Veiled Threat

Many journalists are talking about Trump’s recent interview with the NY Times, as accepting and agreeable, suggesting that trump will do nothing to interfere with the Mueller investigation into him and his co-conspirators.  Sadly, those journalists either do not know how to or are unwilling to interpret Republican Lies.

Trump-Nazi1

President Trump said Thursday that he believes Robert S. Mueller III, the special counsel in the Russia investigation, will treat him fairly, contradicting some members of his party who have waged a weekslong [sic] campaign to try to discredit Mr. Mueller and the continuing inquiry.

During an impromptu 30-minute interview with The New York Times at his golf club in West Palm Beach, the president did not demand an end to the Russia investigations swirling around his administration, but insisted 16 times that there has been “no collusion” discovered by the inquiry.

“It makes the country look very bad, and it puts the country in a very bad position,” Mr. Trump said of the investigation. “So the sooner it’s worked out, the better it is for the country.”

Asked whether he would order the Justice Department to reopen the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s emails, Mr. Trump appeared to remain focused on the Russia investigation.

I have absolute right to do what I want to do with the Justice Department,” he said, echoing claims by his supporters that as president he has the power to open or end an investigation. “But for purposes of hopefully thinking I’m going to be treated fairly, I’ve stayed uninvolved with this particular matter.”… [emphasis added]

Inserted from <NY Times>

Ari Melber discussed the interview with David Frum, Wendy Sherman, and Natasha Bertrand.

Here’s the bottom line.  This is nothing but a veiled threat to Muller that, if the ongoing results are not what Trump wants to see (considers fair), he will no longer have a reason not to invoke absolute right to do what he wants with the Justice Department. There it is.

RESIST THE REPUBLICAN REICH!!

  1. I have absolute right to do what I want to do with the Justice Department

said every tyrant, every despot, every dictator ever, in every language, in every latitude and longitude, throughout human history.

  2. I second !!! Joanne’s well written comment.
    Yes, RESIST every.single.day!!!

  3. As run by Koch money, despite tDump’s B.S.about not being beholden to anybody (Deutsche Bank anyone? Putin, anyone else?), the rethugs will press him to fire Mueller.  Koch, and buddies, find compromise on anything anathema.  On the other hand, Pence lives in their pockets. But, they may not have to press too hard.!

  4. The Orange Ogre has no clue about checks and balances. As a business brute and spoiled brat, he was used to getting his way. Now he thinks that being POTUS makes him an absolute dictator. Thankfully, enough people are refusing to take his cr*p and standing up to him.

    RESIST and PERSIST!

  5. There’s absolutely no reason to believe a president who ‘s statements are three quarters lies an the rest denials or turn-rounds on previous statements. How can you believe a man who says he believes Mueller’s Special Council will treat him fairly when he insists that the Council has found no collusion 16 times.

The NYT journalists caught Drumpf on a good day, golfing instead of working, and not wound up over something he saw on Faux News that morning, so he had it reasonably together. For a dictator, that is, because when I hear a head of state claiming: “I have absolute right to do what I want to do with the Justice Department,” that invariably comes from a dictator’s mouth. I hope legal people on both sides will make it clear to Drumpf as soon as possible that he has certain rights, but abusing them would have him impeached and/or indicted.

  6. He thinks he was elected dictator.

  7. I’m not sure that the threat that is Drumpf is so veiled.  A few thoughts . . .

“… president did not demand an end to the Russia investigations swirling around his administration, but insisted 16 times that there has been “no collusion” discovered by the inquiry.”

16 times!!!  Is he trying to reassure the public . . . or himself?  He would not bring this up if it did not concern him.  And how does he know what information Mueller has?

““I have absolute right to do what I want to do with the Justice Department,” he said”

The words of a despot, an absolute ruler! … not unlike Kim Jong-Un or Putin.  Scary!  Somebody who quite obviously does not respect the rule of law.  Even Republicans should be wary.  If Kim is displeased, people disappear or are executed.  With Putin, things are not much different.

““‘Hey, let’s get together, let’s do bipartisan.’ I say, ‘Good, let’s go.’ Then you don’t hear from him again.””

Bipartisan?  Only as long as he gets his way!  Get him a dictionary! (He’ll never read it though.)

““Another reason that I’m going to win another four years is because newspapers, television, all forms of media will tank if I’m not there because without me, their ratings are going down the tubes,” “

He is filled with his own grandiosity and greed.  That’s how he measures everything.  That’s how he conducts business . . . and now politics.  I agree with Mitch . . . he needs a white padded cell for treatment of his extreme personality disorder and sociopath tendencies.

The Narcissist-in-Chief is a loose cannon that is setting the US on a dangerous course, and taking the rest of the world with it.

    • There’s a great cartoon which illustrates what Republican bipartisanship looks like … but if I posted it, what with losing net neutrality and all, PP would get banned.  But you can probably imagine it if I add that the donkey looks awfully small to bear the elephant’s weight.

    • Oh, and I forgot to mention one other point . . .

“Trump Says Russia Inquiry Makes U.S. ‘Look Very Bad’”

Hell, it is Drumpf that makes the US look very bad, not the investigation.  It is Drumpf who makes his 60 million plus supporters (not even a majority of the electorate!) look uneducated and stupid, and therefore the US look bad.  Why else would they vote for him!

And in case you didn’t get this the other times I have used it . . .

  8. Thanks and sticky hugs! 29
