It’s another sunny day, so once again, I’m fighting the difference between cold air and a hot radiating wall.  Sweating and chilling at the same time really tires me out.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:36 (average 5:07).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From Daily Kos: As Minnesota Sen. Al Franken announced Thursday that he would resign over sexual misconduct allegations, he also drew attention to the undeniable irony of his exit amid congressional Republicans’ continued allegiance to a self-professed assaulter and hearty embrace of a sexual predator.

I, of all people, am aware that there is some irony in the fact that I am leaving while a man who has bragged on tape about his history of sexual assault sits in the Oval Office, and a man who has repeatedly preyed on young girls campaigns for the Senate with the full support of his party. But this decision is not about me. It’s about the people of Minnesota.

Franken did the right thing by his constituency and the thirty-some Democratic senators who called on him to resign left him little choice.

We need more women in government. A woman’s place is in the House!  And it is in the Senate! And for Elizabeth Warren, it is in the White House! RESIST!!

From The New Yorker: In a new poll conducted on Wednesday, a sweeping majority of Americans said they support moving Donald J. Trump to Jerusalem.

The sixty-three per cent of survey respondents who approved relocating Trump to Jerusalem placed few conditions on such a move, other than that it take place “as soon as possible” and that it be “permanent.”

In other poll results, an overwhelming majority of respondents said that they would support relocating Trump to any number of other foreign destinations, including Russia, the Philippines, and “that station where scientists live at the South Pole.”

Andy, let him move to the origin of Ted Cruz: Uranus! RESIST!!

From TPM: Fresh off Project Veritas’ failed attempt to undermine the credibility of the Washington Post and other news outlets, the group’s leader, James O’Keefe, was honored as a “hero” Wednesday night by the conservative group United for Purpose.

O’Keefe accepted an “Impact Award” from Ginni Thomas, the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, at the Trump hotel in Washington, D.C.  [emphasis added]

Every pervert in the Supreme Court is one pervert too many. Impeach TEAbag Thomas for multiple conflicts of interest. RESIST!!

This was the most devastating attack by a foreign power in US history, until Russia attacked us in November 2016.

  1. 4:00  Wow, I wish we had that kind of serenity.  Maybe some day.

UltraViolet wants to make sure some of the big firms, especially in communications, know that WE KNOW that their gifts to the RNC are supporting pedophilia.

DKos – Actually Daily Kos is pretty divided on this issue.  I already said yesterday that there is going to be pain, and Franken resigning is indeed painful.  However, we will have to live with it.  It’s not effective immediately, so he’ll likely be around for the year-end votes, and his (thankfully Democratic) governor will have time to consider whom to appoint, and that person will be there at least through 2018 (the special election would coincide with the 2018 elections, with confirmation in January) and maybe longer.  Yes, I know it’s not the same thing.  It isn’t for me either.

TNY – Russia, yes.  The Philippines, absolutely.  South Pole, NEVER.  We don’t need his hot air around those fragile glaciers.

TPM – There is so much corruption to unpack here, it would take a week.  And that’s just to grasp it.  Court evidence would take longer.

Cartoon – Yes.  A DATE WHICH will live in infamy.

  2. DK: Listening to his C-span announcing his resignation. He did the right thing, but I sure wish that the rethugs would listen and take action to their own behavior towards women, and resign!! like dt.!!!! And, with that, Franken said, “I yield the floor.”

NYer: I vote a permanent status to Siberia. He (dt) deserves it.

TPM: UGH!! This should have been a BBA!!! ugh!!

Cartoon: So sad. “A date that will live in Infamy”. FDR.

    Has anyone seen/read this yet?

It’s 42 here, and wet/cold. Hope that you have a good evening, take care, and Thanks, Tom.

  3. Do you have a fan?  I think you need to move the air around in your room.  It is cold in one area and hot in the other.  You need to stir things up a bit.

  4. DK: Ironic indeed. As a Democrat Franken resigns at the request of his colleagues; had he been a Republican, his colleagues had hailed him in as “one of the boys”. Alabama voting Moore into the senate would set the clock even further back in a state where for Republicans the clock never showed the correct moral time.

TNY: Jerusalem will do fine for me, Andy. East Jerusalem, that is.

TPM: One more for the growing lists of impeachments: Clarence Thomas.

Cartoon: At least the Japanese never denied the attack…

  5. I’m glad to see Democrats refused to be hypocrites with double standards and went after Franken. Sexual harassment is a non-partisan issue.

Yesterday I took part in one of the protests against Verizon, in defense of net neutrality. The one I joined in Atlanta had over 60 people! We made a lot of noise, and got a lot of support – much honking and beeping, lots of thumbs up. No net neutrality, no Politics Plus. Keep up the fight, keep up the pressure!

  6. Puzzle — 3:59  Reminds me of the convent at Vaison-la-Romaine in Provence, France.  It is about 1,500 years old.  Very interesting architecture.

Daily Kos — Drumpf and Moore, and probably more, should follow suit for doing far more, but the Republicans will not.  After all, according to Moore, he practises Republican Bible family values.  As to more women in governance positions, I said a day ago or so, yet again, there would be less war, whether against groups or nations, with women at the helm.

The New Yorker — Sorry Andy, but Jerusalem is much too close!  I support moving him to the origin of Ted Cruz: Uranus!  I might even go further . . . Pluto or Alpha Centauri!

TPM — Truth win out . . . which does not include James O’Keefe and his ilk.

Cartoon — The first that shall live in infamy.  The second, 8 November 2016!  With the 2nd, even more people will be killed and it was orchestrated by an American.

  7. Thanks all!  TGIF Hugs! 17
