Dec 022017

Compared to October, November results were slightly down.  It was a shorter month with a four day holiday weekend.

Here is our latest summary:

The comparison with last November reveals that we have fewer unique visitors, but the ones we have are visiting more and reading more articles.  That’s a good thing, I think.

Here is our ClustrMap for 2017 Year to Date.

ClustrMap11-2017

ClustrMap misses a lot of visits, because many visits can’t be easily traced to a location.

Here are our top five articles:

National Popular Vote for the Reich 9/29/2017 2,654
Jane Smiley: Capitalist Pigs 1/17/2010 1,045
Samantha Bee from 11/8 11/9/2017 641
Open Thread – 11/12/2017 11/12/2017 414
Personal Update – 11/26/2017 11/26/2017 405

The count represents only the people who followed an external link to that specific article.  Three were from November.  Four were from this year.  All were from me.

Here are our top non-blog/news referrers (100 referral minimum):

Google 2,182
Care2  1,808
Stumbleupon 290
Facbook 187
Baidu 102

Google is down from October.   Care2 is down.  Stumbleupon is up. Facebook is up.  Baidu is down.

Here are our top  blog/news referrers:

We had 7 sites  with 2 or more referrals, up 3 from October.  Putting blogs’ links here increases the ratings of their sites, so this “linkey love” is our thank you for their referral support.  We need to improve this.

As of midnight December 1, we had 7,823 articles and 94,215 comments.

Congrats to SoINeedAName, aka Nameless, for posting the 94,000th comment.

I recommend using your own avatar. Go to Gravatar.  Sign up using the email address you use to post comments here and upload the image you want to use as your avatar.  Whenever you comment under that email address here or on any WordPress blog (several others too), that image will become your avatar.

Your Administrators are Lynn Squance, aka Sasquatch or Squatch, SoINeedAName, aka Nameless, and I, aka TomCat, the Founder.  Your Editors are Joanne Dixon, aka JD the Erynator and Lona Goudswaard, aka Lona the Napster.  I  promoted them from Author in August to give them the ability to add graphics to comments and the ability to correct my innumerable typos.

This is our policy on links.  We do not embed links to extreme Republican websites, like Faux Noise, Breitfart or World Nut Daily.  However I leave notes in square brackets when I delete such links, (example: [faux noise delinked]) so readers, who wish to follow them can click through to the source article.  I also remove topical links.  Finally, I blank the target on all links, so they open in a new tab or window.

Thank you for all you do, everywhere you do it.

We have huge fights ahead, especially since the Republican Tax SCAM just passed the Senate.  And we have lost one of our premiere guiding lights.  Keith Olbermann retired.  To honor him and hold him up as an example for us to follow, here is his very first resistance video, published on 11/16/2016.

  1. Aside from October, it looks like the month with the most unique visitors was March, and the other measures (except the number of visits) were not all that high.  Interesting.  I’ll have to go look at the March posts.

  2. Care2 has been very fickle lately and the referrals are going down each month. I’ve noticed some of our steady readers like Terry and Arielle haven’t been on Care2/PP for a long time, and others haven’t been able to join due to health problems. But new names also started making regular appearances so all in all your following a steady course, TomCat.

Thanks for all the hard work, keep it up because the Resistance needs you, but don’t exhaust yourself!

  3. Thank you, Tom, for your meticulous recording of the numbers, and for what you do every day. I sure do appreciate you and the other administrators at this site.
Also, Thank you, for the #1 of KO. His words echo my feelings, point on….

  4. Ohhh! Keith has retired? Oh, NO! He was such a GREAT writer and dem! Without him, things will get most dull! Surely he will keep doing his Resistance videos!
Thanks once again to ALL who wished me a happy birthday! I really do enjoy my time with this bunch of nuts here!
And TomCat, don’t beat me TOO bad this weekend! I have most of my team with some kind of injury or practice designation on just about EVERY person in my team! Didn’t notice it til today and have been doing a LOT of switching just to make sure I will have SOMEONE on the field in each slot!
See ya tomorrow on FF, TC!

  5. As I’ve noted numerous times before, I LUV the ClustrMap

This time I really zoomed in, and they actually got pretty close – BUT it’s to my old home of > 10 years ago.

I suspect once they have your ISP address, they just keep it – even after you’ve moved.

    • I think Clustrmap gives the location of the local tower/server you connect to and which handles all your internet activities. Mine apparently is across the river in another province and when I’m in Oz I’ve seemed to have moved almost 200 km closer to the coast. No local handling in the Outback.

  6. Keith: Never saw that one before, and boy, do I love it!
That’s what my idiot cousin said, and my idiot neighbor in Florida said, “Give him a chance.” Well, the only “chance” in which he is interested, is the one to destroy the things most valuable in the country.  That was very obvious as soon as he started to pick his cess pool of a cabinet; chance over within two weeks of winning, or false oathing, whichever it was.
Here is the reason I see for my cousin, who thinks of her childhood as deprived…in middle class Queens, N.Y., in the ’50’s and ’60’s, in a family that zoned two cars, one brand new, in 1964:
    5. Relative deprivation
Relative deprivation refers to the experience of being deprived of something to which one believes they are entitled. It is the discontent felt when one compares their position in life to others who they feel are equal or inferior but have unfairly had more success than them.
Common explanations for Trump’s popularity among non-bigoted voters involve economics. There is no doubt that some Trump supporters are simply angry that American jobs are being lost to Mexico and China, which is certainly understandable, although these loyalists often ignore the fact that some of these careers are actually being lost due to the accelerating pace of automation.
These Trump supporters are experiencing relative deprivation, and are common among the swing states like Ohio, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. This kind of deprivation is specifically referred to as “relative,” as opposed to “absolute,” because the feeling is often based on a skewed perception of what one is entitled to. For example, an analysis conducted by FiveThirtyEight estimated that the median annual income of Trump supporters was $72,000.
If such data is accurate, the portrayal of most Trump supporters as “working class” citizens rebelling against Republican elites may be more myth than fact.

  7. Thanks all.  Hurried Hugs! 24
