Manafarted!

Here is some news that millions of us have awaited since the day Robert Mueller began his investigation into how Trump helped Putin hand him the White House and related Republican crimes.  He has issued first two indictments, both with multiple severe counts.  One is against Paul Manafart.  The other is against his principle aide.  TC is doing a one-legged happy dance.

Former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort and his longtime business partner Rick Gates have been charged in a 12-count indictment with conspiracy against the United States, conspiracy to launder money and making false statements.

It marked the first criminal allegations to come from Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller III’s investigation into possible coordination between the Trump campaign and Russia to influence the 2016 election.

Gates did not respond to a request for comment, nor did Jason Maloni, a spokesman for Manafort. Manafort was spotted walking into the FBI’s Washington Field Office Monday morning.

Here’s a video clip from MSNBC:

The only disappointing factor is that there are no charges directly related to the Trump Campaign, but there is enough that is indirectly related that I think Manafart will save himself many years in prison by testifying against the Fuhrer, his foul brood, and his Reich.

This will be out of date before it is published.

  1. Looks like Mitch was the all-seeing oracle who predicted on Saturday it would be Manafort on Monday.  Well, not quite ALL-seeing.  He didn’t include Gates.  But IIRC TomCat predicted Manafort would fall first before we even knew there were indictments (though even he didn’t mention Gates.)  Awesome, you guys.  From the full indictment:
    COUNT ONE: Conspiracy against US
COUNT TWO:   Conspiracty to launder money
COUNT THREE: Manafort: Failure to file foreign bank reports 2011
COUNT FOUR: Manafort: Failure to file foreign bank reports 2012
COUNT FIVE: Manafort: Failure to file foreign bank reports 2013
COUNT SIX: Manafort: Failure to file foreign bank reports 2014
COUNT SEVEN: Gates: Failure to file foreign bank reports 2011
COUNT EIGHT: Gates: Failure to file foreign bank reports 2012
COUNT NINE: Gates: Failure to file foreign bank reports 2013
    COUNT TEN: Unregistered Foreigh Agent
    COUNT ELEVEN: False FARA statements
    COUNT TWELVE: False Statements
Yes, I could have made that shorter, or let you look it up, but it’s such a sight for sore eyes!

The only thing I have to add is that Papadoloupos has PLED GUILTY to LYING TO THE FBI and has specifically brought Trump’s name into the case in connection with Russia!  Woo-hoo!

  2. Meanwhile, from the White House, the usual deny and deflect; But Hillary, but etc., ad nauseam, ad infinitum.

  3. Yep!! Kudos !!! Mitch and TC!! for predicting, and scoring!

I too, believe that Manafort/Gates will testify against dt, to lessen their sentences. Perhaps..just a thought here….Mueller is starting on the circumference of the circle, and working inwards, thereby saving dt for last?

Thanks, Joanne for the run-down. I read all of it this morning. Mind boggling!! Also read about Papadoloupos having pled guilty. Lordy, I’m on Cloud Nine! Or…as I like to say….running a home run with the Astros!! WooHoo!

  4. I have to keep checking my calendar to see which Holiday we’re supposed to be celebrating …

And I personally think the George Papadopoulos plea deal is a bigger story.  The Manafort counts for the most part relate to older crimes.  There was some statute of limitations issues that drove the Manafort announcement, so no doubt there will be more coming w/ closer ties to Trump.

But highly unlikely Papadopoulos got a plea deal unless he brought something of import to the table.

PLUS the gifts look like they’re going to keep on coming  …

    • I agree on Papadopoulos.  The court docket news is SPLENDID.  It may not be Christmas yet … but it looks like we can count on Hallowe’en treats.  (Tricks from the White House, but not from Mueller.  Does anyone want to discuss Podesta?  Not John, his brother.)

  5. AMEN!!!!!

I read about Papadopoulos yesterday evening and my immediate thought was that Muëller was very shrewd in concealing the Papadopoulos deal since it was made 05/10/2017.  There was no political theatre other than the daily Drumpf and Republican grind until last Friday.  Of course that set Drumpf on a Twitter tear and then again today when the charges were announced.  I also think these are just the beginning since these are old financial crimes.  It will be interesting to see if Manafart rolls over on Drumpf.  I hope he does!

I think we can expect to hear Drumpf continue with his “lock her up” diatribe even more than before as he tries to deflect away from the allegations of collusion with Russia.

  6. Here are some interesting numbers on the difference between Republican and Democratic presidencies.
    https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2017/1/11/1619079/-Comparing-Presidential-Administrations-by-Arrests-and-Convictions-A-Warning-for-Trump-Appointees
    210 republican indictments
    3 Democratic indictments

    • Gee, Jerry, do you think that says something about the party differences, or what?  Thanks!

    • Thanks for  this excellent article Jerry.  This partial summation of the Drumpf family issues is interesting.  It seems the emperor has no clothes!

Time will tell, but I would not be surprised if this new administration sets records for the number of indictments, convictions, and prison sentences. Controlling the Justice Department and Congress won’t be enough to insulate them from prosecution. And it’s quite possible that members of his own family are risk of criminal liability if more is investigated about Don Jr.’s secret meetings with Russian officials during the campaign, or his son-in-law Jared Kushner’s own conflicts of interest, including pursuing a business deal just weeks after the election with a Chinese company that had already been blocked from doing business in the U.S., after his role in the administration was already being discussed, which was finally officially announced a few days ago. Before the next four years are over, we could have another president resign in the face of impeachment, particularly if the public disgust grows great enough for Democrats to defy odds and retake the House and Senate in 2018. But since this president seems impervious to shame, he may well try to weather the storm, which could well result in the first impeachment and conviction and involuntary removal from office of a sitting president. (And if that happens, will Pence pardon Trump the way Ford pardoned Nixon? I guess it depends on whether he sees greater opportunity with Trump’s rabid base or with more mainstream voters.)

    • OMG, Jerry, thank you for this!  I had seen it and thought I had bookmarked it and have been unable to find it!  Now I will make sure to put it where I can find it again!  Thank you, thank you, thank you!

    • Most enlightening.  Thanks Jerry! 04

  7. Fantastic!
    Fantastic!
Joanne, many thanks for the run-own!  tRump will bloviate, maybe pull out his golden locks, and, hopefully EXPLODE!
Pat, I think you are right, that Mueller is going to work his way in.  I was thinking similarly…that he will put out those cases, one after another,  that will ineluctably lead to the rot at the center!
Hey, it’s Christmas for me…went to the gym with such vigor this morning, after reading the news!!

  8. Both the Manafort/Gates and Papadopoulos stories were hot news here too and all the news channels I followed had the same remark: the indictments aren’t Drumpf related, not yet, but all expect those to follow in the future. And all expect to see a lot of Tweets coming out of the White House as the Liar-in-Chief continues in his meltdown. For once I hope Kelly doesn’t take Drumpf’s toy away and stop him from incriminating himself. I also hope Mueller doesn’t take too long getting down to those who really count, because Drumpf in meltdown isn’t something to take lightly; he will lash out at some innocents to divert and hurt others as much as he can in retaliation. Let’s hope his family cops it on the chin first.

  9. “Hot Diggity Dog!”, it has started! (The Indictments)

  10. Thanks all.  As I said in the last line before the RESIST banner, the article was obsolete, before I published it.
