Oct 062017

Compared to July and August, September results were mixed.  Hopefully, we shall improve, since the things that have interfered with my writing are being resolved.

Here is our ClustrMap for 2017 Year to Date.

ClustrMap9-2017

ClustrMap misses a lot of visits, because many visits can’t be easily traced to a location..

Here are our top five articles:

Jane Smiley: Capitalist Pigs 1/17/2010 639
Open Thread – 8/7/2017 8/7/2017 479
Trump Shamed Us All! 9/20/2017 246
Open Thread – 2/14/2017 3/14/2017 229
The Next Anti-Fuhrer 9/3/2017 198

The count represents only the people who followed an external link to that specific article.  Two were from September.  Four were from this year.  All were from me.

Here are our top non-blog/news referrers (100 referral minimum):

Google 2,095
Care2 2,025
Baidu 1,637
Stumbleupon 217

Google is up from July.  Baidu is way up.  Stumbleupon was down and Care2 was way down.

Here are our top  blog/news referrers:

http://wildgoosescoopsmoon.blogspot.com/
http://swashzone.blogspot.com/

We had 7 sites  with 2 or more referrals, unchanged from July.  Putting blogs’ links here increases the ratings of their sites, so this “linkey love” is our thank you for their referral support.

As of midnight October 1, we had 7,691 articles and 92,732 comments.

Congrats to Joanne Dixon, aka JD, for posting the 92,000th comment.

I recommend using your own avatar. Go to Gravatar.  Sign up using the email address you use to post comments here and upload the image you want to use as your avatar.  Whenever you comment under that email address here or on any WordPress blog (several others too), that image will become your avatar.

Your Administrators are Lynn Squance, aka Sasquatch or Squatch, SoINeedAName, aka Nameless, and I, aka TomCat, the Founder.  Your Editors are Joanne Dixon, aka JD the Erynator and Lona Goudswaard, aka Lona the Napster.  I  promoted them from Author in August to give them the ability to add graphics to comments and the ability to correct my innumerable typos.

This is our policy on links.  We do not embed links to extreme Republican websites, like Faux Noise, Breitfart or World Nut Daily.  However I leave notes in square brackets when I delete such links, (example: [faux noise delinked]) so readers, who wish to follow them can click through to the source article.  I also remove topical links.  Finally, I blank the target on all links, so they open in a new tab or window.

I hope that things will pick up now that summer is over, people will be spending more time on their computers.  I shall be devoting no time to heat waves and less time medical mayhem.  And Care2 seems to finally have a handle on that horrible Glitch Monster.

Fewer of us have survived nine months of Putin’s Puppet and his Republican Reich, due to inept responses to storms, cuts in Medicaid, and more gun deaths.  During that time he has still failed to sign any major legislation.  That’s still your fault.  Your efforts to educate others and expose his insane policies to the light of day have frustrated him at every turn.  Kudos to you all!  And special kudos to you for saving the ACA from a Republican another onslaught that almost succeeded! Keep up the fantastic work!  Thank you for all that you do, here and elsewhere!

  1. A lot of work goes into this reporting!
    Thanks, Tom for posting.

  2. The Orange Empty has turned the screws on women and reproductive rights, on the GBLTQI world, and will continue to do so as long as he is occupying the WH!  Mueller’s people have, reportedly, interviewed the person who put together the Russian dossier, and, while I am glad he is, perhaps obsessively, and thoroughly, preparing to turn his set of screws…man it is taking a long time!

  3. I’m sure you saw this, but some of us may have missed it.  If Google has changed its algorithms so much that AlterNet is hurting, it’s going to have to effect smaller sites too.

    • Thanks!

I hadn’t seen that, and it’s sad reading.

Can’t say I don’t use, and appreciate, Google’s search engine on a daily basis.  But I always thought their “Don’t Be Evil” corporate mantra was more window dressing than anything else.

      This pretty much proves it.

And do NOT get me started on Zuckerberg & Facebook – which I NEVER joined and have NO intention of joining … EVAH!

      • Of course, the problem with “don’t be evil” is that, in order to do it, you have to know what evil is and looks like.  Sigh.  There is a real problem, and it’s possible that this was a genuine attempt to tackle it.  But it certainly didn’t.

And Zuckerberg gives a bad name to everything he comes in contact with, starting with sugar and mountains. wink

    • It is sad reading.  However, if anything, Google referrals to PP have been steadily increasing.

  4. I am certain that numbers will improve now that summer is over and you are settling in to less medical mayhem.  Also, some extreme weather is likely to have played havoc to a degree.  PP is a good place to be!

I am convinced that somewhere out there, a class is using Jane Smiley: Capitalist Pigs 1/17/2010 since it has been consistently your top article each month for several years at least.

  5. Numbers look quite steady, which is not bad at all with Care2 dysfunctional again for a few days (probably the reason for the low number of Care2 referrals). Remember, TomCat, that as long as Drumpf is wreaking havoc on America, you’re up against an awful lot of competition from a growing number of sites. I just browsed through my weekend newspaper and it’s amazing how many articles are about Drumpf or about America, even here. It all adds to the Drumpf fatigue setting in, I’m afraid.

  6. Thanks all!  Hugs!! 12

  7. Good report, TC. Glad I made it to another one!
Just watched my #3 Sooners lose to an unranked Iowa State. ? ? ?! We had an 18 game winning streak and it has put me in a woeful mood.
    Thanks, TC!
