The sun has returned, and it hit the wall this morning, so I had to button up and turn on the AC again.  Starting tomorrow, we have a two day heat wave, but a couple 85° days is a lot more bearable than a couple weeks at or near 100°.  I tried a Quicken replacement.  It screwed the pooch.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:07 (average 4:34).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

From YouTube (GQ Channel): We Will Not Stand for Trump

I could not have said it better. In a wheelchair, nobody asks me to stand anymore, but I would put my hand on a shoulder, or if I had someone to help me back up, I would take a knee. RESIST!!

From The Rachel Maddow Show: Trump dangerous bellicosity raises nuclear war risk with N. Korea

Joe Cirincione, MSNBC nuclear security analyst, talks with Rachel Maddow about how Donald Trump’s insult-comic threats against North Korea have only escalated the threat of war with North Korea.

We are closer to nuclear war than we have been at any time since the Cuban Missile Crisis, because the greater idiot took a break from tweets applauding Nazis and tweets demeaning women to provoke the lesser idiot. RESIST!!

From Upworthy: Down Under, Bernardi is known for, among other things, pushing climate change denial, vehemently opposing LGBTQ rights, and calling proponents of abortion access "pro-death."

So, at face value, a tweet he published on Sept. 20 probably wasn’t all that surprising.

"This gender morphing is really getting absurd," Bernardi said, linking to a story about a school in South Australia holding a "Wear a Dress Day."

The first problem with Bernardi’s tweet is that it’s wildly transphobic. The second problem is that it … sort of totally missed the whole point of what "Wear a Dress Day" actually is.

"Wear a Dress Day" has nothing to do with any sort of LGBTQ awareness campaign like Bernardi’s tweet suggests. It’s about girls’ education.

Student leaders at Craigburn Primary School near Adelaide had chosen to support One Girl’s Do It in a Dress campaign on their last day of term — a day in which students are typically allowed to wear casual clothes to class.

Students who want to wear casual clothing can certainly still do so. But, in recognition of the campaign, students of all genders are also allowed to wear dresses — only if they wish to do so — to boost awareness of girls’ lack of access to education globally, a blog post by the school points out.

Condolences to my Oz friends, because you clearly have Republicans on your side of the world too. RESIST!!

  1. 3:49  That’s odd – there’s not a melting watch in sight.

I coudn’t support Larry Lessig as a Presidential candidate.  i might be able to support his proposed lawsuit.  Opinions?

I’m throwing in a remark about #124, which somehow got lost in the shuffle.
Keith # 124 – Just the old Republican double standard.  OK, we have not seen it this extreme before, but this is the natural goal of all double standards.  It’s what happens if, finding it too difficult to discern good from evil, people fall back on hierarchy to make that determination.

Keith # 125 – Oh, yeah.  I am all over this.  Which is no revelation to anyone here, of course.  Keith makes it very clear.

Rachel – The Washington Post in a “trending now” update, says

Kim Jong Un’s regime has been quietly trying behind the scenes to get a better understanding of President Trump. In the absence of official diplomatic talks, North Korean government officials have sought private meetings with leading figures from prominent Washington think tanks.

One thing Pyongyang wants to know: Why do Trump’s top Cabinet officers keep contradicting him?

They know we have a crazy man, and we knoe we have a crazy man, and we know they have a crazy man, and they know they have a crazy man.  If we are saved, it will be by civil servants.  In both countries.  Thank God for civil servants.

Upworthy – You know, another thing Republicans claim about progressives is that we have “knee-jerk” responses.  Well, if this wasn’t a “knee-jerk” response, I don’t know what would be.  I don’t believe Oz celebrates Hallowe’en, at least not with Trick or Treating, but anyone who wants to scare the pants off Bernardi now knows all you need to do is yell, “DRESS !!”

Cartoon – Well, it might be OK without that, but it’s certainly better with /Sfn

  2. KO: Excellent !!! One of Keith’s best! Love this, and sharing this to friends.

RMS: Not concerned, this is frightening!!

UpWorthy: How mean! Loved the tweets, btw, and pictures! A real treat 😉

    Cartoon: Oh, how sad!

*SHOUTOUT to Congresswoman Sheila Lee (TX)., for taking the knee on the House floor in defense of the 1st amendment! WooHoo!! WTG!

Sorry about your Quicken replacement. Hope that you have a relaxing evening, take care, and Thanks, Tom.

  3. Gee whiz! It sounds like tRump has a twin down under! Man! I wish we could tell you how to get rid of the idiot that has reared its ugly head, but we haven’t figured it out how to do it yet! When we do, we’ll let you know! Condolences to Oz!

  4. Keith Olbermann #125: Although as a foreigner I can’t grasp the sentiments around your flag, I do salute all those who will not stand for Drumpf. Kudos to all of you. 04

Rachel Maddow: America and North Korea have been bellicose towards each other as long as people can remember, with the Kim dynasty in its third generation, but until now there have always been American presidents who played a risky game but knew when to stop. Who put the safety of their own people, and I’d like to think of the world, before their own hurt egos. It took some of them longer than others, but it never has been as unpredictable as with Drumpf behind the wheel. He’s not fit to ride a bicycle with training wheels, let alone a car. He’s the most unpredictable factor in the equation and the more the Mueller investigation is homing in on him, the more irrational and dangerous that man becomes. We have a saying “a cat in peril makes awkward jumps” and this fat cat has never jumped straight in his life… Get him away from that button. 13

UpWorthy: Oh yes, Down Under is familiar with Republicans too, and they’re the reason Aussies are now having a nonbinding postal “plebiscite” to determine whether the majority of them wants to legalize same-sex marriage, spending more than 100 million Aussie dollars on something that is already long known. Polls have long shown that up to 70% of Aussies are for same-sex marriage, especially among the young who can’t vote yet. But this waste of money is only the first step; if the majority votes yes, then the government will then bring it to an open vote, i.e. not based on party point of view.
This discussion has been going on for months now and the Republicans in the governments have used the opportunity to take their campaign well beyond the simple question of same-sex marriage: yes or no? They’ve gone Republican and gone after the whole LGBTQ community. And Bernardi is known for his very Republican standpoints, and now also for his stupidity for jumping the gun on a matter which had absolutely nothing to do with his anti-marriage, read LGBTQ, campaign. The Aussies gave him his comeuppance, Aussie style, with lots of humor and by bringing the donations for girls education (in Africa, I believe) up to $225,000, far above their target of $900. 28
The Aussie now have a month from September 25th to return their vote on same-sex marriage.

Cartoon: I don’t think the Cambodians needed American weapons to kill each other. But I bet Drumpf would like to use some of Pol Pot’s tactics to keep the opposition down.

  5. Puzzle — 4:11 Damn, that heat slowed me down!

YouTube — I totally agree with Keith.  PM Trudeau was asked about the fracas between Drumpf and the pro athletes who are protesting police violence against African Americans, and the even bigger resulting issue of protesting in general as Keith outlined.  As Trudeau said, in Canada we have the Charter of Rights and Freedoms which allows freedom of expression.  I know the US 1st amendment does the same.  It is apparent that Drumpf’s rhetoric is the source of much talk in various countries and he is looking like the jackass he is.  Unfortunately, the US is being laughed at because of Drumpf.

TRMS — And this is how Drumpf makes America safe . . . trading insults and provocations with another narcissist who just happens to also have a hair trigger finger on a nuclear bomb???  This is very frightening and it affects every country on the planet.

Upworthy — As Jackie Gleason would say, “How sweet it is!”.  Bernardi on the rocks!

Cartoon — I remember seeing a similar picture when Obama was on a trip to Africa.  It reminded me so much of the killing fields in Cambodia.  Truly sad what man is willing to do to his fellows.

BTW, I heard that Judge Roy Moore won the Republican primary in Alabama to replace the senate seat vacated by the elf, Sessions.  He beat Luther Strange who was appointed by former Governor Bentley in Feb 2017 to represent Alabama as its junior senator when Sessions became the AG.  Drumpf backed Strange and now all his tweets about Strange have been deleted.  I guess Drumpf does not looking like he lost!

    Resist, Persist and Remove!!!

  6. Thanks all!  Hugs! 28
