I have another busy day.  My interface with my banks via Quicken is not working properly.  I have hated that program for years.  Is anyone using a good Quicken alternative for PC?

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:03 (average 4:57).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

I didn’t see it, but I hear it was ugly.

Short Takes:

From YouTube (Funny or Die Channel): Republican Tax Plan: Who Gets The Money?

The writers sure understand Republican tax policy, but they made one major mistake.  Because they had the idea, we can expect to see overpriced Trump Vodka on the shelves, as soon as Chinese factories can mass produce it. RESIST!!

From US Magazine: As previously reported, McCain, 81, was diagnosed with cancer during the summer. "Sen. John McCain underwent a procedure to remove a blood clot from above his left eye at Mayo Clinic Hospital in Phoenix," a statement from his family and the Mayo Clinic read on July 14. "Subsequent tissue pathology revealed that a primary brain tumor known as a glioblastoma was associated with the blood clot."

The Arizona senator underwent surgery in July for the brain tumor and has completed his first round of chemotherapy treatment. He told CBS that he asked doctors to "tell it to me straight" when they updated him on his condition.

"As you know, doctors are interesting," he said on 60 Minutes. "Some say 3 percent, some say 14 percent. You know it’s — it’s a very poor prognosis. So I just said, ‘I understand. Now we’re going to do what we can, get the best doctors we can find and do the best we can, and at the same time celebrate with gratitude a life well lived.’"

I think the time has come to retire the nickname, McConJob, which I gave McCain, at the time he abandoned most of his ethical principles, as required to win the Republican nomination for President. Thank you, Senator McCain, for refusing to goose-step with the Reich and opposing RepubliCare. Thoughts and prayers to you and yours. RESIST!!

From Media Matters: The Associated Press (AP) just published a report that looked at the first few weeks of Media Matters’ Stop Hannity effort and discussed the effect it’s having on Sean Hannity’s advertisers.

In August, Media Matters launched a Stop Hannity advertiser education effort. Hannity isn’t just a partisan talking head with a television show. He’s a full-blown propagandist and has been exposed for actively coordinating with the Trump administration to promote President Donald Trump’s interests, even if that means lying to his own audience. Hannity aggressively promoted the conspiracy theory about the murder of Democratic National Committee staffer Seth Rich — which happened to help deflect attention from a negative storyline about Trump — even after Fox had retracted its own story…

…Media Matters said some dozen advertisers have told the organization they will not purchase commercials in Hannity’s show in the future; some have current contracts and are staying put until those commitments are completed.

That’s a start. Tell Hannity’s advertisers that, as long as they support him, you won’t support them.  For the advertiser list, click here.   RESIST!!

  1. 5:02  What can I say?  I was mesmerized.  Those eyes!

My heart bleeds for your religious agony.  May the Orb shine its holy light on you in the next game!

FoD – I think the “Trump vodka” idea has been around a while.  But since I don’t shop for vodka, I can’t be sure.

US Mag -I’m not sure how much is principle and how much is “F**k you, McTurtle,” but I’ll take it.  I do see courage there.  (Of course, to Republicans, “F**k you” IS a principle, just often misdirected.)

MM – Only a couple of the primaries affect me, and even those should be easy.  I certainly wasn’t about to go pick up an Alfa Romeo this weekend.  The secondaries may be tougher, but I’ll work on it.  Thanks!

Cartoon – Well, except for the Second, which they think is the only one.

I don’t use Quicken or anything like it. I regularly check on all my accounts on line, and do my taxes on line for free. I looked at USAA to see what if anything they recommend, but didn’t find anything. Sorry.

  2. I started using Quicken decades ago just for record-keeping – and pretty much hate it.

For a non-accountant, it’s certainly is NOT very intuitive.

But they have made it so proprietary it’s practically impossible to export the data to any other program that may have fewer bells and whistles.  I think I’m pretty much stuck w/ it.

    • I should add WRT Dotard now trying to reframe his racist name-calling of NFL players as “Sons-of-Bitches” that it was “really truly about the flag”

      • I hope I am not going to steal a short take here (I think probably not, because Scalia’s dead), but HuffPo is majorly pointing out that Scalia was a strong supporter of protest of the flag and through it the government.

“…we have a First Amendment, which says that the right of free speech shall not be abridged ― and it is addressed in particular to speech critical of the government. That was the main kind of speech that tyrants would seek to suppress.”

(He said in 2012)  And HuffPo is calling Scalia “Trump’s Favorite Justice.”

  3. FoD: ugh!

USM: I offer Mr. McCain and his family my prayers, in the coming days I believe he’s on our side. (imho).

MM: I don’t watch faux news, but I’ll look at the list, and get on board. ty!

    Cartoon: What JD said.

Sorry about your guy’s loss, hopefully the next game(s), (for you and I), will be better. Don’t ask me, as I’m not the sharpest tack in the box when it comes to computer literacy, hopefully someone (here) can jump in to help you. sorry. Have a relaxing evening, take care, and Thanks, Tom.

  4. FoD: This one was NOT funny!  Can i kick that putz in the face…now?
US Mag: I don’t wish this disease on anyone.  Well,….  McCain has come out and said that his stand on ACA repeal does NOT have to do with the Rumpy “Captured” insult, but he also said that Rumpy has yet to apologize.    However, if he waits around for that, he might live many more years.  Rump does not apologize, has no decency; probably cold not spell the word.
MM: Hannity is just a cleaner version of Rush Limbacrap, as far as I can tell.

  5. Puzzle — 3:37  I know you won’t eat your beautiful cousin so I’ll not worry.

Religious Agony — Well it seems that your horsies were buffaloed, or in other words, were caught in a buffalo stampede!

Funny or Die — There are 2 truths here. 1) The Republican tax reform will only benefit the very rich; and 2) Chloë is a cute kid.

US Magazine — McTurtle must be absolutely livid that McCain has said he’ll vote ‘no’ on the Graham-Cassidy healthcare bill.  Add likely ‘no’ votes from Murkowski, Collins, Paul and Cruz (ain’t that one a kick in the teeth!) to McCain’s no vote and the Graham-Cassidy bill will be dead, for now. After 01 October, the rules change and getting enough votes will be nigh on impossible.  I hear a tweet storm coming!  To me, it is unconscionable that McTurtle is calling for a vote when lawmakers have incomplete information ie CBO scoring not done.

Media Matters — Hannity is definitely a propagandist and should be cut loose from Faux Noise.  Perhaps when advertisers feel the pain, Faux will do something about its Hannity problem.  It worked with Limbaugh!

Cartoon —  228 years of precedence isn’t good enough for Republicans?

    Resist, Persist and Remove!!!

  6. FOD: Hit the GOP tax plan right on the nose. Of course the Drumpf family, like all the other corporate Mafioso, do not have to push their own button to get their money stolen for them from the other 90%; they get their buttons pressed for them by Congress. As we saw earlier here, the real rulers of the land have made it very clear that the GOP needs to get Trumpcare and the Tax (Reform) bill passed soon or they soon won’t have any buttons left to push.

USM: I can see this only from afar and do not have any emotional attachments to McCain, so I’m not so sure about that “life well lived”; not if it was at the expense of others until very recently. Finding a conscience, at the ripe old age of 81 when your looking death in the eye, after a lifetime of goosestepping and abandoning any ethical principles when de GOP or a presidential candidacy “demanded” it, doesn’t impress me that much. I’m however grateful on behalf of the American people that McCain’s illness brought him new insight and that he has redeemed himself by voting, and continuing to vote, against Trumpcare. Whatever his reasons are to do that, you can be thankful McCain dares to step out of line now, when in counts most.

MM: My goodness, that’s a very impressive list. No wonder Faux News and Hannity are doing so well. Time to boycott. Or will that be made illegal too by Drumpf/Congress like supporting the Palestinian BDS movement against Israel?

Sorry about your religious agony, TomCat. In Holland each bank provides its own interfaces for PC, tablet or telephone, so I can’t help you there.

  7. RA: Ugh. Better luck next time. Then again, the last team to go undefeated in the regular season lost the Super Bowl.
FoD: I frequently get the idea that a lot of right-wingers define a Communist as anybody who is even a centimeter to the left of Reagan. When the rich get richer at the expense of the REAL lifeblood of business – the working class – that makes Communism look not so bad.
US: I confess to voting for McCain in 2008 – at least I voted for Obama in 2012. Now I don’t feel so bad.
MM: The only ones on the list that I use are Angie’s List – which I do not trust as much as I used to – and Hewlett Packard. I am considering dropping off the former, but right now I’m stuck with the latter unless I can find compatible generic ink cartridges. At least I don’t do that much printing. I’ve been avoiding Exxon like Chernobyl for years, for a variety of reasons.
Cartoon: I’m right with you, Pat B. That is probably the most misunderstood amendment of them all.

  8. Thanks all.  And thanks for trying to help with Quacken. (Typo intentional) Hugs! 13
