Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:26 (average 4:59).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From The New Yorker: In what some security experts fear could be a high-stakes war of Elton John lyrics, minutes after Donald Trump called Kim Jong Un “Rocket Man,” the North Korean dictator responded by calling Trump “Honky Cat.”

As he issued the Elton John-based attack, Kim warned that he had an extensive collection of the singer-songwriter’s albums and was prepared to weaponize every lyric in them.

Dang Andy! Nuke the SOB! Testing nuclear weapons is bad enough, but comparing Putin’s Pervert to a CAT is an intolerable act of war! RESIST!!

From Daily Kos:

Sweet merciful everything. GOP Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, who represents a traditionally Republican seat in Southern California that swung sharply against Donald Trump last year, has always been a nutcase, but now he’s taken his loony toons act to grand new heights:

Rohrabacher isn’t buying that conspiracy theory, but he’s deep into another—that Democrats were behind last month’s white nationalist riots in Charlottesville, Va. Oh, and calling them white nationalist riots is a liberal media deceit, he said.

"It’s all baloney," Rohrabacher said.

Under Rohrabacher’s scenario, a former "Hillary and Bernie supporter" got Civil War re-enactors to gather under the guise of protecting a Robert E. Lee statue there.

"It was a setup for these dumb Civil War re-enactors," Rohrabacher said. "It was left-wingers who were manipulating them in order to have this confrontation" and to "put our president on the spot."

No wonder Unterreichsfuhrer Rohrabacher is Putin’s favorite. RESIST!!

From NY Times: Senate Republicans, abandoning a key fiscal doctrine, agreed on Tuesday to move forward on a budget that would add to the federal deficit in order to pave the way for a $1.5 trillion tax cut over the next 10 years.

The Republican lawmakers, under mounting pressure to score a legislative win on taxes, say a tax cut of this magnitude will stimulate economic growth enough to offset any deficit impact.

How many times have we heard that lie before? They aren’t telling us that the taxes paid by billionaires will plummet, but a Republican tax cut will mean YOU and I pay more in taxes. RESIST!!

  1. 4:13  So twisted – couldn’t be a Republican, could it?

TNY – Oh, my, this is scary.  Hurricane season is no time to be threatening with “Candle in the Wind.”

DKos – With any luck he’ll be indicted.  Mucho, mucho robles there.

NYT – Tax cuts never stimulate economic growth, at least not by any same measure.  Heaven help us all.

Cartoon – Yes.  And that’s for poor Republicans.  You can’t even see the Democrats in this picture, they are so far under.

    • Actually, tax cuts could stimulate economic growth, if they were targeted to the poor and middle classes, who would spend the money on goods and services, not targeted to $billionaires, who will invest it in China. 05

      • Yeah, I probably should have specified Republican tax cuts.  But at this point, the poor and the middle class are carrying so much of the burden that tax cuts for us would cripple the government without increasing taxes on the rich.  And that doesn’t help the economy.

  2. Love the cartoon. Probably because the lifeguard is a Libertarian: “Help yourself, schmuck!”

  3. NYer: LOL, Andy!

DK: Good Gawd. Is there something he’s on?? How ridiculous!

NYT: Gonna get worse. But! Isn’t it already??

    Cartoon: Word.

Best to you, as you go to your appointment, & to and from tomorrow. Enjoy your evening, take care, and tell Wendy HI !!. Take good care, and Thanks, Tom.

  4. NYorker; You tell him, TC!
DK: Wait, is the House a secret rehab for delusional bozos?
NYT: Trickle down is so busted!  This is welfare for the rich.
‘toon: Oh, maybe that’s climate change denier Rick Scott, trying to point out where Miami used to be…well it still is but….

  5. Puzzle — 4:15  I agree with JD — so twisted that it must be a Republican.

The New Yorker — LMAO!!  We should be so lucky that this only be a war of Elton John lyrics!

Daily Kos — Rohrabacher should go back to his swamp, the silly toad.  He’s been smoking too much of that wacky tabacky!

NY Times — “The Republican lawmakers, under mounting pressure to score a legislative win on taxes, say a tax cut of this magnitude will stimulate economic growth enough to offset any deficit impact.” — No it won’t!  The only things that a large tax will stimulate are 1) the wallets of the wealthy; and 2) the desire of the middle and working classes, and the poor to choke the living shit out of all Republicans.

Cartoon — What do you call 100 Republicans at the bottom of the sea? (See below)

    Resist, Persist and Remove!!!

Answer (Highlight to reveal answer) A damn fine start!

  6. TNY: What a perfect way to show how childish Drumpf and Kim Jong-Un really are and how extremely dangerous it is when world power is left in the hands of mad man-children.

DK: As long as  Rohrabacher’s is one of the 7 Californian seats CNN twittered about he can’t spout enough madness. Any BS will do, as long as it guarantees that his seat will be blue in the next election. In the meantime just point out his BS and the fact that he speaks for many Republicans.

NYT: To stay in line with earlier comments: God help us all. Because if the American economy falters, which surely it will, ours will falter too. So much for globalization. And Americans should know better, because many countries in the EU have learned by now that austerity, trickle down economics and tax-cuts for the rich do not work and their governments are now stimulating wage increases again to get the real economy, i.e. not the stock market economy that only the rich have access to, going again.

Cartoon: picture taken after Harvey, Irma, Maria… passed

Hope you and George enjoy a day out tomorrow, TomCat 22
